Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

Do Not Fear The Dark: WATCHERS OF THE ABYSS
You share a look before turning your eyes downwards again. You feel a chill run down your spine, but you grit your teeth as your eyes move across the compound. Fucking nothing. You lean backwards in the air slightly, a long sigh forcing it's way out of your mouth as you come to a conclusion. I can either demolish the place, or we are going to have to lure them out somehow.

You turn to Daiyu, noting the way her eyes keep moving towards the incinerator. "See anything?" She slowly nods, moving a hand to point. When you follow it, you see the barest sliver of a bleached white skull staring straight upwards at you. You flinch, but it only stares at you, eventually sinking back into the building silently. Well, there goes any chance we had at stealth.

"Right then, we have two options." She lets out a hum as her eyes move back and forth across the roof, you risk a glance down and see three skulls staring up at you. Fuck my life. "We can either demolish the entire place from here or we can go down there and try to bait them out. Last time, they didn't attack until we moved close to the Incinerator, but they are a lot more active this time compared to last." One skull appears as another skins back into the roof.

She makes a considering noise as she taps a finger against her armour. "I feel that I am strong enough to weather their blows, but I am uncertain if I could deal with being swarmed. There seem to be a great deal more of these than had been expected." As she was speaking, more and more skulls appear against the roof. There must be at least fifteen of them looking up at you now.

You frown as you stare down at them. "Their claws are sharp, they cut through both my sword, armour and me with barely any resistance. They also have some form of deathly feeling magic that I managed to negate last time, but I really don't want to see what could happen if they managed to co-ordinate to cast something." She nods as the numbers below continue increasing. What the fuck is this? We gotta speed this up.

You flick your radio on, calling out on the Enforcer channel quickly. "Ignition Knight here, Ebony knight and I are over at the Ghost Camp. Just uhh..." You see more skulls peeking through the brick. "We got a fucking problem. There are way more of these things than we thought, I can see over thirty from where I am. We need to set up a cordon to keep people away and if you could spare a medic or two to send our way, preferably someone who has a quick method of escaping danger, that would be great."

The line is quiet for a moment, before the channel erupts into noise, a large portion of it distinctly being German cursing. A voice cut over the rabble in the line before turning to English. "We don't have any mobile medics on hand, but the cordon is already in motion, if you can hold them from doing anything for ten minutes we can close the net."

Why me. "I understand, they don't seem to be about to attack just yet, but more and more of them keep showing up to stare at us. You better get moving, fast."

You hear a confirmation as you turn your eyes back to the building. There are so many skulls now that there isn't enough room for them on the roof, and they start appearing along the walls, empty sockets aimed squarely up at you.

[X] Burn it all down

The optional "don't burn everything down" objective is not worth the genuine risk these things represent.

Do what we should have done last time, and nuke it from orbit.

I can't help but think if couter force was around they would just level the place with enchanted artillery. I feel like we could really use some enchanted artillery. Like I am now concerned that we might not have enough firepower to glass the site before they scatter.

*Emergency Nope Alarm! Deactivating Lurk system*
[X] Burn it all down. Let nothing remain!

*Re-engaging Lurk*

ok I have an idea, if we start buning they scatter and we will not get them all. hoever we can be smart about this. freezing works almost as well and is far mor subtle.

[] plan contained burn.

[] first create a thick hollow dome of super cooled area to trap them (think 3d moat). It should be think enofgh that in game turns they would take at least 2 actiosn to cross it (adjust thickness to be done in less than 10 minutes, abandon plan if it's more than an action) be sure to include the area under ground as well since they can phase.
[] warn our support about the contiment zone. we don't want any friendly freezing.
[] once the containment field is nice and near absolute zero, and our support is on the scene, burn everything inside the moat with as high a temperature as possible. I want blast glass and plasma.

I'm using frost for condiment because cold is more subtle, and I'm using fire for the interior because we seem to be able to increase the damage dealt faster with heat.

They are intangible and entirely unaffected by temperature.

They are intangible and entirely unaffected by temperature.
That's a misleading statement. :sour:
(Pierce: +35 Base Damage, +15 Dice = 50 Total Damage
Fireball: +40 Base Damage, +3 Dice = 43 Total Damage
Icicle: +24 Base Damage, +1 Dice = 25 Total Damage
Thermal Spear: +108 Base Damage, +18 Dice, +85 Spell Boost = 211 Total Damage

Pierce x 3 = 150 Total Damage
Fireball x 2 = 86 Total Damage
Icicle x 4 = 100 Total Damage
Thermal Spear x 2 = 422 Total Damage

758 Total End Damage

Skull Wraith: +0 Base Resilience, +0 Dice, -100 Cannot Dodge = +100 Additional Damage

858 Final Damage

Intangibility: 50% Reduction

429 Final End Damage

Skull Wraith: 230 - 429 = -199)

[] Battle Plan: Nuke'Em All
-[] Tell Daiyu that her role will be to protect us while we're attacking.
-[] Use Alpha & Omega to protect both Daiyu and yourself from their spells.
--[] Stay as high as possible with Flight.
-[] Start casting multiple Thermal Lances that you will reserve for the Shades who try to reach you.
--[] If they still don't react, throw them enough Thermal Lances to entirely destroy the whole building.
---[] Rinse and repeat for every buildings.
----[] If you're not destroying the buildings fast enough, use Alpha & Omega at its maximum range instead.

[] Battle Plan: Annihilation
-[] Tell Daiyu that her role will be to protect us while we're attacking.
-[] Cast Alpha & Omega at its maximum range while covering both Daiyu and yourself.
--[] It will protect boy Daiyu and yourself from their spells.
-[] Use Thermal Control to accelerate the destruction of every buildings.

ok I got it. remember how we killed the wolf? if we get enough thermal spears ready at once it can do a decent artillery strike impression. How about we just fly up some and start casting thermal spears until we have around 30 and obliterate the incinerator? Everyone should keep in mind that we don't want them doing anything for the next 10 minuets.

First of all, it is a Dark Souls reference.

Secondly, guys...I can understand the panic, but why are people voting to burn it all down when Rukia just said this:
They are intangible and entirely unaffected by temperature.

Instead... how about this?

[X] Plan Fuck you and Thanks for the EXP
-[X] Take some more distance in the sky, fifty metres or more
-[X] Prepare thirty Thermal Spears to hover around you
-[X] While waiting for the enforcers to finish, talk to Daiyu; she should stay nearby and leave this one to you; keep the enforcers informed of what you do and what happens
--[X] Apologise, she might not get to do much here after all
--[X] Have her cast her shield on you and activate Ignition Aura as your active defense
-[X] Once the enforcers are done, lay down the bombardment with Juggernaut Wave. Start whereever you saw the most of those things near to each other, then sweep around the camp until there is nothing left; if there are no priority-targets, go for the edges first and work your way towards the center
--[X] Daiyu is on intercepting duty; while Juggernaut Wave recovers, Halt as many ghosts that try attacking you up there as you can before shooting them down; only use a handful of spears each time, not all at once
-[X] If all the ghosts come attacking, see if you can find a cluster to attack with Juggernaut Wave
--[X] Otherwise, just take potshots with your Thermal Spears and Halt what comes at you; refresh as many spears as you can during the downtime
-[X] If they scatter and flee, try shooting down as many as you can before they leave your reach; warn the enforcers as you do

-[X] Once you are done leveling the place, give it another sweep with Juggernaut Wave just to make sure you got all of them
--[X] When that is done, touch down slowly and check in person; be alert and keep Halt ready.

[X] EXP Plan Total Annihilation
-[X] Juggernaut Wave to lv3 (30 EXP)

Bloated, maybe... but I am planning for all the things I can think of.
At level 3, Juggernaut Wave deals 1,000 damage.
Intangible reduces this to 500 and the Skull Wraiths can take 329 at most. Collateral Damage, fluffwise, affects areas the size of a city block. Well aimed, we will get quite a few of them with the blast wave each time. Even if they come up at us, they just lose their cover and make aiming easier.

I decided against Alpha and Omega because it would gobble up Daiyu's shield and might have bad influences on our regular spells.
Plus... there was a ruling in the original Quest, rather recently, that instant kill effects from an entity without a growth Affinity can only affect the Makers (Story Maker, Myth Maker, Legend Maker). As a full Story, we should be immune to their spell anyway.

I think... we can call this payback?

As nice plan Nuke'Em All, I prefer if the Thermal Lances to start bombarding from the edges of the camp then moving inwards towards the centre ,tightening the circle as the ghosts does not scatter when we drop the big one.

Edit:
Naron plan speaks for me, great as ever

[X] Plan Fuck you and Thanks for the EXP
