Just caught up and I must say I'm excessively pleased with a Chaotic Neutral protagonist and a Dark Souls (kinda) Quest all in one. This is ridiculously rare and I love it.

Also, I noticed something:

Both. Dark souls tends to use poison and toxin as a catchall for anything that causes sickness. The blight is a culmination of generations of human waste buildup and Eingyi's poison pyromancy. Some purple moss would take care of the poison side, but you don't have any.

You said this, and thus that whole mini plotline where the Pale Lady wasn't healed yet? But...

Flying low over the perimeter of the area, the two of you thoroughly search every crevice and hole, but there isn't much useful loot to be found. The first thing you checked was the body of the leech victim, discovering some purple moss in one of it's pouches.

So... *shrugs*

Anywho, regarding this vote:

[X] X-com's current armor is trash
-[X] Enchant for flight.

[X] Magic lessons with
-[X] Louise.
--[X] Get her a language enchanted object as well.

[X] Create a new Staff of Levitation

Lots of utility votes have been missed in lieu of lulz, which is understandable, but this is one that could've been fixed long ago.
Also, we need to check out her sword to figure out what it can do beyond the basics. I suspect there's more to it than there appears to be. If it serves as a pokeball with a summonable creature within, able to temporarily form a body and act semi autonomously (like Dremora), it'd be invaluable. And also an excuse for us to get one of our own, when we get a new and better staff to shove one inside of.

Yes, I noticed that and then mentioned the fact that even though he has it, Cynric still doesn't know that it cures poison.

I actually expected you guys to use Londium as a stronghold to conquer Albion for yourselves. Instead you abandoned the army of minions and literal mounds of treasure, destroyed several towns and left the world.

Also... why do you want a staff of levitation instead of taking one of the kevlar vests that you are planning on enchanting with the same effect?

Utility. Take both. See about getting new or different stuff later. Plus, the staff is a status thing at this point. We're naked without it. Plus, if our staff breaks again or our armor is destroyed, we have backup.

Can we add other enchantments later?

Of course, you can build something out of many smaller enchanted items if you want, as an aethernaut would need many effects to properly navigate the heavens and so too would you were you to emulate them. I should have time to type up the next chapter tomorrow, so you have time to think on it if you need to.

Hmm. I've an idea I want to run past you to see if it's viable.

Mostly, by fiery soul trap, do you mean a fire spell and soul trap? Because that is possible, but you can only do so much during the timeskip and you're already trying to teach louise, make a translation object that uses your language knowledge for Louise instead of her own, and create two dozen enchanted vests.

It's an official spell on the Skyrim wiki, which deals 10 fire damage and will trap a Soul if they die within 5 seconds. Happens to be a hybrid spell that also makes any other enchantments stronger, for some reason.

Huh... so it is. I don't think I've ever found the axe it's on or if i did, I just tossed it in a chest in Breezehome and forgot about it.

Man, it's a damn good thing that none of the Dragonborn's enemies ever break into their house to steal their shit, because given the kinds of incredibly dangerous legendary artifacts they could find just lying around, that'd end real bad for everyone else.:p

March 3rd

Raymond Shen, the leader of the local artificer guild equivalent, has provided me with a data pad for 'messaging, a research journal, opening doors and who could forget... WiFi access.'

Of course, after being told what this WiFi is, the first thing I did was remove the relevant portion of the device and placed a shock rune under the screen to prevent others from accessing this journal. On a similar note, I must now power the removed piece with shock magic to move about the base.

While going over a list of necessary components with the base requisitions officer, I confirmed that the people here have no idea how proper magic is done. Pagan witchcraft indeed.

Apparently asking for a stock of animals to harvest for souls causes the locals to become upset. Three hours of arguing over silly notions of 'animal rights' and sending the supply depot into a religious debate, I have discovered that not only do these people have no idea what soul gems are, but they have not even confirmed the existence of souls. Honestly, I would write them off as primitives, but some of their contraptions are impressive enough to consider them similar to Dwemeri mechanics who sacrifice durability for variety.

Nevertheless, one of the researchers is called in eventually and after hearing the description of a soul gem, an order is placed for one hundred 'aura quartz'.

It is now nearing sundown and Louise shall begin learning alteration magics.

March 6th

A day and a half. So many hours lost to the girl's mistake. Granted, it is a rather new method of an old spell that was made to prevent the girl from making my head explode, but it worked fine when I tested it.

While teaching Louise to cast an Alteration based Invisibility, physically removing oneself from sight rather than changing the perception of others, one of the locals barged in on us. Startled, the girl put far too much power into the spell and instead of simply removing herself from view, she apparently removed the three of us from physical existence. Thankfully the spell ended when she ran out of magicka, but I now refuse to be in the same room as her when she practices any Alteration.

Being locked out of time and space is an indescribable terror that I shall avoid for as long as possible. There are things I dare not remember that lurk at the threshold of reality, I can feel the touch of the Mad Star on my mind even now.

March 7th

The Aura Quartz has arrived and it is both promising and disappointing.

Ignoring the metal coating, the crystals are the proper material, but completely absent of the inherent magicka of a proper soul gem. At most they would hold the soul of a bee before crumbling. Thankfully I have access to someone with a ridiculous amount of magicka and am having her pour the raw energy over the crystals in an effort to reproduce the natural process that creates soul gems on Nirn.

In other news, Raymond and I have decided that maneuverability is the most important aspect of combat for X-com until his team can get access to the aliens' technology. When we voiced the idea of Levitation armor to the combat teams, one of them offered to have my children. I told him that not only is that impossible without unnecessarily complex magics, but I would use such an abomination for ingredients.

March 12th

I have discovered what Cattleya has been up to lately. The woman skipped into my room late last night and tossed a box at me. Upon opening it, I discovered a strange insectoid head staring back at me. She apparently brought samples of all the ingredients on the Valliere lands and has been growing them on the surface around the base, including chaurus and spiders. How she managed to convince the locals to allow that, she wouldn't say.

The soul gems are starting to glow and should be ready soon, which is good, because my apprentice is reaching a breaking point. Living each day surrounded by strange people that she cannot understand has been wearing on her.

In order to prevent an incident, I took the time to teach her the Frost Cloak spell to distract her. Unfortunately, our last lesson has had the side effect of the commander sending one of the combat team leaders to keep an eye on us. Ms. Granger seemed as annoyed as Louise at the news, but kept to herself as Louise ranted about the man's lack of intelligence and how much she despises the locals. I suspect the X-com woman could understand the girl, judging by her scowl deepening throughout the entire thing.

March 15th

The first soul gems are done and Louise took her sister to hunt bears and other large wildlife outside. If the useless louts in supply would just bring in a stock of hounds or something, I would be enchanting already, but apparently I am being 'insensitive'.

For once, Vahlen is on my side and is currently bringing the issue to the commander. As it turns out, potential extinction is enough to convince the doctor to set aside her grievances with magic. Why the woman cannot understand that magic is a clearly defined science is beyond me, but I chose not to mention that should this group of humans die off, it would not be extinction. This does bring up a thought that has been on my mind lately; why are humans so prolific?

My best guesses are that either some entities summoned masses of humans into other realms for unknown purposes, smaller scale incidents such as what happened to the Dwemer, or perhaps even secret Imperial colonization during the rule of the Reman dynasty.

Maybe some day I will uncover the truth, but I find that unlikely at best.

March 20th

Since the sisters slaughtered much of the local wildlife, I have managed to not only enchant two dozen armored vests with a Levitation effect, but have also made another staff of Levitation from a branch of wood and created a simple steel band that goes around Louise's head that will allow her to tap into my understanding of languages. The spell was rather simple in concept and only took a day to create. Of course, I had to modify and restrict it's potential quite a lot to prevent it from simply copying all of my knowledge and skills to the girl, that would have been disastrous. It would have turned her into transplanted mind clone at best.

While there is potential in such a thing, I would prefer to be the only copy of myself unless I can increase my magicka enough to create a constant mental connection between bodies. Conjuration specialists are known to create such a connection between master and student, but mere communication is not enough to run the risk of cloning myself... though if I could devise such a means of communication that does not require training others in the great equalizer that is Conjuration, it could be quite useful.

Louise has managed to perfect the invisibility spell and is using it to great effect by terrorizing the locals. I've taken to casting Muffle on my door to prevent the annoyed personnel from interrupting me with their complaints about the girl's cruel pranks. If she wishes to practice her stealth techniques once more, I wo

------------------------------

An obnoxious noise interrupts your tapping at the device. It would seem that now is the perfect opportunity to investigate these aliens firsthand.

Donning the Levitation vest and your coat, you rush from the room. It doesn't take long for you to arrive in the Skyranger Hangar and board the nearest vessel. Nodding to Granger, you take a seat beside one of the nervous soldiers. Moments before the door closes, Louise rushes in and squeezes in between you and the door. The girl is wearing the full set of X-com body armor, minus the helmet. Judging by the girl's cold expression toward the rest of the squad and the few glares she gets in return, this is going to be an awkward ride.

Uncaring of the atmosphere, Granger looks over you all as the aircraft takes off. "Alright ladies, here's the situation. We're headed for a small town on the coast of Spain, word of the invasion is still being kept under wraps due to the covert method of attack they are currently using. Villages here and there are going quiet, but so far they've yet to make an attack on a large population center. It's not likely to last, so we need to take advantage of the situation and capture as many samples as possible before things get worse. You see any tech, odd substances, or bodies... bag 'em up."

General battle plan:

[] Agressive. Summon Daedra and push through the town.
[] Write in.

[] Stealth. Avoid direct combat.

[] Sweep and Clear. It may be slow, but it's better than leaving an enemy to the rear.

[] Write in.

[] Stealth. Avoid direct combat.

Deaths from lack of knowledge of the enemy is going to be high, best to minimize contact for now. A proper ambush on the enemy is a great way of equalizing things. Plus this early in the war it should be about one to four teams depending on vanilla or long war. Lets not have to replace the highly trained soldiers(meatshields) as much as possible.

One team was slaughtered to a man in germany during the 'tutorial mission' under Bradford's command and another team has one survivor from the Commandy one's first day on the job. Not including you or the sisters, X-com is down to 13 strike team members.

Well if this is vanilla then that is a perfectly doable amount of soldiers, if long war then nope that shit is going down hill. There is a reason some lpers like making the rookies wear literal red armour. But hey at least the new people are not going to 'initially' hate the magic duo.

[X] Support. You'll supply healing, buffs, debuffs, and other miscellaneous assistance.

Alien Mating Rituals?
"Five to drop! Remember, satellite coverage will only last for half an hour. We do this fast or risk x-rays dropping in on us unannounced." The sergeant yelled, pulling everyone's attention from whatever last minute preparations they were doing. "The town's pretty much a hundred buildings in a straight road down the peninsula. It's been over a day since the suspected abduction, so hopefully there won't be much danger. Keep it quiet out there just in case. Nilsson, Ebba, you two circle around the outskirts. The rest of us will push through town and meet you on the other side. Kilton, on point. Short stuff, stick with Epsinoza in the rear, he'll keep you safe." She says, pointing from Louise to a tanned man with a tube on his back.

Bristling, your apprentice argues, "I can probably fight better than any of you commoners, why should I hide behind you?!"

"It ain't like that, chica." The man interjects, pulling her across the walkway and whispering loud enough that he could be heard easily enough by everyone. "We heavies gotta stick together, keep an eye on the rest of these lunatics, ya know?"

"Heavy? All she's got is a sword, standards must be falling pretty hard around here." A redguard woman scoffs, her accent giving her speech an odd quality, as though each word required emphasis. "Will you recruit that freak with the extra arms when they let him out of the lab as well?

Laughing, Espinosa shakes his head and tells your apprentice, "Ignore them, they're just upset because none of them can blow up the aliens like you an' I." Taken off guard by the comment, the girl's questioning look makes him smile. "Oh, I seen your artwork on the range. When we get back, how about we get together with some friends of mine and see if we can nurture that little skill of yours, yeah?"

You shrug when she looks to you for guidance and listen as the interior light changes from red to green. "Game time, ladies!" Granger shouts and dives out the door. A moment later, the rest of you are floating down to the ground along side her. Unfamiliar with the hand-signs she uses, you settle down on a nearby rooftop. Lights are flickering in the windows and a mechanical wagon blocks the end of the street, but the place seems mostly normal if you ignore the lack of people.

With the entire group of six levitating, none of you need to worry about making much noise as you float between buildings and you swiftly arrive at a large indoor market. As you are about to pass over the place, the device on your ear crackles to life. "Too large an area to ignore. Heavies, There's skylights on the roof, that should be a good over-watch position." Flagg's voice says. "Can't get a picture of the inside, but no sign of enemy activity in the skies, so you don't need to worry about reinforcements. You've got twenty minutes to clear the building and get to the evac point before we lose coverage."

Various noises of confirmation come from the squad as Louise and her partner land on the rooftop while the rest of you prepare to enter through various windows. Once everyone is in position, you slide the glass out of the way and enter a clothing store on the second floor. While you search the odd booths for occupants, your earpiece activates again with a muttered curse from the redguard. "We've got movement, first floor. Near the coffee shop."

"Roger, got eyes on a survivor. Old woman, seems shell shocked. Orders?" Espinoza confirms from his perch on the roof.

Exiting onto the balcony, you spot most of the group at various positions around your side of the area. "Maintain distance and attempt to communicate. If you see any purple lights or aggressive movements, shoot to kill."

"Kill? Aren't we here to help? Y'now, 'cuz we're the good guys." Kilton asks naively, earning a nod of agreement from the redguard.

"The enemy possesses some form of mind control, we lost an entire squad to this exact tactic." Flagg tells the man. Watching the man nervously call out to the unresponsive woman, judging by her shambling gait and bloody clothes, you're certain that the woman is already dead and the fool is wasting his breath on a zombie.

Scoffing as the man refuses to do what must be done, you say, "Every hero is a villain as well, if you cannot kill a single 'innocent', I suppose that is why we brought the girl along."

Said girl takes the hint and spears the woman in the face with a spear of ice. With a haughty laugh, she stands silhouetted against the sky and seems to bask in the outrage from the two soft-hearted fools as they shout and Kilton points his weapons at her.

"You absolute bitch!" Kilton growls out, pulling away from the redguard whose name you still don't know. You should probably ask about her at some point. "What kind of monster just laughs about murdering civilians?!

Unaffected, she sniffs in disdain, "You should be grateful, it's not every day a cowardly peasant can say they were saved by a noble such as I."

"Easy, loco, no need to kill each other when we got aliens to do it for us, eh?" Espinoza says, trying to calm things down.

Kilton opens his mouth to respond, but before he can say a word, a meaty rip is heard as the old woman's corpse bursts apart and insect-like creature crawls out of the offal. The quadrupedal creature's spindly legs slide out of the corpse's limbs and the thing swiftly pounces on the unnamed trooper, shoving it's pincered head into her torso. A horrified shout of "Abdellah!" informs you that the man does in fact have a name.

Rather than stand still to be taken down in the same manner as his teammate, Kilton sprints for the main entrance as the beast screeches and chases after him. A distant screech answers from further down the peninsula. Of course, once the initial surprise is over, the soldiers all fire on the bug. The few shots that hit the speedy creature mostly glance off at an angle and you are forced to use Telekinesis when it almost manages to snap it's pincers on the trooper as he fumbles with the door.

"Fly, you fool!" You shout in annoyance as the creature's weight allows it to escape your feeble attempt at holding it back. Kilton, in an act of supreme stupidity, uses your advice and throws himself through the glass door and into a parked vehicle outside rather than floating over the alien.

You notice Abdellah struggle back to her feet, but other than casting a quick Heal on her, you disregard her for the moment to focus on dealing with the enemy. A casting of Ash Shell immobilizes the creature long enough for Granger to fire one of her rifle's ridiculously large bullets through it's face. Abdellah clutches her wound to stem the bleeding and goes to check on Kilton's unconscious body.

"X-rays spotted." Nilsson's voice shouts into your ear. "Whatever's going on over there, it's causing a panic here, wrap it up! We got a bunch of little grays surrounding a group of civilian in a warehouse. Lots of green flashes in the windows."

Hey, anyone wondering what'd happen if we take a tamed manticore into the Pokemon universe? So am I!
