Is higher realm physical body good counter for Ling Qi semi-liminal physique? She needs to stay rooted in the material world or she'll lose her family for dreams.

Please don't go to a haunted house for your date. That's such a cliche. Ugh. I want to see pretty shiny dwarf caves for once. Not more boring ghosts.

Gu Tai was the first option tho 😅
^^^^ Beaten /fistshake

Uh excuse me the first option is living his best life in the desert with his crow buddy getting shown up by xanxia Lara Croft
But he isn't the first?

Hell, if you count Xuan Shi, sir Bao is the third husbando (not counting Meizhen the waifu) to try their luck against Mt. Qi.

Edit: Oh sheet I forgot about Meizhen. Dishonor on my cow.
Meizhen was never a romantic option for the quest. That event was an important character moment, yes, but was never going to result in romance.
Xuan Shi, he got a comedy act. He's not taken seriously for romance: like Meizhen, Ling Qi more or less directly shoots him down.
Gu Tai requires somewhat more explanation but he wasn't actually treated as a romantic option. He was treated as a route option, and disregarded because he wasn't the first route option. The marital aspect of that route was painted both instory and inthread as a negative (which, to be fair, it was for that-point Ling Qi).
I am fully aware of Gu Tai existing. : / I was a great fan of him and his route. And he, unlike Bao Qian, never appeared except when the thread deigned to throw him an action to 'make it fair' after spending far more actions on Cai and Cai accessories. But while I can't say that the thread being down on him would disqualify him as a romantic option, I can say that the story being down on him would disqualify him. You cannot call a character with whom both the viewpoint character and the narration suggests involvement would be a bad thing a true romantic option.

Unlike all of these, Bao Qian appears without any prompting from the questors as far as I can read, and otherwise benefits from first-mover (and the allure of money). I'm glad yrsillar is in some way accounting for how quest players play heavy favorites but less glad that I see certain things repeating. There are distinct formal differences in how BQ has been treated that are very different from any of the suggested previous characters. Certainly Ling Qi has gone through significant character change in order to reach the point of being able to seriously entertain a suitor (surely this is immediately apparent), and so naturally the narration is less hostile. Nevertheless it remains that the way the quest structure itself treats this character is fundamentally different.

I do appreciate that yrsillar can't reaaaaaaally fabricate romantically-potent characters completely out of thin air, but when the QM did go to the effort to create one active suitor and then entirely...stops...that kind of gives that single active suitor a certain inevitability. I don't know how you can deny the structural advantages that Bao Qian has and will continue to have in the marital race. In a story it's not as much of a problem for there to be a single love interest for some time and then the introduction of another later. And this quest does become more storylike as time goes on. But it remains a quest, and the number of scenes and the construction of those scenes that a character gets is highly influential to the decisionmaking of voters.

Ling Qi is in odd position romantically.
On one hand, she is a (head of a) new baron clan, unlikely to last, not worth sending a good son to her.
On another hand, she is direct vassal of the Cai and retainer of the heir, trying to just absorb her into your clan might be seen as enroaching into Cai territory, and sending a bad son to her might be seen as insulting.

The Bao did the damn near unthinkable, a count clan sending a talented son to marry into a new baron clan, and if it works out, it will be a major win for them.
Also, remember that Ling Qi hitting green happened quite recently in universe, marriage negotiations take time, even deciding to have marriage negotiations takes time, Bao Qian being here is a deviation from what should be expected from clan politics, and our marriage is clan politics.

In short, the Bao saw a (potentially) good thing and want in on it at ground floor while competition has barely even noticed the opportunity exists, and are willing to take a risk to do so.

Better than overcrowding, not only because of the quest format, but also because Ling Qi can barely even handle 1 suitor at a time. It is an aspect of herself that she intentionally made as tiny as she could, which she is now only slowly starting to test expanding up on.

Instead of blaming the quest format, it is better to blame LQ's character instead. In this case, she treats romance similar to politicing/socializing with nobles. Something she prefers to avoid yet must do in spite of the many other things she considers more worthwhile or productive.

"Nah, it was kinda dumb to think that they'd be like Momma just because they were born from winter too," Hanyi replied, resting her chin in her hands. She'd undone the ties in her hair at some point, and so her silvery hair hung down to her shoulders fluttering lightly despite the violent wind.
Hanyi stood as well, and Ling Qi realized something. She didn't know if it had happened all at once, or if it had been ongoing, but… Hanyi had grown. She was taller than Suyin now, only a bit shorter than Meizhen. Her face still had some childish roundness too it, but she could also see more of Zeqing in her features.

"Hm, you know, I think I want to try something different than braids," Hanyi said absently.
Hanyi has finally let go, accepted her loss and thus is evolving.

Biyu is gonna be so confused.

Could do with learning some of Bao Qian's family side of things. This IS their specialty.
Also curious how Zhengui would interpret geological renewal.
