Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
[X] There is an abandoned manor on a southern baron's lands left behind during a post Ogodei invasion which he would like exorcised and demolished.

More Ogodai lore would be nice, however I feel the mine gives Qian a fair shot to show off in his (family's) field of expertise.

[X] There is an old mine in the east which needs both checking for renewed deposits and cleared of spirits and wildlife.

On the topic of romance prospects, how do we, the thread, feel about the guy? Good relations with him has and will continue to open up opportunities, but... eh. Personally, i'm not a big fan of him treating Ling Qi as a business/political opportunity. Between that and how infrequently Ling Qi interacts with him, he feels quite distant, and bridging that gap's going to take some effort from both sides. It's kinda natural that it's this way given the circumstances and how his clan is, but...

They can work well as a partnership I suppose. He complements her abilities and knowledge nicely. But there's very little romance or attraction so far. Maybe that's the best Ling Qi can accept right now. You might think Ling Qi could still invite a hot muscly Valet to her bedchamber (like all the other nobles do) but Ling Qi will never do that. Using her power over her servants for That is a taboo for her. So I hope Ling Qi gets into that phase of her life before she marries Bao Qian.

Did Ling Qi finish WHR and UGM? There were no Insights from those yet. What's her Insight status now?

A mine would probably show us more of his strengths

Harsh winter being predicted, and some viscouties are asking Hanyi to sing for them in hopes of milder winter.
If the counties who are now hiring giving offerings to Hanyi have even slightly noticeably better winter, her career cult is about to take off like a rocket.

Individual aside, the politics are complicated, and we don't have the full picture.

The Bao are a wealthy count clan with a focus on trade. Marrying a scion of the clan gives us access to a lot of contacts in a way that would be difficult to replicate otherwise and gives us a ready-made agent to assist in clan administration in these areas. However, it's important to realize this inescapably offers the Bao significant influence over the growth and nature of Ling clan trade relationships. Making use of the advantages these potential ties to them offer cedes influence in those matters to them specifically, basically by definition.

Close ties or cooperation with any established clans, frankly even Viscounts, carry these risks. The administration gap between established, hundreds-or-thousands-strong clans and what we'll be operating with should not be underestimated. It is an overwhelming difference in capabilities that personal badassitude can only really make a dent in.

Another factor with the Bao courtship is potentially their longterm plans and how things turn out in failure states. One of the big reasons the Bao are interested in marrying a kid into the Ling clan is because the Ling, and Ling Qi especially, are direct vassals to the Cai. Having pull with the Cai heir's(even a fake baby heir) left hand woman is useful. But... there's broad skepticism at the Cai remaining as viable leaders of the province, given how absolutely tiny their clan is.

In the case the Cai implode, the Bao would have strong arguments to pull in the Ling, if there was a marriage tie. But that could potentially extend to land claims in the south. The Ling are going to be establishing themselves in the southern regions of the province, which is somewhere the Bao don't have an excess of direct stakes, as far as we know. Finaggling the Ling as some kind of branch-family outpost in the south would offer the traders a concrete foothold in the south, and that's not a wholly implausible outcome in the case the Cia bite it.

My suspicion is the Bao are pursuing whole bundles of opportunities with their interest in us simultaneously, including contingencies for situations we're kind of in trouble. That's not a mark against the Bao per se. Hedging bets is their business.

Zhengui's take on geological renewal should be fascinating! Kudos to @veekie for the thought.

Bao Qian gets to show off what he knows and Ling Qi gets to learn some things that may well be useful in the establishment of her own domain.
