On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] Will.

I don't want to read Snori trying to bleed himself enough to pass the trial. If a small amount of blood isn't enough, he's stubborn enough to make himself bleed to the point he gets seriously hurt.

As far as I can tell these test reveal more about us than the creator, with Adamant being there certainly narrows it down for me.
(X) Blood. Feels to violent to me, yes it is the essence of what runecraft is, magic flowing through us as seams through stone. Yet we've seen what happens when it was pushed too far, we were damaged, likened to a volcano. Thungi wouldn't expect his heirs to mimic the gori or Fimir, tainting what should be noble with that. Of course what is more powerful than a willing sacrifice?

(X) an Item, too common and easy in my mind. Even a masterpiece or legendary item would go against the spirit of this act. This is an act of creation, not destruction.

(X) Will.
This one has my vote. It is what makes a runesmith, what separates them from mages. We are not bound to the whims of the winds, or the dangers of it. We enforce our will onto these flighty things and create something lasting, no quick effect, no spell but a rune that can last as long as there is magical power in it. Thungi carved the glittering realm from the aethyr (pet theory) He brought magic to his people, showed the wonders that could be crafted with it. No base magic like the gori or deamons. But also a force for good for the dawi people. How do they do this?
WILL. Power unending brought into the exacting circumstances and shaped by our will into this. Thungi and his descendants are craftsmen, artists of the highest caliber and will is our paintbrush. An act of creation is what is needed.

We are Dawi, no some Zhuf-casting fools.
You don't jump to bloodmagic for no reason, I think.

[X] Coal

We are Dwarf-Santa, so obviously we have some coal in our pockets.

[] [Fuel] BEARD!

A sacrifice with meaning. It symbolizes our accumulated knowledge and experience; the essence of runcrafting. Also it shows that before the wisdom of the ancestors we are but a beardless newborn. Also it burns and would therefore feed the flames rather than douse it as blood would do.

Be brave. Cut the beard.
I see.

So Thungni has fallen to chaos.

[X] Blood

I think the dragon gronti being there is too big of a clue to ignore, considering that dragon blood was necessary to turn gromril into adamant.

Could it be a reference to the fact that IIRC the most powerful runes require dragon fire to forge?

I'm not saying it would give an easier trial. I'm saying there may be other, harder ways to pass this trial that Snorri didn't even have to look for or think about because he had the right gear to make it irrelevant.

I'm also saying that if specific gear is required, it would be fair, that it would be something that the riddle's list of runes hinted at. Fire resistance would be a fair requirement when fire was on the rune list.

We can't channel magic, so we can't channel Aqshy into the fire anyway.
If we're walking into the challenge of Fire, I think fire can be anticipated.
I don't think it's about what Thungni wants in terms of a message or trial of character. I think it's a trial of skill to see if the runesmith can work out what the secret ingredient is to turn adamant into glimril from the likely hint of the dragon being present.
None of the trials so far have required Snorri to work out how to break the rule of three. Or anything similarly difficult.
Looking back, you really have to wonder if half of this entire experience's purpose was just for Thungni to prod or introduce the test-taker to some of his own breakthroughs without making it too easy. Breaking the Rule of Three, spatial manipulation, multiple Gronti being controlled by possibly a single Rune, and wielding enough power to either lock down or gutter out your armour's freakishly persistent supply of energy.

here Thungni is, casually doing what those myriad foes could not and reminding you there is always more of the mountain to scale.
This feels more like how Grungni delivered the Gromril Chain challenge.
Pointing out that the impossible has been done before and challenging us to do it as well.
Because I believe that fully refined glimril is purest white , not silver.

What we're seeing is the silver of the intermediate stage when it's still a form of adamant. It says 'even purest white', the even tells us that it's somehow more than the brilliant silver, which we know is more like the appearance of adamant. In the gromril mines we saw the potential for both adamant (silver) and glimril (white).
Ehhh, its not Adamant, Snorri would have recognised and described it as Adamant.

If its not Glimril then I don't think saying that this is an intermediate step after Adamant really changes anything except how deep the metal tech tree will be.
