A Little Vice (Trans Magical Girl fic)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
3. She thinks pokemon weather effects are real. That's a completely different system.
Yeah, Fire vs. Flying is a neutral matchup so that part doesn't matter.

Weirdly, this means Chiro is the only named character with a type advantage over Ida, but I assume Ida packs Rock-type moves for coverage.

...oh my god Chiro actually is a Pokémon, she's evolving into Crobat at high friendship.

You could make an argument that any of the beasts should be Dark-type and Grass-type. They're made of evil plants, after all!

Sucker Punch alone is a pretty weak argument. Lots of non-Dark-type pokemon know that move, including the Grass/Flying Rowlet. So I'm inclined to agree with Tetrikitty here.

The question I want to pose: Is Temperance still Grass-type?

On a slightly more relevant topic, congrats to Shadell and this fic for winning Best Original Work in the 2023 User's Choice Awards. Absolutely earned it.

Vice Sweep!
Maybe Saints are all normal or fairy.
Invidia makes a big deal over flying, as freedom and escape from worries, almost reaching your dreams but it being impossible to reach them, and has that scream and wind association. She's a flying type, absolutely. And everyone agrees. Now, her second type, if she has it. Grass doesn't really count because she does nothing with it except produce sap. The grass is just inside of her, so not grass type. Dark does fit the beasts, and fits how much she hides and produces confusing identities, but that could be a ghost thing too.
And since I'm playing cassette beasts, I'm gonna wanna find types from there too. Dang. They have an air type. Oh, also glass! Could fit the mirror stuff. Seems like it's just a vulnerable type to change opponents into though, and vulnerable to an instakill by accumulating resonance. Only one monster has this type natively, and has the move glass cannon, which seems to describe it well.
Guess Superbia would be glitter? Mental image of him just leaving glitter everywhere he goes, and having dedicated cleaners following him around. And he tries his best to keep his dignity.

I think the best argument for Invidia being grass type is that it's weak to Castitas. Providing a typing that loses in a direct confrontation with fire would be a good way for the seed to perpetuate Chiro's inferiority complex.

Maybe Saints are all normal or fairy.
I'd say Fairy for the saints and Normal for the civilians. (Except C's dad, he's Normal/Dark.) Which makes Castitas Fire/Fairy, Diligentia Ground/Fairy, and Temperantia Water/Fairy.

I'm inclined to agree with Tetrikitty and Tetra's arguments for Invidia being Grass/Flying (or Flying/Grass, I'm not sure what the distinction is). I'm inclined to call Avaritia Steel/Grass, partly because of her claws and partly because she's the only Abyssal Beast we've seen who's remotely effective against the Saints. Superbia is either Dark/Grass or just Dark; either way, he compensates for Dark's type disadvantage against Fairy with a lot of Rare Candy.

Haha, a dark type with light powers. How ironic. Could also see psychic for him, due to the mind control incense, his power to make people submit due to physical and mental pressure. Also poison, since he's mega toxic.

Yeah, and Psychic is one of...well, three Types associated with Light, while notably not having the goodness/justice connotations you get from Fighting and Fairy. Psychic/Poison Evil Team Leader Ace would be pretty lit, honestly.

Grass/Flying (or Flying/Grass, I'm not sure what the distinction is).
Last I checked there's not really one except extremely few pokemon are primary flying type.

Like. Maybe something's changed in the past couple generations while I wasn't looking but the displayed type order doesn't actually matter for type interactions etc, yet nevertheless flying type traditionally is near exclusively a secondary type.

Thank you so much everyone! I'm so humbled and grateful for the reception this story has gotten and it's so amazing to have won.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Edit: Chiro's moveset is probably something like copycat/sucker punch/supersonic/brave bird which suggests something like dark/flying or normal/flying a normal/flying with a physical focus and some plant themes kinda suggests that she's probably just basically a farfetch'd.

As a trainer, her team would probably look something like crobat/swoobat/gliscor/noibat/ditto. Not sure on the sixth.

(or Flying/Grass, I'm not sure what the distinction is)

As we understand it, the first type is usually the primary one, while the latter is secondary, and has fewer effects on the Pokemon's general biology and capabilities. So a Flying/[any type] would be more likely to resemble a wind elemental than anything else, while [any type]/Flying covers the vast majority of Pokemon that have wings - a lesser affinity for air than just being made out of it.

This would then indicate Invidia as Grass/Flying under your paradigm, on account of not being physically composed of air to any degree more than any other living creature is.

*Sigh* you're all bastards.

Also Chiro is clearly the rival. A weird one who gets the weak starter and joins Team Abyssal, but still.

PkMn Trainer Chiro / Abyssal Admin Invidia (Victory Road)

Swoobat (Psychic/Flying, Unaware)
Air Slash
Assurance
Psychic Fangs
Nasty Plot

Rival Invidia's speedy lead and special attacker. Not optimized by any means, but if you let her set up, she's going to obliterate you with +4 Air Slashes.

Crobat (Poison/Flying, Inner Focus)
Cross Poison
Venoshock
Air Cutter
Toxic

Yeah she's got the two basic bats what do you expect. While Swoobat can sweep your team, Crobat's just here to cause problems on purpose and be a really on the nose metaphor for toxic self-talk.

Mimikyu (Ghost/Fairy, Disguise)
Mimic
Copycat
Shadow Claw
Curse

The embodiment of Invidia's mimic powers and also probably the thing that gave the most trouble in earlier battles, being a surprisingly good tank (unless you know how Disguise works then she'll basically defeat herself). In Postgame battles she swaps Curse for Play Rough and becomes even more of a nightmare.

Zoroark (Dark, Illusion)
Taunt
Copycat
Sucker Punch
Night Daze

I'm gonna be real I just gave this one thematic moves. Two of them egg moves, even. Haha, egg moves. Still an annoying technical fighter.

Sylveon (Fairy, Cute Charm)
Disarming Voice
Draining Kiss
Light Screen
Alluring Voice

Abyssal Boss Superbia hates this one. He only tolerates it because for some reason she's the one with vampire- and sonic-themed moves. And a weird glitch where Cute Charm's gender effect is reversed. Weird that. Also tended to lead with this one in earlier Double Battles with Admin Avaritia so they could do that annoying double screens bullshit.

Decidueye (Grass/Ghost, Overgrow) [Starter]
Spirit Shackle
Leaf Blade
Sucker Punch
Brave Bird

Gamefreak cheated and gave her Brave Bird about ten levels early, but the poor, maligned starter is back for revenge. No, not in the buffed Hisuian format. She's still a ghost/ambush attacker. Just gives her more to prove, especially against that stupid gorgeous Delphox the other trainer got.

Alright, alright, maybe not quite as balanced as a normal rival team, but I think it works. Notable weaknesses to Fire and Steel, which sounds about right.

Early on she simply has to have a Togepi that never evolves and disappears entirely in the endgame.

I debated on a Togepi-Togetic-Togekiss metaphor arc here but 1) Togekiss has the same battle niche as Swoobat as a high-speed flying flinch machine and 2) Sylveon is a funnier "this Pokémon is just trans" in my opinion.

Consider: Rival C's got a *non-battling* Togepi. Togepi used to be her mom's, she and C bonded over being abandoned by her and mistreated by the dad, etc. So now there's just a Togepi following Chiro around, serving as a cheerleader, and being weirdly insistent on recommending feminine clothes to C. C's positive that Togepi doesn't understand how human genders work; Togepi, meanwhile, would have a lot to fill C in on if only Togepi could speak Human.

Can't believe nobody suggested the Dragon type for Superbia, it's in his name after all.

Still, now I wanna try Nerdorama's Chiro team out on Pokémon Showdown
