And I also would like that, but if we're going to take on the monsters I would like to stack the deck in our favor as much as we can and the Choir knowing a Melody useful for combat could help with that
Well not just any psyker, a very specific kind of mutant psyker.
That is for real Navigators.
To make our own version requires the following 6 Psykana melodies for our (normal) psykers to count as trained:

- United States
- Pronouns
- He/Him

Right now we are basically marooned in our system without navigators or a navigator replacement. Even if we could replace navigators with scuffed psyker's there is the issue that psyker's are 1 in a million and the majority of psyker's are wyrds that can only manage cantrips while still being just as unstable and vulnerable as normal psyker's. We will always suffer a crippling lack of psykers and that lack will only get far worse if we need them to engage in ftl travel at all.

This is a very good point. There are 79 celestial bodies, three inhabited worlds, and 203 shipwrecks in system. It's going to be quite a while before we've really gotten a handle on our home system.

Kinda. It would be better if you had a Big E simulacrum to route your gps/sms through for better reception than "that thing over there," while crossing fingers that the Choir on the other side (for messages) is currently on a "recieving" mode.
Your Icono bonus is part of that, but also a calming of the Warp occurs in areas of heavy worship.
That's my bad, but you'd need a Choir for every ship to reap the same/similar effects as a Void Abacus. To remind you, a Choir is Five Psykers.
