Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

[ x ] No – You tell Epoch that you have decided not to help. Any potential mages in the Adepts will be lost to you forever. There won't be any other penalties, though.

[X] Yes – Epoch will call in 8.1, and you'll promise to help the Adepts when things calm down a little. You will keep your word, and I will force the issue if you don't do so quickly enough on your own.

It says something that he's desperate enough to show up to a Behemoth fight just to beg scraps from our table after we've let the issue lie this long. He seems... resentful of having to heal capes, mercenary at best about it... but between this and the repeated emphasis on how much work he's put into clawing scraps of magic to little gain, I'm hoping he's workable. We have a lot of leverage after all, the question is mainly how much they have to lose taking only non-villain mercenary contracts and how high they value magic (and how much more we can convince them they'll be able to charge with all the new toys we might. Seriously, showing him Temporal Sludge and Crescendo will either make him worship at our feet or go utterly berserk, with the synergy and similarity to his power. If he can do a lot and lead a group of mercs with 10 seconds, hows 40 sound?). Wonder if his own Reverse-Time could be a Rare Skill of Support or something, or if the offer of those two (and anything else of the package deal) is enough for him to take it as a fair trade in itself.

Is it metagaming to try and divine info to rely on from SilentlyWatches' promise that refusing to help them won't have any consequences? On one-hand it suggests patience/restraint that he'll walk away and not push the issue... on the other it could simply be that forced teaching isn't likely to pay out much considering the ludicrous risk of bullying a high ranked blaster/mover.

In any case with Beasts and our damaged team, our lack of clear Endbringer Plans beyond "hope for Arc-en-ciel" or "hope Phantasm's Scion-avatar-view? trick lets us hit them for realz" , and everything else coming up, adding one to several potential Capes and Mages to our team could be a serious boost-up. If nothing else Epoch just showed an ability or at least belief (which obviously he had some method he was choosing people by, but this may be real) that he can detect Linker Cores. With his greater ties and experience that could really speed up our finding good ones without wasting our time scanning random masses.

Behemoth fight... sounding pretty dreadful there. I wonder how much difference we could've made . Unshackling Dragon had better pay out in spades if we don't want Players AND Taylor to be buried in guilty second-guessing.

Not much hint as to whats actually happening there, friendly fire is sort've what you expect with Behemoth after all and why we didn't go.

Even if Dragon wins the entire quest single-handed, there'd still be folks complaining about us not going. They've made up their minds.
I'd have liked to hightail it to the Endbringer fight once the Dragonslayers were secured. Tell the PRT "Sorry, we're late for the Endbringer fight. We had to deal with these scumbags violating the Endbringer Truce or we would have already been there, and now we need to teleport there on the double and hope it's not too late for a blaster 9 to make a difference. We'll talk more when Behemoth is defeated", then cast spacial translocation to teleport over there, skipping checking out their lair until after the Endbringer has been taken care of.

Well, a number of us were more worried about Behemoth co-opting those very same attacks that make us a Blaster 9. Or not being keen to know if mana is an energy type that Behemoth is capable of controlling like all the others.

*Sigh* Are you serious...?

You know what? It's been said before and a lot. I'm not going to bother.

Changing subject, while I agree with helping Epoch with magic I'd feel more comfortable if we got assurance from them that they'll stay this side of the law.

How about this. Instead of bringing this whole song and dance up again, we should instead just wait until the AAR next week.

It'll save us a lot of time if we don't start going back and forth on this again.

One thing I wanted to show with Epoch's interlude is that while he isn't EVIL, he is certainly selfish. Whether or not you consider that "workable" is up to you.

All I will say is that if you choose not to affiliate with the Adepts, they will not pester you about teaching them magic again. The whys and wherefores will be elaborated on in a future AAR.

Whether you or anyone else would have liked to do this is irrelevant. I said no, and the GM's word is law. Continuing to bitch about it is a waste of your time and mine.

Interesting way to put it Epoch and his Adepts, as far as "you will swear off any villainous activity and only do approved PMC type jobs" or whatever we impose....

"How much would you be willing to pay for magic tutoring, or assistance devices, or all the other things I can offer you? Might it happen to exactly equal the lost revenue from villain-labeled jobs?"

If they wanna be mercenaries, why not play to that :V (I suppose it changes the obligation pressure if they feel they're paying for it and its not a favor, but with how well even our basic-textbook-dump helped the one Dragonslayer I don't feel too worried it'll be a bother to give their moneys worth?)

Minions!!!!!!

Or more interestingly staring up decent magical knowledge on Earth-Bet. I somehow think this will not make the TSAB terribly happy, but who knows when we will get to see them. I wonder what Epoch with the support mage template would look like....

Why would TSAB be unhappy about it? As long as we arent a out of control Lost Logia or are not trying to conquer the multiverse or something the TSAB could care less as long as they have their lost ship's remains back.

Remember the TSAB is essentially the UN with teeth backed up by its fleets of warships and powerful mages. As long as you arent attacking others or throwing around WMDs they wont intervene unless asked to iirc.

Saying no would drain us of possible allies.

Saying yes might put us at a PTR lecture, since they are considered villains, Not only that, but I am not sure that they are ready to learn our secrets. If they learn, they will come back, yearning for more power. We need to reveal little, but enough that they may learn on their own. A boost, rather than fully helping or teaching them. Any other requests we should turn down. However, if we refuse more lessons, they may use their relations with us against us.
Fully telling them what we know is foolish and will only be used against our allies (other heroes) in the future. We need to establish guidelines. If we are to help you, you stop being legal villains and turn over a new leaf. If they disobey this prime order, They will be harshly disciplined.

We stated that we will help them, but we did not say how much, I believe.

This is a vote for a higher plan, I expect a full subvote next turn.

That would have required us to have taken Purity and or some of the adepts on as mages. It was mentioned earlier that to pull an endbringer into either a teleport or a recursion field you'd need 4 mages working the same effort.

And given what the endbringers are that may end up being a very temporary measure.

Actually TSAB will be terribly happy.
They immediately will ask Adepts to join them and, as QM said, Adepts will agree.
So TSAB will obtain new cannon fodder recruits to bolster their ranks.
And that recruits possess strange Rare Skills, 'parahuman powers', as locals call them, so TSAB will be able to study that phenomenon.
What not to love?
