Psionics are closer to a Racial power than a teachable skill. You either can or you can't. You can Potentially break the invasion, though the aliens aren't playing seriously at the moment.
Undead army+super science=Necro mechs.

Meeting The Commander
It's been over a day since your imprisonment and you've run out of ink after only managing to cover one of the walls. The only reason you know so much time has passed is because you've been brought four meals already. Considering that the meal you've just finished was porridge of some sort, you conclude that it is morning now.

Not a moment after you push the bowl away, a man enters the room. Grey hair, weathered skin, and an ugly scar that bisects his nose from below his left eye to his chin... this is a man with experience if nothing else. Unlike the woman from before, this man has guards with him as he takes a seat opposite you.

Studying you as you do the same in return, he looks to the concentric circles of runes along the wall behind you. "I'm not one for formality, so let's just get down to why I'm here." The man says eventually. "After tapping into satellite footage and requesting local support in the investigation, we've yet to find the other end of your 'Oblivion Gate' in either France or any other council nation and I'm beginning to think we won't. While such a large search will take a while, I'm inclined to trust my gut on this."

"Oh? That young woman I spoke with was rather confident in her assumptions." You reply casually, the fact that you have no idea what or where France is was completely ignored by your previous visitor.

"To put it simply, you're an unknown. A mystery. I don't like mysteries, that sort of thing gets people killed in my line of work."

Smiling, you tilt your head slightly. "Whatever do you mean? How could I be so mysterious after I answered your associates questions. Lovely young lady by the way... Is she your daughter?"

One of the man's bodyguards chokes at that, causing the other one to slap him on the back of the head. Ignoring the byplay, the man shakes his head at your question. "No, Doctor Vahlen is our chief researcher and she's informed me that you believe you're some sort of wizard."

With an affronted look, you respond, "What would give her that idea? I am not simply 'some sort' of wizard! I am The wizard. The nerve of that girl, to say such things about a Grand Sorcerer... Why, she's lucky I'm such a humble and forgiving man or I might turn her into a goat."

"Riiight." He drawls, obviously not believing a word of it. "I'll believe it when I see it, I guess."

Clapping your hands in mock excitement, you grin at the three men. "Wonderful, let's have a demonstration then, shall we?" Holding up a hand, you create a ball of light.

Stunned silence follows and you let the spell dissipate after a couple seconds. "Ok... Magic." The scarred man says, still staring at your hand as you lower it back to the table. Clearing his throat, he inspects the wall once more before asking, "How easily could you have escaped by now?"

"Hmm... Well, I suppose I could have transmuted the door to gold and melted it... But I'm not interested in such things. My apprentice and her sister are still here after all and I really would like to make sure they are alright, they did have a transliminal accident after all." While you are truthful about what you could do, it isn't what you would do if you wanted to leave. No need to give away your real escape plans.

The mind-boggled expressions return before the guards start to whisper to one another while eyeing you greedily. Ah... human nature is rather predictable, this should lead to a perfect chance to defend yourself and acquire some samples of local technology in a justifiable manner. Maybe you will turn them into zombies as well, more minions are always nice to have. On that note, you should probably summon Louise's familiar when you get the chance, the thing is probably still crawling around somewhere.

Unknowing of the fate his subordinates will likely bring upon themselves, the scarred man speaks. "Visiting the two is rather simple to arrange, though there is still the matter of you knowing about the location of this base. If you're willing to offer some sort of aid to our efforts, I believe we can come to some sort of agreement on the matter."

[] Volunteer Louise for combat, the girl needs to hone her skills without relying on your guidance.

Cynric must permit the Manticore more time to slaughter and increase its power, then summon it in the middle of the alien forces. It will instinctively destroy them and build up power yet further, until - humbled by its raw prowess - the aliens bow before it, and it becomes their new ruler. Then it proceeds to lead the alien assault on Earth. Cynric is recruited to defend the world, but he just slips out through the oblivion gate and then disables it from the other side.

By which I mean...

[X] Agree to help
-[X] With medical problems, restoration should make short work of their injuries
-[X] Examine their technology and consider enchanting some of it, provided they're willing to pay for his efforts. Possibly including knowledge, equipment, ingredients, and more...
--[X] If Cynric is able to make several useful potions. 1) Lots more magicka restoration, 2) 3+ Invisibility potions... Tag along on one of their expeditions - tell them about Mass Paralyze. Position self using invisibility and being sneaky between XCOM and the aliens, have XCOM get their attention and then retreat - pulling the aliens after them. Mass paralyze and drop a large portion of the alien force, drink another invisibility potion. XCOM finishes off the stragglers. Half dozen or more captives for interrogation & samples of plasma weaponry and more that don't self destruct because the user was killed, merely paralyzed? Long before they've researched the "if they have 3 or less health you MIGHT be able to taze them" tazer? Big win for XCOM, and Cynric gets a plasma gun toy which would prove invaluable wherever he might go ;)

Heck. Even if they don't know about the weapons exploding when their user dies, a lot of interrogation targets would be invaluable. Speed up their research and unlock new options in the lab menu. That's how it works when it's real life for them, right? They've got a menu of options? :D

-[X] Louise too, and her familiar.

Do try and keep in mind that X-com Aliens are psychic. An ability that Cynric has never even heard of.

I don't see invisisbilty protecting against psychic probes.

Even if my exact vote doesn't win, I think lots more magicka restoration and 3+ invisibility potions will :)
We should probably try to get some healing potions going too now that I think about it. Dunno if that slipped my mind, or I just assumed we still had some.
Checking the inventory...
Code:
Minor Health Regeneration potion (x3): Speeds natural regeneration. What would take months to heal now heals in a week.
Minor potion of Restore health (x1): Heals one wound. Does not heal major organs or bones.

That aint enough. We'll have to fix that sooner or later. Or maybe we can get some medspray from xcom which does the wondrous thing of healing hitpoints of either armor or actual body damage, even such grievous wounds as those caused by plasma grenades, missiles, plasma *guns*, and more. Though it still requires long term care afterwards it can keep you alive long after you should've died twice over - and the minor regeneration potions would do wonders there to back it up.

Visiting Hours
"Very well, I shall need to speak with your outfitter to know what I am to work with and access to some materials that may be difficult to find, though not until I see my apprentice." You offer, accepting the deal as you stand. Waving your hand, you use Telekinesis to open the door from the other side and wait for your escorts to catch up.

--------------------------------

"-ill can't understand you." You hear from the other side of the door. The commander had split off from your group in order to 'make some arrangements' while you speak with Louise.

Entering the room, you see your snarling apprentice strapped to a bed. "Stop saying whatever you're saying and untie me already you worthless animal!"

"I. Don't. Know. What. You. Are. Saying." A woman in a white and grey jumpsuit says in annoyance, not bothering to look up from the glowing rectangle on the small desk next to Louise's bed. The two guards with you wait outside the room, peeking nervously at the restrained girl.

Not bothering to announce your presence, you make it halfway across the room before Louise notices you. "Master!" She shouts after the shock and confusion of your sudden arrival fades. "How did you find me here? Where even is here? Where's Cattleya? Is the princess... er.. queen okay?"

"Jesus Christ, kid, shut the hell up already!" The woman in white yells, slamming her hands on the desk as she moves to stand. She makes it halfway out of the seat before meeting your eyes. "Oh... hello." She says dumbly, seemingly frozen in that position.

"Greetings." You say with a smirk, causing her to blush and finish standing. Gesturing toward the pinkette, you tease, "I see bedside manner is in short supply around here."

The woman brushes a strand of blonde hair out of her face and crosses her arms. "In case you haven't heard, this pint-sized terror tore through a quarter of the security here a few hours ago. You'll forgive me if I'm not gonna let her do whatever she did to Doctor Moore again."

"Stop that! I can hardly understand a word your saying! What are you talking about?" Louise interrupts.

"Nothing important." You reply. "To answer your questions; magic, a secret military base, Cattleya is most likely somewhere nearby, and Henrietta-" You glare the girl into submission when she attempts to interrupt you. "- is with Quelana."

The woman, who may or may not be a doctor, attempts to stop you from releasing your apprentice. She is rather unsuccessful in her attempt, due to the fact that she randomly started screaming and clutching at her eyes. A quick look at Louise's face confirms your suspicion that she blinded the woman. Shrugging, you ignore the cries of panic and summon Tsun.

Two wet impacts announce the arrival of a bisected zombie. Louise squeals in happiness and proceeds to use her magic to move the two halves back together. "This is perfect, now we can let my familiar block their attacks while we escape!" She says with a malicious grin. "Lets see the peasants try to stop me again without their insidious poisons."

Mussing her hair, you feel a slight pang of guilt at crushing her hopes with your next statement. "Unfortunately, you will need to refrain from such activities for now, as I have negotiated an alliance of sorts with the locals."

"What?! What do we need them for?" She demands furiously. Obviously her fragile pride has taken a hit with her recent defeat. However that came about.

Before you can speak, the commander walks into the room with a balding man who looks even older than you. "Doctor Shen, this is the person I was telling you about. Cynric, this is Raymond Shen, our engineering chief. If it involves building, maintaining, or designing, Dr. Shen is the one to talk to."

"Pleased to meet you." Shen extends his hand, which you shake as he continues. "The Commander mentioned your... talents. While I can't speak for all my colleagues, I for one am certainly looking forward to working with you."

"Likewise, it will be interesting to work with a fellow innovator." Platitude offered, you turn your attention to the scarred man. "My apprentice and I can be of more assistance than simply providing crafting services. I am an accomplished healer and have begun training my apprentice in the same capacity."

The next hour or so is spent working out the details, but in the end it is decided that in exchange for your services, you and the Valliere sisters will be free to take any reproducible gear that you can carry when the war is over. You are once more reminded of the fact that you haven't seen the elder sister yet. Oh well, she's probably fine.

A/N: There will be a timeskip to the next X-com mission. The vote for potions will be included with whatever you vote to do during the timeskip. Since I haven't been able to sleep, I may have missed more than usual in editing.

Can we enchant for Luck? I understand that critical hits and impossible odds are rather important in Xcom. Giving soldiers armor that repairs itself over time and encourages blasts to focus on the armor over squishy parts sounds good to me. Otherwise...

[X] Also find something for Quelana to tinker with. She's the only one you can hold a good conversation with. Maybe communications techniques are worth some research...

I wonder if magic can be analyzed and/or interacted with via scientific method. They are able to detect a radiation spike. Maybe Shen could help design something that would let us store it? Not as enchantments, but some kind of portable spell containers that can be release their content at will?

Not much different from scrolls in the resulting effect, except for a different principle of working. Something to cast spells into with a delayed effect. Bonus point if a container can be used multiple times.

I feel like we should save invisible troops and flying troops for a surprise. Aliens are used to lumbering humans and then when there's an assault on their base and they can't even find the people attacking... or suddenly the humans outmaneuver them on an attack, force them to the back foot for a moment at least.

Luck enhancements are not an option at this time. That armor idea requires far more magicka than you have access to, that kind of thing is up there with aedric or daedric artifacts. Maybe if you had good help and a few grand souls to spare you could make one given time, but ex-nihilo mass generation and probability manipulation is rather rare even in TES.

Why are we teaching x-com magic? We should be subverting them, taking all their knowledge, exploiting gene-mods and psionic advancements for ourselves and then bailing.
