Yeah. You have 90 BP "free," so you could insert a 250-bp sensor into the space previously taken up by the medium macrocannon. It'll cost 325 BP. But the total cost of that & other repairs will be 925 BP (because you had 600 bp of armor damage and 200 bp of weapons damage, and you're replacing the weapons) That's within the total capacity of your repair bay.
Oh, that's perfect.

@LightLan, @meianmaru, @Execute/Dumbo, per Neablis's answer here if you could edit your plans to change out the repair bay action with:
-[] [Free] Replace damaged medium macrocannon with light anti-stealth sensors and repair all remaining damage (covered by repair bay)

...That'd be excellent. Next time we meet that pirate, we'll be ready for her. >:)

How much would it cost to drop our Repair Bay to 990 BP to give us 100 free BP/an extra module?

I think it's time to start expanding the fleet for a turn or two. No way our ship can have everything in it. It's doesn't have a clown car module yet.

[X] Plan: Woman of Fire and Steel
-[X] [Free] Repair all Damage
-[X] [Free][DATA] The Eldar. More specifically the ones you ran into just now. ...You are dreading what you will find when you open their files.
-[X] Explore: Eldar Webway Gate at Oladeer
--[X] Go after the Drukhari. If they have already escaped, try to find and hire a Corsair or Corsairs at the Webway Gate to bring you the head of Xylaris Moiryth, as well as the taken people and any stolen goods if they are retrievable. If this is not acceptable, try to buy information about Xylaris. Besides this, signal that you are willing to trade later for any kind of interesting technology (next turn Diplomacy action) after this issue has been solved. (Budget for Victan: 250 BP worth of trade goods, negotiable up to an another 250 BP of trade goods on top of that on the next turn).
-[X] Research x3 (600 RP + 65 Anexa RP)
--[X] Ok, maybe there's a point to medical school (45/50 RP -> 50/50 RP)
--[X] Human Simulation Implants (150 RP)
---[X] Anexa 65 RP
--[X] Improved Armor Articulation (50 RP)
--[X] Basic power armor (100 RP)
---[X] Give Cia the prototype armor, if we manage to make a functional one.

--[X] Anexa active Action: Research (Human Simulation Implants)
--[X] Victan active action: Diplomat-Spy (Eldar negotiations if available)
--[X] Active Psyker improvement

EDIT: added 10 RP that I had forgotten to allocate to Advanced Technological Research Lab, we will need that for the DEldar tech samples
I am a bit confused. Are we refitting the space of the armaments with the lab using the repair bay refitting Neablis added? I must have skipped the bit where this part of the plan was clarified.

In any case:
[X]Plan: Woman of Fire and Steel

Oh, a thought - one thing it would be really useful to have automated manufacturies for would be making monitoring installations we could go and leave behind in systems we visit. Though we'd need warp comms, and ideally also better sensors and better stealth to really capitalize on it...

Maybe better machine spirits, so the exploration ships can be sufficiently automated that they don't eat Vita's actions? Let us set up a system to monitor for enemy fleets, at least.

So anyways, I have decided to make a new plan, heavy on write-ins to find some buddies to take down Xylaris and leverage our new upgrades to our bots and sensors (first plan to include actually building them!) as secret weapons by feigning weakness while said hunting buddies wait until she tries engaging again to pin her against us, hammer and anvil style.

Xylaris probably thinks she has this in the bag if she boards again - "just bring weapons made to blast bots", right? By the time she learns otherwise, it'll be too late.

[X] Plan: Hunting Glasses
-[X] THE BIG IDEA: Chasing after Xylaris and her pirates, and finding the webway or eldar to trade with have many required tasks in common! The webway gate is the best place to search for trade partners or Xylaris, and any eldar we can find, we can reasonably try to trade with OR hire to help us find and kill the dark elves. So why not both? This plan puts emphasis on tracking down Xylaris as our plan A, hiring Eldar for their superior mobility and stealth while tying them to us as a trade partner in the process, in such a way that if we make no headway on Xylaris we can still find the webway gate and just do trade as normal. Research priorities are likewise in support of this goal, while completing HSI as first priority for the extra RP.
---[X] Why not just use one action? Because in general, with AP you get what you pay for. The more things you split your AP between, the less effort Vita can spend on each. Using 2 AP for trade+hunting for extra oomph is one of the chief differences this plan has from 3x research plans* like Plan: No longer blind and Plan: Woman of Fire and Steel. Whether that tradeoff is worth it or not is, of course, up to you.
-[X] *At time of writing. Other people's plans are subject to change, read them to know what's in them instead of taking my word for it.

Also, does:

-[] Machine Spirit Shipboard Manufactories (100 RP) The constraints on shipboard manufactories make them different enough that you haven't been able to apply the machine spirit technology to them. (Improves the BP produced by the shipboard manufactory equipment, likely by about 20%. May unlock tech allowing better cramming for ship manufactories).

Apply to the repair bay? If so, it's actually pretty damn good.

For that matter, same question about:

-[] Large-scale Void Manufacturing (100 RP) Unlike ground factories, which have to deal with gravity and atmosphere, there's little stopping you from just... scaling up the principles of void manufacturing. Besides the annoying spaghetti of logistics, but that's a solvable problem. (Allows you to design large void manufactories that are more efficient, improves the manufactories on your ships to be 1/5 instead of 1/10 production. Potential for other void-based platform technologies).

Mostly "No longer blind", but trading out combat researches for additional effort at or around the gate. And importing the sensor refit first vote-ified in "Hunting Glasses".

Good plan, here's a suggestion: add in a comment or two about how she miscalculated. Clarify that we don't so much have goodies, as we have the ability to produce goodies in our manufactories. So there really wasn't anything to loot (except a really fucking big manufactory) until we decide to make stuff to loot.

May not be wise, given they might see us as a threat instead. But... given we're going with the Ancient story here, it's sufficiently implied that I don't think that's more risk.

This DOES assume they're currently present to speak with, though. Might be better to have a backup if that's not so.

I'd also suggest focusing on empathy sensors first... because if they work as I imagine I think we might be able to bypass their stealth. Bit of a gamble there, though.

Added in some language to the "open for trade" diplomacy bullet point to let potential trade partners know that we can make more stuff later, too. Main thrust trade-wise is that if we hire someone to do a counter-raid with us against the dark elves, that's... well, probably a pretty solid foundation for more dealings afterwards, hah.

But of course, them knowing there's more where this came from is a good carrot to make sure they keep that deal.

As far as empathy as sensors goes - I think it's going to be a marginal improvement if it applies to ship-to-ship combat. Better Sensors is the tech that's actually about defeating stealth and that's the equipment that we're going to be building, and it's not clear that the warp sensors are something that can be put into the same equipment in the first place. I think the main reason it might help with finding the webway gate is just because the gate itself is rather warp-y in function.

But just to be sure - @Neablis , if you could clarify whether or not Empathy as Sensors would help in an engagement and if the anti-stealth sensors would benefit from it?

More importantly though, while I expect the anti-stealth sensors to benefit us tremendously once we're in combat, I do not expect them to let us just stop all boarding altogether, and once any of them are on, they're going to be using weapons that are actually effective against our bots this time - that's the main reason I think Xylaris can be baited in the first place!

So once some boarders (hopefully less) are inside, we have to be ready to repel them more effectively. Combat Machine Spirits are the single most impactful thing we can get for this, as they apply to all our bots - it's indispensable for a plan where we act as bait.

Which, if it wasn't clear, yes: Plan: Hunting Glasses absolutely entails acting Vita acting as bait for the dark elves because we can become so much more effective against them before we meet again, while allied Eldar ships can stay hidden until Xylaris is committed. That's the trap, the hammer and anvil that will crush the pirates.

And with HSI being an auto-pick, by process of elimination that means Empathy as Sensors doesn't make the cut.

I like the write in ideas, it's an entertaining approach to try and fight eldar with eldar.
They're faster than us and stealthier than us, and have had an axe to grind for longer. It just makes sense!

Something else, if it wasn't clear - Victan will handle the details since secret squirrel shit is his jam, but I expect us to get a hail from any eldar we "find" before they actually reveal themselves. From there, we can negotiate the deal and use a stealth shuttle to transfer the down payment without Vita ever outwardly appearing to be contacting anyone at all.

I'm also currently waffling on whether to, for example, have Vita repair the ship in such a way that it looks like it's still damaged, even though it very much isn't. Doing it during the actual repairs might be a problem because then we'll look bad to anyone we hire - we have to convince them we're strong for them to go on a hunt with us, after all.

But scuffing it up on purpose after making the hire risks the entire ruse being found out by Xylaris ahead of time. Not worth the risk, I think.

Maybe we could make the new sensor package replacing that macrocannon look like a repair that didn't replace it with anything at all? I kinda doubt it though.
