[X] You will send them a polite communication detailing the particulars of your agreement with FCNY and the needed modifications to USA.PLC's offering at the CDE. You will then politely ignore the sounds of heart palpitations echoing from across the Atlantic Ocean and over the Appalachian Mountains and get on with the business of the Seven-Year Plan. USA.PLC will probably be unhappy, but they had to have understood that there was a risk they didn't win this bid. Right?

Politeness is the key.

They screwed around, but we want a reputation as professional in our deals.

[X] Mayor Mesba has calmed down enough that she wants heads. You're going to give her the chance. You are going to invite a delegation of high-ranking representatives from USA.PLC to a meal before the CDE commences, and without telling them, you are also going to invite Mesba to that dinner as well. USA.PLC will still probably attend the CDE -- because, and it cannot be emphasized enough, everybody is so incredibly fired and a cushion is likely desired -- but it is...passing unlikely that they'll be interested in a continuing relationship with the Commonwealth if you take this path. On the plus side, you'll get the very personal gratitude of FCNY's government.

I want a reputation of going to bat for our allies.

I think trying to politely maneuver through the middle ground is a trap here and we should just commit to the fact that we've ruined our relationship with USA.PLC.

Whew. First things first, from a lurker back when this was all kicking into high gear, glad to have you back! Second, while I've not dug too deep into our internal stats, I don't think we can fully accept the FCNY's demand, much as it pains me to do even without knowing the actual situation there. We know we are first on the chopping block of a revanchist Victoria...
Uh, I know this comment is from a while ago, but I feel compelled to point a few things out.

1) Any rational-ish attempt at Victorian strategy (and Gideon Blackwell is mostly rational) must take into account that New York is a huge thorn in Victoria's side if there is a systematic uprising of American powers against Victoria.

2) Whereas Victoria would need to launch a large scale campaign requiring extensive logistical support just to reach the core territories of the CFC, which has deep layers of territorial buffers through which it can fall back while remaining viable as a state... New York is right there and could plausibly be crippled by a single (admittedly brutally meat-grinding) offensive.

I don't think it's actually TRUE that we have any certainty that Victoria will attack the CFC first and New York second; New York has very reasonable concerns that the temporary pause in their rearmament campaign will see the Victorians go "hey, maybe we should just attack New York before they finish loading up on more firepower" literally any day now. Because frankly, the Vicks would be right to do exactly that if they're trying to figure out a way for all this to end well for them. It does NOT end well for them if New York turns into a heavily armed fortress that's sitting there at the southern extreme of their territory even as they face the CFC integrating a lot of the stuff within striking distance of their western border.

On top of this... I haven't read up on all that's happened since Poptart dropped the update on December 18th, I just haven't had time. But my honest impression is that USA.PLC is doing something really dumb here. Something that gives them a reputation for breaching a contract in a way that badly screws over someone who's already paid them a lot of money. I'm not sure we'd even WANT to do business with them under the circumstances. Because if New York can't trust them to actually finish shipping an order they've already contracted for, then we can't trust them to, say, actually go on shipping us the spare parts they agree to ship us.

Maybe this has been addressed and I'll catch up on it, but really, we should just not be poaching munitions out from under a FCNY contract. And hell, we shouldn't be able to, under the circumstances, for the same reason that if you sign the papers to buy a car and write the dealer a check, then when you show up the next day to pick up the car they can't just tell you "so sorry, we got a better offer." That shit can happen before the deal is finalized, but if it happens after, you're not dealing with serious professionals who deserve to be trusted.

Reminder to everyone that Minnesota is about to be a problem, as Minneapolis wants to pick a fight with Bemidji, and is instituting a draft.

We might need arms *NOW* to deal with the conflict happening on our Ally's doorstep rather than when Victoria feels they can maybe attack FCNY.
Re this, I'm pretty sure we can handle the situation in Minnesota with the stuff we've got. Unlike Victoria, we're not worried about Minneapolis being heavily supplied by foreign arms manufacturers. About the worst probable case of what Minneapolis is packing would look like Toledo, I think, and we absolutely could have handed the Toledoans their heads if they were fighting us alone.

I believe that the gratitude of the FCNY is worth more to us in the long run than the gratitude of one of the world's many arms manufacturers. We can figure something out to get us the armaments, especially since there's a fair chance (as noted) of USA.PLC's management cadre being so gutted that everyone who holds a grudge against us for burning the existing cadre is themselves out of the picture and it's now a nationalized arm of the EU or something.

Fine have changed my mind guess the eu can deal with this incident for not keeping a good eye on them in the first place.

I do think it sets an important precedent within revivalism to declare that one revivalist American polity cannot be turned against another revivalist American polity by a multinational corporation... even a corporation that claims to be helping us.

eh I'd argue the reason to not go with this option is less to make the USA PLC "like us" and more establishing "reasonableness" on the world stage.

By working with the FCNY last turn we showed that that we're not going to betray our partners or do anything to untoward. By being evenhanded this turn we can show we are not going to go overboard in retaliation and are somewhat willing to work with people who sometimes do untoward things.

In an ideal world we shouldn't have to work with such people but this is definitely not an ideal world. The CLC doesn't have the most options as is and I fear if we push the PLC too far we'll gain some favour with New York at the cost of closing off a lot of those potential options.

tldr The world and specifically this world is filled with scummy corpos. We have already declined to play their game. If we go scorched earth on them then I fear they'll never work with us in any capacity and I don't think the CFC has enough options at the moment that they can throw away those that are fine except for the fact that they deal with somewhat unsavoury business people.

edit just to make it clear there is a line somewhere where I would argue we just have to say no we won't deal with you, screw you. Personally, I don't think it's here though.

We didn't burn bridges with the first decision, I don't see why we would with the second

Honestly, I don't know if this the right move on Mesba's part, but New York is the one American power the companies we want are used to dealing with, and she can turn the screws on USA.PLC whether we help her or not. This just lets her make her point more personally.

When it comes to the conference they're going to be a lot more desperate for any deal they can make with us, considering this, which should mean a better deal than we'd otherwise get on anything FCNY doesn't veto.
