A Little Vice (Trans Magical Girl fic)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I find it super interesting C, who has an emotionally abusive dad, created a monster that turned some of the team into kids. It's an interesting thematic link to manifest the idea that Trauma can take someone's childhood away by having her make a monster that tries to give others a sort of second childhood. I wonder what other sort of "Wierd" monsters C has made...

You were trans or you weren't. I might have not known much about what it was like to actually be trans, but wanting wouldn't make you a girl trapped in a man's body.
No idea where the quote is originally from, but here you go, C:
wanting to be a girl is a common symptom of being a girl 💖

Michael, landing on my head, nodded agreeably.
Michael: "By the power vested in me by the creator, I order you to take a nap!"

(Also: Inessa shipped the main heroine with her evil doppelganger? Or at least some kind of evil counterpart? Hm...)
And now she's crushing on Lupin. The dramatic irony. And there's the C/Temperance situation, too.

Although speaking of Lupin, I have to wonder if her own efforts to help C will have her switching sides first.

Well, currently, becoming an abyssal Beast seems to actually be helping C out in some ways, so if anything it's reinforcing Lupin staying with the Forest. Since C really needs that whole "Let your desires run wild" thing because holy shit so much repression. So yeah, actually giving Lupin more evidence that they're right and the forest is a good thing. Unlikely to switch sides because of this, though potentially after C achieves some kind of realization the course of events will change. Also I massively envy how C is apparently getting at least some degree of subconscious transition, judging by the comments made about their appearance.

Oh my gosh. I just had a realization. This chapter all but confirmed Temperance was Gula Shark, and made it clear she's trans. And she's been all supportive of C's egg cracking this whole time. Combine that with the fact @Shadell has said she didn't intend the Gwar Gura comparison and I just realized what Temperance's deal is.

She's a fucking Blåhaj.

Sorry if that was obvious to the rest of you. It only just hit me.

Hilarious ey doesn't realize C is dissociating and has no idea about eir secret identity. Course, living with Mr Noir must make someone good at repression and pretending everythin is fine. Oh, ey seemed upset and guilty at Mr Noir being interested in C, so there is some awareness about eir group.
On Blåhaj references. Another, more Christian, darker trans magical girl fic I saw had constant attacks by shark demons until an ancient giant shark got revived by the villains and purified by the mc, becoming a friendly giant flying shark. It's odd there are two holy trans magical girl stories with purified sharks.

You can't just say "friendly giant flying shark" and not give a source!
No pressure though.

Can find somewhere on AO3. It is mature, mostly due to the demons being violent but I think there was also stuff that goes on in college parties.

Weirdly enough, I actually started reading that the other day but dropped it. (Mostly because the character work didn't feel that natural to me).

...

There really isn't enough trans (and trans magical girl) adjacent fiction dammit.

Hold on, I need to google something.

Oh, that's neat.

It's hard to tell if Avaricia thinks C knows what ey's (ey're?) talking about, or if ey just enjoy lightly messing with her. Both would match eir characterization.

But a substantial fraction of trans fiction is magical-girl-related.
Whenever I come across another trans magical girl story, I'm torn between being surprised at how common that is (I would get so many nickels) and being surprised at that surprise. I'm still not sure which of those impulses is more reasonable.

Anyways, if you're looking for more trans magical girl stuff, here's some stuff I either remembered or googled:
There's more out there, I just can't remember any of it well enough to google it.

Okay if another person starts talking about this fic without linking it forget Temperance I'll start biting!

If you want trans magical girl stuff I could mention Ryk Spoor's Princess Holy Aura. In short, it's about a guy who fights off a pack of monsters attacking a little boy in an alley, and who is then informed by a talking mouse that he has been chosen to battle against cosmic badness. A duty which incidentally requires him to stop being a fourty-year-old man and become a fourteen-year-old girl. It's pretty unusual in that it's a published novel, by Baen no less. It's... not his best work, but I found it enjoyable enough to keep reading. It does use a fair amount of conversational troping and lampshading such, so if you're not into that kind of thing you might want to skip it.

It kind of shows that he got his start writing fanfiction, honestly.
