Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

You swung to this rather abruptly. What made you think about this? And how would he know in the first place?

I got thinking: what people would like to get their hands on Taylor or/magic, and who could get access to that information?

Mind you, Teacher is just a possibility and one not too likely at that, I honestly would put my money on...

...

It' Coil, isn't it? I mean, this fits his MO; he could have been probing her constantly throughout the week, and now that Taylor's in a bad mindspace, he got lucky enough in one of his simulations that he's dedicating his two lines on capturing her.

@Silently Watches, please tell me I'm wrong? Please?

Even more so since he's Birdcaged and has limited/controlled exposure to the outside world's news.

In the event he is behind this little encounter, he's acting rather rashly/stupidly imo.

Given this-
This enemy you're going to go against without any hints.
I don't think you're getting an answer about that.

Not really? For all we know he's been constantly attacking Taylor since she left the hospital in his simulations, dropping them whenever he failed while gaining information all the while.

And now he's got enough intel on how we fight and an advantage he's making a move.

'Sides, I'm only learning from my senpais in paranoia.

[X] Aerial barrage
-[X] Drop a Wide Area Search and a Bursting Flare Shooter aimed at the ground in front of them to gather data and provide cover while getting some height on them... a hundred or two hundred meters should do.
-[X] Call Sam, ask her to teleport here and bring up the Recursion Field.
-[X] Once she's here and you get information about these guys abilities and numbers, attack. Sam will cover you.
--[X] Light them up with as many Flare Shooters as you can.
--[X] If there is more of them or they seems actually dangerous, don't hesitate to use Temporal Sludge and Solar Wrath.

Just personally, I'd say, these guys are expecting a flying blaster, so witch things up, drop to ground level and take off their legs with a Lethal Flare Blade and Blitz action. There's three of them, and we've got three changes of direction, itd work.
No way I'd get the votes for that though.
A mod for nonlethal would be to cut their guns in half. Three different people all shooting energy blasts? Not likely capes. It'd be three different types of blasts, a notable descriptive feature. That leaves Tinker Equipped peeps.

Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip.

I'm enjoying the speculation, though. Quite amusing. Please continue. :D

[X] Close the distance for melee

Come on we in the right mood to knock some skulls besides they were shooting energy blasts might be we could throw them by blitzing them

Yeah, no, regardless of who is behind it I'd rather not we find out by being captured.

I urge you guys to favor running away in your votes.

As you asked!
There's also that out-of-nowhere appearance of Trickster, or his power at the very least, all the way back in early Arc 4.

That, combined with Typhon's similarities to Noelle makes it possible that Coil brought the Travelers over to Philadelphia, either from Brockton or when he already resettled. Maybe in an attempt to destabilize the city and taking it over like in canon, or simply to have extra assets on hand.

There's also the chance that if it was the snake at all, he has been long consumed into one of Typhon's creations, and while all of the Beast's actions seem random and unplanned his power could be used to manage subtler skirmishes.

And on a completely unrelated note:
The Market vanishes behind a building, but you barely pay any attention to that as you notice something strange. You can hear… Is someone whistling? No, not someone, you decide; the sound is too high-pitched and constant to be a person. It sounds more like a tea kettle than anything, but still not quite right. What is it?

Where am I?

Who am I?

What is my purpose?

How did I get here?

Where am I supposed to be?

Will someone come for me?

Help me!

Help me!

Help me!

Help me!

Help m—

You creep forward, eyes shifting around just in case it does turn out to be a person with less than noble intentions, but the alleyway is completely abandoned. The sound is coming from behind that dumpster in front of you, and you peek around the corner.

"Whoa…"

The whistling stops as you stare at an ocean-blue jewel laying innocently on the ground just below a dent in the dumpster. As long as your thumb and just a little wider, it has already been cut into a diamond shape, and the four visible facets gleam in the dying sunlight. You pick it up as a smile grows on you face, the expression feeling strange after living so long without one. You just found the solution to your money problems.

"Nakecdan: haf ican."

You nearly drop the jewel in shock, its sudden glow gone again. Did it just talk?! Crystals don't talk!

…Not unless they're actually Tinkertech.

"Tufhmuyt: myhkiyka (mulym)."

If it is Tinkertech, you could sell it to the PRT! The only Tinkers in Brockton Bay are Armsmaster, Kid Win, Squealer, and Leet. If it is Armsmaster's or Kid Win's, you'll probably get a reward for returning it, and since it isn't an unholy amalgam of vehicles, it can't be Squealer's. As for Leet… You snort. If this is a working piece of Leet-tech, it should be even more valuable, if only because it's the first of its kind.

Then again, why would it be speaking in nonsense unless it was broken?

Who are you?

"Declaration. Salutations.
"Query. Identity (new user)."

Does Stranger Danger apply to magic supercomputers?
"Um, hi?" you reply uncertainly. New user? "I'm Taylor. Are you… talking to me?"

What do you want?

"Affirmative.
"Query. Desire (Taylor)."

It takes you a moment to parse the robot-speak. "Query desire… You want to know what I want?"

"Affirmative."

"Why?"

"Declaration. Function (unit): assist (Taylor)."

"You just want to help?" you ask in confusion and, if you're honest, a little surprise. The first thing to care about you in the last year and a half, and it's a bullshit Tinkertech gemstone. You don't know if that's depressing or incredible. "Shouldn't you… I don't know. Go back to your creator or something?"

"Negative.
"Identity (progenitor): undefined.
"Identity (unit): undefined.
"Status (memory): corrupted."

Will you help me?

That's… That's terrible. "You don't remember who you are?" Yes, 'who', you decide after a second's thought. This jewel, this whatever it is, is too intelligent for you to think of it as a 'what'.

"Affirmative.
"Query. Desire (Taylor)."

"Can you even give me whatever I want? What if it's something impossible?" you wonder. Already, you can imagine wishing for all the pranks the Trio have ever pulled on you to be visited back on them ten-fold, but you know that's not what you should want. You should be the bigger person; it's the kind of thing both your dad and your mom always taught you.

"Declaration. Desire: possible. Mechanism: magic."

Great. You shake your head with a sad little smile. Correction: the first thing to care about you, and it's a bullshit Tinkertech gemstone that believes it's a wizard.

Still, if it is telling the truth, if it really can give you whatever you want…

Desires for revenge are swept away as memories of your childhood dreams come to the forefront. Flying with Legend. Fighting crime with Alexandria. Making friends with the Wards. You sigh wistfully, "I wish I could be a superhero."

"Query. Function (superhero)."

"You don't know what heroes do?" Then again, if the jewel doesn't remember who it is or who its creator is, can you really expect anything else? It couldn't even speak English at first. "Well, they…"

You will.

I will help you, too.

I will give you whatever you want.

I will love you forever.

Just don't send me away again.

Mistress.

Huh. That was actually a good question.

Red text is from Set Up 1.3. Now go and check any of the interactions with Cassiel. Does it seem familiar to anyone?

Welp, that was.... unfortunate. Really, is it pure realistic amnesia (not qualified to say) or something worse? Thinking it an elaborate prank while sitting in a hospital bed is a pretty deep-denial stretch, and PS upgrades shouldn't throw off recognizing us as "aged up version of the kid i knew" when the ages in question would make him /expect/ a certain amount of growth. Or did we go in in-costume, despite him being registered under his proper name?

I note Lacey seemed a bit miffed that we didn't immedietely accept her offer.... I get it, both for the kindness and the adult-to-kid "what are your other options" mindset , but I'd hope she acknowledges we're too frazzled to decide on dinner atm. Fear she's on edge over the conflict with Kurt though, but really the power-imbalance and "work" disputes present do seem to suggest they aren't the best guardian choice. Capes need Cape parents if they ever want to contemplate grounding right? :p (Alas for want of Momberian.... our lovely Racoon feels more like the cool-Aunt most of the time, or rather Aunt-who-adopted rather than Mom).

With darkness beginning to fill the street and your eyes adjusting to the lessened light, you can just barely make out

I need to go back and look (very early fights?) but wasn't our costume able to do some HUD type stuff? I know that Perfect Storm can filter out say our sense of smell (it was mentioned in North Carolina when we melted the E88) but not sure if he can boost our night vision or anything.

Anyways, bandwagon ho!

[X] Aerial barrage/Run away
-[X] Drop a Wide Area Search and a Bursting Flare Shooter aimed at the ground in front of them to gather data and provide cover while getting some height on them...eighteen or nineteen hundred meters should do.
-[X] Once you've got some nice, protective distance...and some targeting data...light them up with as many Flare Shooters as you can put out for making this day suck even more while thinking up a more nuanced plan.

Wouldn't mind seeing this add a telepathy to at minimum Samantha, but ragey urge to blast and cut or not with her mood, she already expressed enough caution to creep towards what she saw. Having one or more attackers jump from the shadows (either having set an ambush, or being superior enough at stealth to realize they were spotted and jump us on the fly) very much suggests gain distance and gain intel.... while spamming firepower.

Recursion field (two different mispellings or not :p ) takes time to activate that they'd be attacking us, besides the level of forethought and the question of whether its quite needful (likely not if using nonlethal flares of any sort, unless we suspect it'd split the enemy) AND CUTS US OFF FROM SAMANTHA. Dreadful idea, even if I thought she'd run away outright from her own city to go hide with a bigger Cape.

Really don't see going lethal to be appropriate when we have no idea who or what the opposition is just yet. Easy enough to switch with an update, and honestly if its clear Beasts, ala rats or whatever new critter has energy I hope SW would switch mid-update based on our past interactions without a vote needed.

Flare blade to catch off guard whoever is ambushing us has some merit, but I don't know how I feel about leaning on secondary powerset and not trying to evade combat range, until we've gotten a WAS. At minimum I'd want WAS+Flare (and ideally night-vision from the jacket) before I committed to charging into the darkness.

His brain was damaged. I believe if Scapegoat did the healing he'd have gotten his brain spliced with an Alternate Danny, which would have had Effects. The Shard remembers, but its not going to help when its getting delicious conflict.

"He swears up and down that the last date he remembers is June first," she whispers. "June of 2005."
Welp.
Poor Taylor. And poor Danny. So much bad news are waiting for him.

I'm enjoying the speculation, though. Quite amusing. Please continue. :D
It's PRT troopers sent by Eidolon! He tired to watch how Legend and Alexandria are coddling oh so useful Calamity Witch and ordered to arrest and interrogate her.
It's White Hill mooks sent by Cailleach! She decided that the best way to deal with Kayleigh's fuck-up is to kill Taylor.
It's Privateers led by Ramirez! They tired of all these cape bullshit and cooperating with villains and decided to overthrow their leadership.
It's not actually real enemies, it's a simulation made by Storm to distract Taylor from her distress!
:V

...I think it would be quite amusing if this is really Coil and the next update will be a copy of this one, but without attack.
You were attacked? I don't know anything about it, there wasn't any attack on you!
Sadly it's impossible, Coil should have as many problems with predicting our magic as the Simurgh.

The Recursion Field is just so useful. It let us go wild with our spells, it let us to find out are they really capes, it has a chance to separate our attackers from each other.

-[X]You're not in the right mindset for dealing with this; whether it's the original Calamity Witch's impression or your own earned instincts, something tells you that going head on, as much as you may want to, is a bad idea.

I'm going to make a chimera out of these. Green color for what I took out of them.

Let me get this straight. You want to call for the Protectorate to come help then put up a dimensional barrier that they can't get through, and you want to get so high up that your targets are outside your Shooter's maximum range.

Somebodies clearly weren't thinking this plan through.

I think people might be over complicating this plan a little bit. In her state of mind i cant really see her going through with something with that many steps behind shoot and fly :p
