Ah yes, we had a bit of discussion on discord; I was going for the basic Chinese halberd, the 'Ge'. But others made good points re: if they are elite soldiers geared by ShenHua, the weapons should be less pedestrian-looking and more fantasy-badass! Will take another poke at it maybe later

The idea of 'They'll get their buffstacks up" is sound... But it's also limited because they can't obviously be preparing for battle or the prey would scarper. They're feral, not retarded or they'd have starved to death. And only an idiot walks into a gallery of spiders who are actively pumping up buffchains. Which suggests that they're not going to just buff up and smugly expect us to walk in. Which means that they're counting on their traps to buy time to do so.
Traps which cannot work against two key players of our group because we cannot have our mobility removed by anything less than a Cyan, and anything that tries to hamper us is pushing very far uphill for dubious results. If they try to cloud our mind it straight up bounces off of everyone but Xia Lin as a Domain Effect.
Simply put, the advantage is very much in our court, and I want to see what tasty bait they try to put out to entice us to walk into a trap that can't actually work on us unless we're dealing with a Fourth Realm in here. In which case they are not going to be impressed by an imperious demeanour.
Remember, we win by Being Ling Qi, not by being Cai Renxiang or Bai Meizhen. And not by cowering at the corner. If we can't walk into a bunch of feral spiders and trick them out of their secrets and valuables, then what have we been doing all this time?

Your argument is that the spiders are feral and I don't know if I agree with that. Your main piece of evidence towards this theory is the fact that the formations are unmaintained. I don't know if unmaintained formations equals a feral population. The only spirit beasts that seemed to have anything to do with formations are the dragons. I don't remember any other spirit beasts doing anything with formations. I don't know if spirit beasts can maintain formations. We've never heard of a spirit beast carving new formations, or working on maintaining an existent formation.
While there is definite possibilities that spirit beasts can create and maintain formations, we have no evidence for it. So using unmaintained formations as proof of the spiders being feral isn't a strong argument to me. We just don't know.
In this chapter Hui formations were mentioned to be complicated. If Ling Qi was tasked with maintaining a failing set of Hui formations I don't think she could. Does this mean that Ling Qi is feral? Stating that a piece of complex machinery failing is proof of feral spiders doesn't sit well with me.

I mean, we need to define what is meant by "feral". A lot of "feral" spirits are fully capable of talking and stuff. So does feral mean "dumb beasts unable to interact with people" or does it mean "unaligned with any particular human faction"?
LQ could probably be considered pretty feral when she was on the streets, at least by the standards of this fictional world even if not RL.

That statement was a hyperbolic statement to show how unimpressed I am with the idea that unmaintained formations means the spiders are feral.
Hui spiders have renegotiated contracts with the Cai. If we cow these spiders into doing the same that is both quite a feather in our cap and access to powerful formations for imperial troops in the area.
If they don't get cowed then they end up dead just like option three leaves them.
