Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

What's the extent of artificial .... beings? Like for instance I imagine golems are a thing and everyone is ok with that but what about things more advanced taken to the next level? How far could someone go to make the equivalent of a simple V.I that follows orders to an A.I where it will think for itself before mages start freaking out? And how big of a no no are homunculus?

If Una knew we are currently planning to have her obtain an education, what would be her reaction?

How often does Gaia observe her MGs? Is she running commentary?

Mother Status: High as a kite, broke as fuck, a back ally whore

Father Status: Liver problems from drinking, also cause he lost most of his via Cerys, racking up enormous hospital bills, jobless

Awww I wanted a fun family reunion, with them in that state, it isn't even worth it :V

Is it possible to for us to eventually make spells with the infinity affinity, like how our sword has it (I would be guessing it would require some sort of blending of our beginning and end affinities)?

currently that is also my theory on how to use magic to get permanent objects like you implied was possible, a spell with the infinity aspect might be able to create something that doesn't fade away in time, though I am not asking you to actually confirm or deny that is the path. Rather just want to know if us making spells with the infinity affinity is possible or not.

Also last Q&A that the MG with PtV died to a series of bad rolls and the decision to ask the path to "being as happy as possible" (ending in drug overdose), but you also said that you knew how powerful the ability was and that was why she was dead.

Was she always going to die, and the roll was just to determine how much of an impact/how helpful she'll be before she did so?

Golems exist, V.I exist kind of? There are no computer V.I, too new of a development, but there have been Golem V.I or Rune V.I in the past.
A.I have been created before, but not truly sentient beings. So, no homunculus have ever been created.

It would take a great deal of effort to create an A.I. If you find a MG with the Affinity of Life, you would have a lot easier of a time.

Gasp in betrayal dramatically.

Gaia is always watching.

Infinity should be investigated.
But please at least try and discover your affinities first, before you try making spells for them specifically.
She literally couldn't know how to make them.

You are correct for PtV. The roll was for how long she was going to survive for. If she rolled well, you probably would have met her. Not for long, but you would have.
She just... really didn't roll well. She died on DAY 2 of MAGICAL GIRL PATH TO VICTORY QUEST

I see Cerys more then likely just refusing to have anything to do with them and without a doubt never letting Una have anything to do with them. Even if she knew where they were she wouldn't care as long as they never comeback into their live's again
They hurt Una.

*Shrug* I doubt she even cares about them in reference to herself, aside from repressed trauma, but Una?

I take it this is going to be one of the first things we learn about in magic school?
Not really.
As far as I know, humans don't have Affinities.
They probably haven't figured it out yet.

They probably have noticed that MG's seem to conform to a 'theme' as it were

(Can someone check that Human Affinities thing? I'm pretty sure they don't have any by default...)

Do most MGs gain their magic when they're riding the Trauma Train at full speed?

Does Morgan often get bullied by powerful magical creatures?

They do... I think? Okay, the first Affinity every MG has is innate. The second and their growth affinity are gained upon awakening.

Not to mention normal mages wouldn't be a thing without Affinities either in Crystal's more evolved/further along world. Like, literally, we have a guy in our squad that casts magic because he has a Librarian affinity or something.

So yes, humans have Affinities. Whether these Affinities are dormant or not until they might be awakened like more benevolent Nasu-verse Origins is... unknown I guess? @crystalwatcher

Samael Balier is a human male mage that has the library affinity.

It is my belief (though I might need to check) that once a human gains access to their magic they have an affinity.

Just that most humans don't gain access to their magic so most just have affinity N/A

edit: Actually looking at his character page:

"Discovered I was a practitioner when a girl at school started making love potions and selling them for cheep. Got the genius idea to buy one and try using it on a teacher that I had a crush on at the time. Brilliant way to find out she was actually a doppelganger hunting for Magical Girls hiding among the student populous. My magic woke up and burned the entire school down to the ground. Started checking out magic books from the library shortly there after, and not much longer before I found my self signing up with the Counter Force to fight the good fight. Got a little awkward when I also found out my girlfriend - the one selling the love potions in the first place - was actually a succubus. We've been thinking of marrying after my time's up."

Seems like magic is something that is awakened, even in normal mages, and since it was "discovered I was a practitioner" it seems to me to imply that not everyone has the ability to be a practitioner, which kind of runs counter to some things mentioned in this quest so far.

In that case, then yes, you can learn about your Affinities by asking someone.
Karen could do it, if she has the time.

If you are born into a magical family, the act of letting you use magic is such an old tradition that people don't even think about it any more.
It's just another thing that you do when the baby is born, like checking their size and weight.

Bastard magicals have to trigger their magic on their own, if they even know about it.
Which is significantly harder.

Fair enough, answers my confusion on Morgan claiming to have magic since birth.

What is the name of Daiyu's older sister?

(loads of questions I can think of but I kind of don't want to spoil surprises by asking them :V)

You know something I kinda want to do is try taking an alternate approach to healing? I remember an old series of books where there were two kinds of Mage, 'Order' Mages and 'Chaos' Mages.

And the thing about them is that both of these mages were literal. Order mages created order. They favoured black as it represented the order that came from an absence of colour and their magic was literally about imposing order. Aligning, creating, etc.

Chaos mages created chaos, they wore white to represent the chaos of every colour at once and their magic was literally about imposing chaos. Disaligning, unmaking, etc.

An order Mage could create ice by ordering all the water in the air into the necessary crystalline structures, whereas a chaos Mage could create fire by causing all the particles in a patch of atmosphere to move wildly, generating energy in the form of heat as a result. Stuff like that. Conceptual control of order and chaos.

Now thing is both types of Mage can heal.

Order mages do it the obvious way, by knitting things together, pulling tissues and structures back to their proper place. Or strengthening the body against things like disease.

This is obviously not the sort of thing that would come easily to Cerys with our affinity for destruction.

However, a chaos Mage can heal in a different way. They can destroy cancer by burning the cancerous cells out of someone. Same with diseases or infections. They can even cure things like arthritis by unmaking the blockages and stiffness that cause it.

So given our fire affinity, we should maybe consider trying stuff like a chaos Mage could do. It would be a form of healing that actually works with the main forms of our Magic rather than running against it, and could bring us towards a place where we can more easily perform more traditional Order Mage style healing as well.

Cuifen

Ask away, if they are too spoilery I'll just ignore them or give you a boop.

You want to set the inside of someone on fire.
Good luck finding a volunteer.

The One Who Wanders got us Morgan. What would have The One Who Leads and The One Who Follows have gotten us if we had chosen them? What happened to them now that we haven't chosen them?

And a mechanical question: I've noticed in the first post that characters don't roll for defence? They just use their defensive stats for damage reduction. If a person (like Daiyu) uses a shield, do they get to roll dice or is it just defence stats?

Affinity: Beginning | End| Story
[X] Explore the base
-[X] Get Breakfast
[X] Ask for literature
-[X] Specifically, Pratchett

Can we inflict Narrativium upon Roundworld? :V

This is obviously not the sort of thing that would come easily to Cerys with our affinity for destruction.
Our affinities currently appear to be Beginning|End|Story, actually. We could justify damn near anything under those objects.

End wounds. Begin - then End, thus completing it - healing. Go on a quest - so we can tell a sweet Story about it - about breaking somebody's curse or some such nonsense.

It's already a free-form magic system here, based around imagination - if Cerys can wrap her head around the idea, we can probably do whatever we please.

Not certain how the Affinities figure into things quite yet, but the ones we have are broad. They'll fit a lot of things.

Not literally! It would more be very very very finely targeted destruction. We would need an intimate understanding of the inside of their body to pull off specific stuff like cancer or an infection obviously, so magic or a lot of fancy technology would be necessary to even attempt that. But stuff like attempting to conceptually burn a sickness out of someone's body? Destroying each microbe causing the malaise?

We could totally do that with a lot of practice and control.

Like burning the termites without burning the log sort of thing, only a thousand times more granular.

It was The One Who Advances, not The One Who Leads. Not sure why people keep posting Leads instead of Advances.
Regardless, there were two other people you could have met, obviously.

The One Who Wanders got you a partner and potential waifu (I ship all of the Yuri)
The One Who Follows would have netted you a lost little lamb. (I.E new little sister GET!)
The One Who Advances would have netted you Spoilers~

That's just me being a retard at using Crystalwatchers game mechanics.
Please ignore all of the combat stats there.
It's had a through overhaul since then, to the tune of seven hours of work in a row.

Like, really gud.
