Springtime of Nations II: A European Republic Quest

September 23: The British Foreign Office offers to mediate the Austro-German dispute, but is rebuffed by both sides. The Western Entente thereafter declares neutrality.
Interestingly, the Austrians seem to be as uninterested in peace as we are. One has to wonder what exactly they think is going to happen, and what they hope to gain from it...

I don't think refusing Anglo mediation is necessarily the same as wanting peace - the Austrians could just not be interested in giving the Sasannach the chance to dictate to them.

My main fear with Case Arquebus is that it doesn't seem to have a clear goal in mind other than 'win some battles' and putting pressure on a very, very wide set of fronts. Sure, maybe we could win a bunch, but does this have strategic coherence? Would it lead somewhere useful?

That's why I like Case Eagle - it has a clear, definite goal, and even if it runs into problems it can scale back or redirect that goal as needed.

I think it's more a recognition that it's going to be extremely hard to make substantial gains before winter sets in. We're attacking in October, after all. Better to bite off what we can and make it that much harder for any counterattack to dislodge us than reprise the NatGov.

tbh part of my not voting for eagle is that I worry once Austria is done peace might happen before we can crush Russia and Scandinavia

[X] Case Arquebus

I think a push on Austria is generally good but this makes a better use of the marinewehr and I think it's a more reasonable ask on our allied forces than having them make a full push into Austria (we know that went very poorly for Italy OTL).
