I can't say I was expecting this, but I really should have. I thought Atlantis would've been far more likely. I'm guessing Skywatch let us find this?

Yeah we're finding out now because Skywatch completed this turn, they've presumably been out there just undetected since the first turn of the game, and if we'd done Skywatch 10 turns ago we would have found out then.

Atlantis is hardly ruled out either, of course, we can have both Atlantis and unwanted Visitors in the outer system.

@Ithillid now that we have massively expanded the green zones and build several phases of fortress towns to hold said newly conquered yellow zone turned green clay thus pushing the frontlines further , the old fortress towns who are no longer at risk of attack due to the frontlines and the borders moving could be repurposed since their main function of being frontier forts is sort of defunct , so could we have an action to upgrade them to proper towns ( they would still have some defenses of course) like have all the now unnecessary weapons , depots and garrisons reallocated to the newly build fortress towns were they can be of better use , use the newly freed up space and the safety brought about by the border moving to expand the towns with new service amenities and housing while also refurbishing the existing housing to remove their low quality modifier

So, this is a draft I'd been tinkering with idly. As far as I'm concerned, the revelation of the Visitors still being active around Jupiter doesn't change much right now. We still need space infrastructure to take the fight to them, and we can't actually build a proper space fleet immediately without that infrastructure.

It may change our goals for space in the Fourth Four Year Plan, but that's a question for reapportionment.

The only thing I want to emphasize is that we need the science from the Bogatyr now more than ever. A Nod hover-battleship isn't necessarily going to be directly convertible into a space warship, but it's going to have a lot of features in common that we should be thinking about when we build a space warship.

The Big Project I want to accomplish as this turn is... Chicago Planned City Phase 4. This helps us achieve our refining cap increase goal, gets us some more Capital Goods, and puts us significantly closer to figuring out how to get the combo "red zone offensives, super glacier mines, industrial mega-complexes to really process all that tiberium" going in a big virtuous cycle of logistical swole-ness. I'm gonna try to complete Chicago Phase 4 in one turn, to minimize the impact on our Heavy Industry dice. The problem is that BZ-18 still needs relief because the shuttles didn't complete under the winning plan, and we still need to finish the fusion reactors, likewise.

Aside from that, this draft just keeps generally progressing towards Plan goals.

The Watchers in the Dark
The Overseer was obviously impatient and it had no qualms about letting its inferior know this. The negative energy coming off it made the Observer pause for a few moments considering their words.

"Observer", the Overseer growled. "You are late, Overmind demands an update on Earth."

"I came as soon as I got word of your summoning." they replied cordially to no avail.

The Overseer circled around the lesser Scrin, evidently not really paying attention. "Overmind would have you neutralized for the delay. Be glad you report to me and I to it. Our great leader has been....irate...ever since the Hub Council vetoed the Invasion of Earth. The end of the cycle is too close. They do not want to risk drawing the attention of the Catalyst."

"A wise decision."

Overseer scoffed at the notion, but did not elaborate. Only Overmind was allowed to show opposition to the Council's decision. A lesser Scrin would be faced with incarceration or worse, neutralization. "Now, make your report."

"Yes Overseer." They began, transmitting the analyzed data it had collected over the last cycles to its superior. "The humans appear to have largely recovered from the damage inflicted by the extraction operation and have begun to reclaim the surface from the Ichor fields despite the accelerated replication speed. To note is the deployment of a primitive inhibitor network in orbit, significantly reducing the speed."

"What's the state of the subsurface spread?" Overseer interrupted its subordinate.

"At current timescales barring an outside intervention, projections show Earth will be inhabitable in a few hundred cycles at latest. The subsurface veins will sooner or later reach the mantle causing eruptions of molten Tiberium to occur between the tectonic plates."

"Overlord won't like this." The Overseer responded, a tint of fear mixing into its voice.

"However, the humans have begun to industrialize their orbit and build primitive settlements on Earth's moon. Projections say it is likely they will survive their planet reaching Ichor spread stage 4."

"This is good news. Overlord will have their revenge after all."

The Observer nodded before adding. "There is no source of Achlys in their immediate vicinity. They will not reach the technological threshold necessary to be harvested."

"Our leader will be pleased by this." The Overseer paused, briefly looking at the datastreams provided by the Observer, its attention drawn to the recordings of a certain humanoid. "Any intel on Kane and the Matrix."

"None, my Overseer. Kane evades my data gathering methods."

Suddenly the Observer could feel the harsh digits of its superior on their form. "You displease me Observer. What is your defense for this failure?"

Observers' thoughts raced. "I am limited to passive data collection, Overseer. I sent in a request for on site infiltration units cycles ago but never got a reply."

The Overseer paused, examining the lower Scrin before letting go. "Send the request again. I will contact the Formers about preparing human infiltration units and Overlord and Hub about their deployment, but chances are the order will be withheld until the harvest has passed."

"I am most grateful for your understanding."

"Your efforts have been noted, Observer."

"But there is something else. I don't know how long our outer-system presence can remain undiscovered with the humans' expansion into the wider solar system."

"A problem I will bring up in my meeting with Overlord and Hub. You are dismissed."

Skywatch is completed.

Though you never know, even low level Scrintech can be pretty transformational. Like "a sensor what lets you detect all tiberium deposits within ten kilometers in any direction, including straight down."

The thing is, fusion rockets can reposition quickly within the limits of their deltaV. At least, they're capable of multi-gee burns where our native G-drive might reach .8 gees in the next generation.
The thing is, what's the limit on our fusion rockets' delta-V?

The fusion rockets will win a drag race against an Earthtech gravitic ship. But they won't win a marathon. Given time to build up momentum in the same direction, the gravitic ship will eventually overtake them. So the question becomes, at what distance does this become an issue? I'd need a benchmark figure for the delta-V budget of our fusion rockets to really answer that question.

The idea I had was that we'd equalize the tech difference by specializing our ships. The fusion moniters would trade endurance for firepower, survivability and maneuverability, while the G-tugs would provide living space, supplies and deltaV for farther missions.

Carrier and fighter, basically, except inverted sizes.
Again, the big problem is what happens if this fleet is attacked en route, because presumably the fusion monitors will be able to defend themselves while the gravitic tugs will struggle to do so.

I'm pretty sure that to some extent that already happens below our level of resolution. For instance, we built a whole lot of fortified perimeter outposts on the borders of the Blue Zones back in the early 2050s, and those were explicitly designed to be relocated. Presumably, they have been, probably more than once, since they're still contributing Yellow Zone mitigation.

Also, in some cases, the new weapons don't really want to be moved, so to speak. For instance, we repurposed 152mm smoothbore tank guns into artillery guns in the early 2050s as railguns supplanted them on the Predator tanks. Those are the guns that got put into place on our first waves of fortress town construction... but they're not great guns, they're not very accurate at long range, and the new artillery pieces we came up with to replace them are better. So transferring the old first-generation artillery batteries to the new fortress towns wouldn't be doing them many favors.

A project to upgrade housing quality in the former fortress towns that are now a few hundred kilometers behind the front lines wouldn't go amiss, but it's likely to pop up later this year or in 2062 as the result of re-evaluation of some priorities.

So, we got whatever Lore is at 10*, 36 which is unknown, and 62 bumps up to 65, Since we already got Force Fields (62), Plasma Disruptors (63), and Harvesting Tendrils (64)

*Presumably a lore result, most of what we know around there is.

That was Threadmarked, not put in sidestories, which implies it's very much Canon? Unless it was done by accident?

Well we're still working on the nat 100 tech, which was portals.
We're gonna be working on that one at low speed for the next fifty years or more.

I devoutly hope we don't have to wait until then to develop more Visitor tech.

EDIT:

@BOTcommander , you had the Observer report that after liquid tiberium hits lava and starts going 'kaboom' on a planetary scale in "a few hundred cycles," the Earth will be "inhabitable."

Was that a typo, or is that the Visitor definition of "inhabitable?" With them, I'm never sure... :p

Why not finish the processing refit? It will only give 50 processing capacity for 200 progress but I think it gave STUs. Especially as the next upgrade to the process is on the horizon.

So for Scrin tech 36, 65 (we have 62 to 64 so bumped up to 65) and 10. Takes us to 20 out of 100 possible techs, though it will be nice to refresh the pool even if it is going to be a major commitment to get ready and then fight the Scrin

And tib is being shrunk! Always a good thing
