As An Eagle Flies (A House Arryn Quest)

Plan: Divide et Impera

[X]Yes
[X]Write in: Propose to combine two of the given strategies, first landing a detachment of Light and Heavy Cavalry numbering 5-8 thousand men with support of a Skirmish force of 1-2 thousand near Tyrosh to raid and cause havoc in general, should a response army be send by the enemy attempt to draw them to our landing zone where hopefully the rest of our army will have joined us, if not engage in guerilla tactics by laying traps with our skirmishers and cavalry to inflict as many loses as possible.

While that's going on have the fleet drop of the remaining forces on Bloodstone to secure a base for our fleet.
-If possible have one or two squadrons of our fastest ships harass the enemies ships and draw them away in another direction.

Lastly ask if it's possible to have our spies in the enemy camp attempt to sabotage their supplies, perhaps utilising poison on the officers of their armies.

[X]Train with Ser Gerold: The Lord Commander is so close to allowing you to fight on your own or with the other boys if a battle were to come.

[X]Spend time with Uncle Yohn: You always wanted to hear the stories about the rune blade and rune armor that his family claim to craft.
We've never been given the option to do a write-in before, why would that change now?

[X] Plan Sea-legs and Security

Cavalry does not pose a threat to a fortress city, especially when this city has a massive harbour where most if not all of their food comes from. There is no indication that the city is surrounded by fertile fields or anything like that. The surroundings are described a bleak and stony. Nothing worth threatening or worth defending for Tyrosh. They can simply bunker down in their massive fortress city and use their fleet to cut of our own supplies, stranding one force and robbing us of one of our big advantages in the war, superior cavalry.

You want to lay ambushes on an island we do know nearly nothing about. Which side has a higher chance of pulling something like that off the local one or the foreigners? It is always the locals and never the foreigners. Our side would need to scout for good locations, that are with absolute certainty already known to the locals. Something like that can be done if both sides have little knowledge about the surrounding, but it is near impossible to pull of if a clear discrepancy on the information side exists. We do not know the landscape of the Isle of Tyrosh, they do.

...please tell me you are not serious. Skirmishers are not ninjas or spies. They are lightly armoured troops with weapons like bows, spears, cross bows or slings. They are not naturally skilled at infiltration and using them on masse for something like that would not work. Once more Tyrosh is a fortress city, that is supplied through its harbour. They do not need to open their gates and Westerosi infiltrators would stick out like a sore thumb. Skirmisher are mostly common folk and do not speak the bastard valyrian tongue that is spoken in Tyrosh. Their people are known as being extremely flamboyant, dyeing their hair purple, green or some other strange colour. Our enemies are not idiots and going after the supplies is one of the most common tactics ever. These places are always extremely guarded and protected. You cannot just walk up and burn them down.
Poisoning the officers or higher rank would once more need an infiltration to work against obvious guards, language barrier, passwords and other measure put up against such attempts. Then they need to enter one of the most secured places of the whole enemy camp and find the supplies that will end up in front of the officers. For that to work we would need more than a miracle.

Ok so, from where I'm coming from is that as far as I know the island Tyrosh is on has a land connection to the main land directly into the Disputed Lands where the water was shallow enough to be used for land travel, I dont remember where I got that from but its atleast what I assumed.

The idea here was to have a ready Cavalry force close enough to Tyrosh to make any move they want to make from the island into the Disputed Lands harder considering we would be raiding anything of theirs we came across.

The plan for the skirmishers is not to be ninjas so that's not what I meant at all, but to be a sizeable enough infantry force that can fight on land from both close and ranged quarters but are also quick enough on their feet to quickly retreat when necessary. I did not mean that we would have hundreds of them sneak into the city but a handful, enough atleast that we could use at the very least do something with.

The reason why I don't think it's a good idea to have our Cavalry land in the Disputed Lands is because Lys and Myr both have holdings there that we shouldn't mess with since they are truly the only other cities who would probably accept a deal to ally with us against Tyrosh.

Since we don't have enough ships yet to be a real threat to the city directly, we should atleast block any in-land route they could use.

I'm more then willing to rework the plan into something more doable of course since I do admit I didn't spend more then 5minutes on it and I can see where it falls short. Only things I do find important that I wouldn't change my mind on is training with Gerold and meeting Yohn.

I will say this. THe more thought out the plan is, the more likely it will succeed in convincing the other commanders.

death flag why do i see a death flag i so dislike seeing death flags.

[x]Spend time with Your Father: your father and you haven't talked in years… it would be nice to change that.
[x]Spend time with the Graftons: Perhaps Marq will be interesting to be with… if you can keep up with his acrobatics.

[X] Plan Base
-[X]Yes
-[X]Secure a Base on Bloodstone: Lord Baratheon said that the fleet would need a base, not on Westeros, so why not choose the closest island to the Broken Arm, to Spotswood.
-[X]Train with Ser Gerold: The Lord Commander is so close to allowing you to fight on your own or with the other boys if a battle were to come.
-[X]Spend time with Your Father: your father and you haven't talked in years… it would be nice to change that.

So, here we go.

[X]Plan: Divide et Impera v2.0

[X]Yes
[X]Write in: Propose a tri-pronged approach to divide the enemies attention by landing a mainly Cavalry force with Skirmish support in the Disputed Lands as close to Tyrosh as possible without entering into range or sight of their ships, this force shall be tasked to seek any and all targets they can logically attack who belong to Tyrosh and the 12's, supply caravans, holdings, traders, etc.
-Should Tyrosh or the 12 send a response force to target them they are advised to go into a fighting retreat and use as many traps and ambushes they can to grind down the enemy army until reinforcements arrive.
-Further they are specifically ordered not to attack anything belonging to Lys or Myr unless these cities enter into hostilities with the Iron Throne.
-Should there be an opportunity have a selected handful of the more sneakier skirmishers attempt to infiltrate Tyrosh even posing as Mercenaries if need be to attempt to cause havoc in the city and try and stir up the local slave population as a distraction so they can open the gates for our Cavalry to rush in and burn down and kill as many as they can before retreating. (This point is entirely dependent on the Royal armies commanders and merely a after thought added as an after thought)

2.In the Sea, select one or two groups of our fastest ships with experienced men to attempt to harass enemy supply lines or their fleet in an attempt to draw away enemy ships into open water and away from the Royal fleet.
-While this is going on have our ships drop of the rest or enough of our troops on Bloodstone to conquer the island and begin to set up a base for our own Fleet. If things go well and we've secured the island leave enough men to garrison it and send the Army to regroup with our Cavalry either in Tyrosh itself or the disputed Lands to target the enemies city and cut of their supplies and base entirely and deny them a secure port for their fleet.
-Should the Cavalry group get into a difficult spot before we are able to send reinforcements have ships at the ready to pick them up and bring them back to Bloodstone to regroup and await reinforcements from Westeros.

3.Ask the commanders if it's a viable option to have our agents within the enemies camp attempt to try their hands at sabotage and assassination to cause problems in the enemies command structure, target officers, sergeants and the generals themselves if possible.
-Ask also if it's not a good idea to approach Myr, Lys or both about an alliance against Tyrosh. Of all Free Cities these two are the most likely to accept a proposition due to their long time rivalry with each other, should they accept guarantee them a share of the spoils or the land of Tyrosh since we have no interest in it.

I'm mildly interested in why we aren't exploring our clearly magical heritage. A few voting options have had this but we've ignored it.

House Royce, our Mother's house, were the previous rulers of the Vale and as such are a very old First Men family. It's logical to assume there might be some Greensight or Skinchanging or such in our blood.

Just a thought.

I did not forget about us having said blood in our veins...

No matter how many times I may screw up on everyone's names during the writing process. :V

It's why I find the spending time with Yohn option so interesting. We already know Greensight and Warging and what that's like. So I'm more interested in the Royce runes and what we can potentially do with it. I mean imagine...we already stand be atleast as tall as dear ol' Daddy-o. Now pick up a truly massive set of heavy armour and put some runes on it that make the thing wearable and lighter?....Westerosi Space Marines here we come!

True, I could get behind that if giant Falcons where a thing which I ain't sure it is. Maybe warging into Falcons in general is possible but as I think Runes are more useful for us at the moment. After that we could probably try our hands at Greenseeing which would do wonders for information gathering.

Winged Knight

The Winged Knight was a legendary First Man figure of the Vale from the Age of Heroes thousands of years before the coming of the Andals. He is sometimes conflated with Ser Artys Arryn, an Andal who conquered the Vale for House Arryn and was known as the "Falcon Knight".[1]

Do not be asking for things you really don't want to know the answers to.

I care more about building up our general personal skills, deepening our relationship with our father, and just generally getting better at what we have. I feel like 99% of GOT/ASOIAF fics and games chase after either magic or UPTECH, and I'm kind of happy with where we've been going thus far.

Like I said, if you decide that you want giant falcon route, you will not like the answer I give.

At all.
