Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Now, I don't at all believe that Yrsillar would include a deliberate trap option, but it would be kind of funny if we let Hanyi talk and she proceeds to somehow fuck things up to a ridiculous level.

Decline is banned most likely by the Heart Demon and the Loneliness Domain Integration.

So, I've been wondering, what exactly is the loneliness part of Ling Qi's domain all about? I didn't really follow the vote and discussion at the time, so I'm kind of unsure about the specifics and implications.

Like, I get that loneliness was a very large part of who she was before the quest began, but what's the point of making it a fundamental part of her very being going forward? She's not exactly a social butterfly, but she has, arguably, four immediate family members she didn't have pre-quest as well as a couple very close friends and a good handful of lesser friends and allies.

I think I remember something about the rational being that she should embrace her past or that she is still largely informed as a person by her past, but eh... I just seems weird to focus on a negative quality that she has made great strides moving on from. It would be like a cultivator that regularly got hit by their father make "taking beatings" a part of their domain.

Regardless, it was chosen. My main question was how it will affect Ling Qi going forward since I'm not all that on top of Domains/Ways and their implications.

[X] Let Hanyi speak her mind, she is technically the one receiving an offer.

Probably better to let her speak considering everything.

Tho I doubt and would seriously considering it weird if she accepted. She got her music and concerts back in the empire and more stuff going on. Only way it would happen is if Hanyi went full kid not thinking about consequenses... and we have seen that she is smarter and more insightful then we give her credit for. Like with her "dad".

Or if Yrs is trying to trim the cast herd again like he did with Xiulan. Which would be...

My read is that it has a lot to do with motivation. By forever embracing the past she lived through, Ling Qi will always know why she choose the way she's taking. Why she is helping her family, why she is connecting with the people around her. Loneliness defines Ling Qi because loneliness is something that she doesn't want to experience again.

"It is possible yes," Ling Qi said slowly. "Emissary Jaromila, honored Voice. To avoid confusion, what is a mantle, by your understanding?"

"It is the concept of self and being which composes the form of an ephemeral spirit and which a human my learn to wear and change to fit themselves," Jaromila replied.

"It is what one becomes as they leave humanity behind. As I have begun, as Iron-Crow-whose Wings-are-Wide has reached completion," The Voice rumbled, gesturing to the chamber around..
Huh if a spirit wearing the mantle can live on past the human wearing it dying... that would explain how rigid their society is in social norms. Basically the mantle system isn't allowing a human to live longer, but rather for a spirit to be born from their death that can carry on what society currently expects of them.

I suspect Hanyi has an idea - her budding Way so far is that of a wandering spirit after all, visiting here for one purpose and there for another.

Ling Qi fell silent, looking down at her feet. This strange iron mountain had been a man then?

"Huh, is that why you feel different from the caldera Miss Jaromila?" Hanyi spoke in her stead. "You seemed a lot meaner then."

"I was attuned to a mantle for war at the time, yes," Jaromila said, distractedly.

"You mean to say that you can just… change your Way at will?" Ling Qi asked, that seemed terribly unfair.
Hmm, seems like it resembles Great Spirit ascension for lower tiers? You merge into the identity of your Mantle and change them a bit as a result? Or do you imprint a Mantle and then grow into its full magnitude in a new place?

That suggests that at the upper tiers of cultivation, Mantles should be greatly limited. Theres only so many high grade Mantles available.

Given how many different cultivation methods we have been seeing I want to try and nail down what all the commonalities are. What is the same regardless of methord.

  1. Everyone should have a Dantian. This is inbuilt into the human condition even mortal that have never cultivated have one.
    1. It therefor follows that the first realm is mostly the same for all method we have seen. Fill Dantian.
  2. All cultivation styles seem to have clear realms. I expect that this is connected to the Dantian.
  3. Everyone agrees that humans are different then spirts at least at the lower realms.
    1. However bonds with spirts seems to be a major part of every cultivation style we have seen. Although Imperial can in theory go without a spirt binding it is helpful.
I thought that there would be more.

Even Dantians aren't universal. In Khusan they cultivate their Chakras and in Khem they have 5 souls they cultivate.
