As An Eagle Flies (A House Arryn Quest)

Part 18: Promises Made.
Part 18: Promises Made.

Diplomacy Training Roll:1D100 => 50+10(Traits)+10(Master linguist)=70

Language Learned: Pentosi

Your continued Study of language has made you an even better linguist, however, not a better diplomat.

Reward: Pentosi learned. One more language away from getting Master linguist Trait.

-[X]Train in Combat: You will learn to master Swordsmanship. Rolled: 1D100 => 61+30=91

Ser Gerold made sure you were going to be a better swordsman than Tywin.

That was not a hard thing to say, but it took months of training to pull of.

Reward: You are now a skilled fighter

-[X]Train in Martial (Command): You will study the masters of old, learn their secrets, their strengths and avoid their weaknesses. Rolled:1D100 => 7+30=37

Unfortunately, Ser Gerold could not train you in the art of Command… something about needing to guard the king on a visit to his brother on the Wall.

Failure

-[X]Train in Administration (Stewardship): You need to be a good lord. And that means being able to handle coin. Rolled:1D100 => 95+10=105

You continued to excel in your studies in administration, enough to where Tywin is starting to make sense.

Reward: You are now a Master Administrator.

-[X]Spend time with Steffon: Steffon the Brave he is being called. He likes it far too much. Rolled: 1D100 => 29+10=39

Steffon was in the practice yard, drilling with Ser Duncan. It was a sight to behold… However, you could not watch for long, as Steffon challenged you to a duel to test your skills.

You lost in less than a heartbeat, as you were tripped and beaten. Badly

Failure: You were humiliated by Steffon in a practice duel.

-[X]Spend time with Aerys: Areys is… devoting himself to his studies... best to see how he is doing. Rolled:1D100 => 39+10=49

Aerys looked like he wanted to tell you something, but when he saw you again, he scampered away like a rat.

Failure.

-[X]Spend time with Rhaella: she is your friend and loves reading… maybe… wait, she wants you to help her find a book? Rolled:1D100 => 100+10=110

Rhaella came to you carrying the book you were going to help her find.

"Oh… you found it." You said with surprise.

"I did." She replied before her face turned scarlet. "Could you come with me Arstan?" She asked.

You shrugged but begrudgingly followed her across the Red keep. Towards the sleeping chambers.

You arrived in her room, where she slept and she sat you down. "My father told me about our Betrothal and I'm very… hesitant."

Hesitant "for what reasons?" You asked. "We both know we are little more than pawns in this game our lives have been subjected to, and we both know we have little choice until we take power for our own." It was a cycle… an endless cycle, one could say.

Raehlla was swaying her hips in a way you never really noticed, and it was… arousing. "Um.." You stated.

"I just want a choice in the whole thing. I don't want to be told to do anything anymore, not without my consent, or at least my knowledge anymore." She said.

"And what does that have to do with me?" You asked.

"I just… want to have control." She said. "Could you stay with me tonight?"

What do you do:
[]Agree with her Wish: "Alright, I'll stay."
[]Do not Agree: "This isn't appropriate Raehlla."
[]Be Bold: *Kiss her* "Whatever happens, we shall have to learn to trust each other."

Huh, wasn't expecting this, though I'll go with option one, option two is for cowards and three has a very high chance of backfiring.
I also propose we check in with Nymeria and Aerys while continuing our martial and diplo education

We are skilled in fighting and leading men in battle. Master at diplomacy and administration. We are pretty good.

Steffon for some reason humiliated us. Aerys wants to say something to us but for some reason didn't. Rhaella wants control of her life and I'm willing to give it.

But tripping us and then beating us on the ground? Didn't even give us some dignity. We are his friend?
He wanted to show off. Hey, he's got an ego that he needs to flex. Cause Ours is the Fury! and there ain't any way we could beat him in a straight-up fight on equal footing. He's nearing Barry the Bold Levels of bullshit skill.
Also question what does another administration action get us?
When we rule the Vale (or any other lands for that matter), we get special actions, like building paved roads, improving the economy in new and exciting ways, along with rooting out corruption.

Yeah we're gonna have to curb that enthusiasm somehow, maybe get Set Duncan to duel another Baratheon?

Just for the record I'm not doubting his skill just the way he went about it. Could of beaten us in a less humiliating way. We are skilled but not Steffon skilled I know. Just the way Steffon went about it. Like what do our friends think of it and us?

Less Shonen Rivalry and more benchmark in skill. Steffon being one of the best fighters in our age group and... well among one of the best up and coming fighters in Westeros at this moment in time. and then there's us. We've got good company, but no one special.

I meant the fight and what our friends think of it along with our thoughts. Steffon basically humiliates a friend for no reason but his ego.

Um... you sure this is okay given the rules Magoose? These are teenagers, not that I'm unhappy about the Rhaella betrothal.

Roll a nat 100 on finding a book with Rhaella, only to have her find it on her own and proposition us instead.

Edit: that better not be a a book that magically reveals how to hatch dragons. That would be a new level of literary Deus Ex Machina.

[]Agree with her Wish: "Alright, I'll stay."

This is terribly improper, we must go to a Sept immediately!
Be Bold: "Well I can think of one thing we can do tonight to take control? Though you'll have to trust me

BE GONE YOU LUSTY HARLOT, WE WILL NOT FALL UNDER THE SWAYING DISEASE RIDDEN HIPS OF A THOT.

They find it a bit needless, but Steffon is also really struggling in other aspects of being a good lord and humbles himself greatly to get better at his job.

He has Stannis' problem of self-doubt and is a poor student, something that he routinely comes to everyone he can to get help so he can master it.

And he's kinda treated kinda crummy by Tywin (who is trying to beat administration skills into him), and he has some self-esteem issues which he only feels better after a good spar.

Already fixing that with something more PG-13. There is nothing farther than a kiss and a reassuring line from us and maybe a cuddle.

That is it.

Um, we're blond, taking after Jon, instead of our mother, who had much darker hair...

Should have remembered to say that.

They find it needless.....Humbles himself by beating a 'friend' in a humiliating way..... Issues doesn't excuse his actions. Kinda surprised our friends aren't more upset about it.

Well, I could write an omake of our friends berating Steffon for his needless actions.

But I've already written three whole updates within a six hour timeframe. You can forgive me If I'm feeling a little bit tired from all the writing and want to rest, and I'm giving the few answers that I can before I fall asleep.
