This quest is truly excellent, and I was feeling inspired so I decided to write this today. Had to speed it up a little at the end because I saw the timer counting down, and of course this is all speculative on the character and person of Yusuf and what the crews building the Super MARVs might be like. I basically just took the notes on what Super MARVs look like, that Yusuf was notably aggressive in his patrols against Nod, the descriptor of the favelas and such, that Nod was apparently encroaching ever further, and...slapped this up. Uh, Saladin the elderly Muslim chief engineer of Super MARV building teams just came out of nowhere, probably from the recent Mecca talk sticking in my brain, but...yeah. Figured I'd make Yusuf an older veteran former zone trooper turned ZOCOM commander with some major anti-Nod grudges. Tried to avoid going too in depth on the Nod stealth artillery, and stayed away from doing anything that might determine actual status of the South American Nod commander, as that's pure GM stuff to decide. And rolls, I suppose.

Anyway, @Ithillid I may not be good at crunchy numbers and plans, but I still enjoy the content that you write. Thanks for doing so on such a consistent basis, in both quality and timing.
 
At the moment, no. Even woven nanotubes just don't have the strength as I understand it. If you roll some of the exotic options, there might be things stronger than that.
Wouldn't the reactionless drives potentially be able to take some of the strain? From my very cursory understanding, the material requirements come in large part from the cable needing to bear it's own weight under tension. If we can afford to have some reactionless drives running constantly (and with fusion becoming more and more viable that doesn't seem like a huge problem) we could reduce the pull of gravity. The drives are volumetric, but if the drive field can be contoured around a relatively narrow cylinder it probably would be feasible. Naturally, our drive tech needs to mature- but it does seem to possibly offer an answer outside of future tech rolls.
 
One of the other known issues of space elevators is that it is a large, vulnerable target that is completely stationary. Assuming the materials for the tether are possible and supplemented by whatever means necessary, there's almost no way to protect the entire length. It will be vulnerable to terrorism, ASAT weaponry, conventional weaponry, and other Tiberium induced issues like ion storms.

Any attempt to armour or shield it would add massive amounts of weight to the tether to cover the entire length. Plus it's long size means it is difficult to fully protect by active assets.

energy shields maybe , not sure if they exist Tiberium command and conquer setting but I think the Scirn have them also it might be possible for us to tap into the tech trees of the other command and conquer settings so if something like the iron curtain from red alert is on the table then problem solved

Adding shield generators along the entire length is adding weight to the elevator. Not to mentioning powering the generators which requires running a power cable along the elevator, which also increases the weight and stress on the entire elevator. Scrin shields are also vulnerable to EMP, which is easy enough to do. (Iron curtain doesn't last long and doesn't cover a lot of material. But I doubt that exists here otherwise GDI would have Chonosphere'd Kane and Tiberium out of existence already.)

The best bet is to somehow mimic Scrin's Threshold Tower 19's permanently phased state, but that the Scrin didn't regularly build buildings or use units that could hold a phased state for long periods of time tells you how unlikely it is for GDI to pull off anytime soon.

Theoretically, the Space Elevator is the exact sort of installation you could use Firestorm barriers on- but that still increases the cost and difficulty of making it, so the point stands that it's probably not worth doing. Combine that with our reactionless drives being capable of achieving escape velocities on Mars and Luna and it's probably not worth it on those bodies either.

If Venus got hit by Tiberium like a few people have speculated, it might be worth building space elevators/aerostat refineries and shipping points- but .5gs of acceleration will get you a lot of places in the Solar System and no where but Earth is presently planned to be sending a lot of material into space.
