Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
"...No," Xuan Shi said. "This one has reason to inquire after the existence of the Storm folk and their witches, who appeared in the first two volumes, that is all."
This really makes me think that Xuan Shi's mom is a storm witch. That would explain why Zhengui smells something fishy about him.

We need to ensure that Xuan Shi is going into his fairy tale plan eyes 100% wide open. But not right now. Let him talk.

I agree, definitely points at Xuan Shi at least believing his mother to possibly be reflected in the stories he read.

"Dreams change," Xuan Shi said. "Nature is not the whole of things. Thy master knew this, and wrote it."

"Stories are stories," grunted the sword. "He was wrong. You are a fool. You cannot change your nature once your path has begun."
This also seems to relate to Xuan Shi's feelings on his lineage, possibly also the chances of his father returning home from journeying. If a sword saint can turn to exploration and authorship, can a vagabond turn to home? Kind of thing.

[] Interrogate the spirit. Quietly so as not to interrupt Xuan Shi's conversation. Kongyou is obviously up to no good, you need to figure out what they're up to.
I agree Kongyou is obviously up to no good, but I disagree we need to figure out what they're up to. Sure, "enjoying their human" is going to involve messing with them to a degree, but so what? Lots of spirits are extremely dangerous, and working with them is a managed risk. I'm not sure Xuan Shi has the tools to handle Kongyou safely, but I don't sure that he doesn't, either.

This does seem like the most reliable damage control, at least in the immediate. Plus, it's funny for Ling Qi to pretend like she's the adult in the situation.

I acknowledge that this is, bluntly, not a good time for this conversation.

But I think it's an important one for Ling Qi to have, and I don't think we're going to be in contact enough with Xuan Shi to have it later.

Trust him to know what he's doing.
"Xuan Shi, that thing is a nightmare spirit," Ling Qi hissed.

He blinked at her. "This one knows that."
"Hmph, bold child," the sword said. "But foolish. You know what that thing is yet harbor it all the same."

"Dreams change," Xuan Shi said. "Nature is not the whole of things. Thy master knew this, and wrote it."

As if on cue, Xuan Shi spoke. "This is a truth. In the latter half of the series, this ones favored tales were when the crew was trapped by the storm god on the open sea, and the incident with the nightmare trickster."
The enormous dork:
-Knows he's dealing with a nightmare trickster
-Wants to reenact his favorite story where they redeem a nightmare trickster

Now, whether he'd succeed is another matter, but he's a ducal scion of the clan with the best defenses. If he thinks he can take em I see no reason to doubt his word.

More importantly, the whole thing will distract from the main scene focusing on Xuan Shi and his ideals contrasted against the sword. I don't want to fuck that up for a sideshow.

I absolutely don't trust Kongyou, but if they are manipulating Xuan Shi then pressing the issue here and now would only play into their hands. Better to wait and watch in case they give us proof of manipulation that we can actually work with.

Yeah, best not to bicker on legendary slasher grandpa's lawn when he just told us to knock it off.

But we definitely need to have real talk with the punk ass nightmare later.

Xuan shi is right that spirits are unware / uncaring of human frailty / manners and are dangerous even without intending harm.
I mean during our 1st tag game, Hanyi was either unaware or uncaring that her antics could m have crippled LQ. Zequing's surprise blizzard test put the fear of death into LQ; and she was like, but that's how learn. The moon party / moon booze could've left us catatonic.

But Kongyu used a type of compulsion to make us hurt ourselves for her pleasure. And I think it was her plan all along to draw the shishigui to Byan Ya. She was involved in decision to use the song beacon and hankering for a desperate last stand.

Add in today's smug smarmy-ness... spanking deserved.

Xuan Shi's a big boy. He can handle himself. His relationship with his nightmare spirit isn't anything to be worried about.

I am gonna agree with the comparison to Frog and Scorpion parable here. Kongyou was doing as was her nature, as long as Xuan Shi knows that, what he gets up to with his spirit is his business, not LQ's.

And with regards her nature, I would like it noted that Sixiang was formed specifically for the purpose of meeting LQ (and also from Qi's dreams?), Konyou (presumably) wasn't for Xuan Shi. She existed independently before the Underground incident.

Moth was the other option of potential spirit to bring home out of that party. Kongyou looks like and is described like a moth here in this physical realm.

The nightmare spirit isn't beyond being changed. Remember our yuki-onna teacher. She was a being of loneliness and death that had a baby and gave life, taught; it eventually broke her, but that's because it was such a large change - doesn't need large in this nightmare case. And this kind of change seems to be pretty common with cultivator spirits, so its not like Xuan Shi can't aim for it.

Personally, I fully support the boy, even if its something personal to Ling Qi.

I wonder if the nightmare spirit in it's attempts to derail and re-shape Xuan Shi will end up re-shaped itself. Perhaps they'll both influence each other. I kind of want to see what kind of development the nightmare spirit will have if Ling Qi doesn't try to meddle here.
