Given the way the choice is introduced, it's not clear to me that Ling Qi will still touch the magic tapestry if she convinces herself there is no need to touch it. I believe she probably will turn her back on it. And she must touch the tapestry.
I suppose I'm less uptight about the possibility of her using a genealogical connection to the Tsu as a third pillar (in addition to the patronage of the Cai and her own personal power) on which to base her House's legitimacy. It would help her establish warmer relations with the Houses that cherish that sort of connection to the past like the Meng and Luo. I don't think she's going to turn into another snooty noble just because she's willing to use this info to her advantage when it can help her or her House in the future. It's a potentially useful tool, not a part of her self-definition.
