Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Mmm, the corresponding argument for cultivating with dress could be essentially treating it as more like Lark, and trying to really capitalise on the potential synergy between them for a more symbiotic art?

Otoh, I feel like that sorta still makes more sense to pursue after we've done the initial training on our own (even if, yes, that is kinda undermining the purpose of this vote).

Additionally, from a traditional Xianxia trope pov, neglecting your foundation is a bad thing.

I can see where the synergy could come from. Mechanically, it would mean the dress eats the Art Bonus. Its like one of those, you become what you eat things. Except the dress is eating concepts and cultivation techniques. But is it something that will LQ think of though?

I guess the choice comes down to choosing whether we want Dress-Chan to be more of a Windy/Grinning Moon type or we want to incorporate that into LQ herself. I am alrady biased, but I think even here the argument favours going for the art bonus instead of the dress.

Oh. Oh, this is nice.

I'd had a worry about WHR, and how it could go wrong by defining tribes, in-group and out-group, but seeing this does a lot to relieve me.
Very glad we slotted HDW - given the repeated mention of connections, that's what saved us here.

Not sure what to think about the dress - I think if it would cause the dress to be more Wind Thief-like I'd vote for it, but I suspect it'll just be the dress trying to induce dependence on it.

Even with all the costs for this "just die" tech, I feel like "extinguishing target with below SS health rank" is a bit OP. Maybe instead it Ends targets with A rank health...or B rank...and if the target has health above that, it'll do that much rank damage instead? In addition it also would be treated higher rank for the purpose of contesting attempts to negate or avoid it. Also, maybe it can meet a condition that allows it to go up to SS rank damage. Like if the target is attempting to hurt an ally then the damage will go up one rank for each SL Rank LQ has with the ally. Imagine how badass that would be if it were someone like Meihzen or Zhengui. It would be very in theme with LQ's protectiveness of her loved ones.
Keep in mind I'm eyeballing numbers appropriate for a powerful "ultimate" G5 ability. I honestly think deleting someone with "just" S or less health is pretty reasonable for a multi turn windup attack that can still be defended against (e.g something like an A rank black mirror will reduce the damage by a rank, and effects like TRU will prevent death), so to actually succeed in landing a full power effect you need a lot of setup and control to make sure you have an opening and the opponent doesn't pull out something like damage reflect.

There's cultivators like CRX with her crazy double-buffed artillery that by G5 probably can 1-shot sometime from S health if they just stand there and take it.

And as for exact numbers, damage is only instantly lethal if it's at +3 ranks over HP, +2 deals a major/crippling blow which is still survivable.

EDIT: no particular opinion on the vote, I can see good arguments for either option.

[X] Train Wind Thief without your Cai Dress ( +0.2 multiplier, Art Bonus)

Because flight is a rather core ability in the fourth realm, and the art bonus should give a solid foundation for it. Furthermore such a foundation should help Ling Qi help the dress grow in a manner that she compliments WT, or make like the Moon, and do something entirely different whereas just using the dress will liable to get a reaction means it will likely be a crutch.

Admittedly give how jealous the dress is she'll likely cause conflict that needs to be resolved, but being able to successfully work through such issues is part of being a healthy family imo.

Our dress is a core part of our build.

Ultimately, all the arguments have come down this way imo:
  • Importance of a good foundation
  • Arguments for dress are really meta and don't make sense IC
  • If we're trying to learn to work with the dress, it probably makes more sense to do that later once we got the basics down
  • We've got enough stuff going on atm that we don't really need to add dress drama into this turn as well

Sorry, I really like the Wind Thief and want to see it being part of Ling Qi(Art Bonus) instead of the dress(Dress Reaction). I like the image Wind Thief and the feats of daring it promises. We can probably even wing (ha-ha!) a neat concept of knowing when "we truly want to be caught" for our domain.

I won't be that bothered if it goes the other way, though. Dress-chan's possible awakening ought to be fun enough. Ling Qi wants to be the very best like no one ever was.

LFWT is an art that Ling Qi has because it resonated with her in the moment while fading out of unconsciousness(dreams are weird). It draws her, but its themes are enough of a departure in tone it doesn't feel like doubling down. It is a self-focused art, but it doesn't seem fair to suggest it's doubling down on her exclusionary tendencies. It's okay, even necessary, to do things for and by yourself too, and SCS/LFWT basically forms the core of what that is to Ling Qi.

I think the smart choice, or at least the one I prefer, is exploring the art unfettered by other considerations. For the moment. In a way, that's even what the art is about. Let Ling Qi be the Wind, let loose, and have some fun under her own power and initiative for a bit. Maybe it'll even clear her head a bit.

I'm rereading forge, and I had literally just gotten to the point where Ling Qingge picked up the flute again when I noticed that this update had dropped.

Ultimately, in character Ling Qi would choose to fully immerse herself in this art without external aids...

I don't particularly care about loosing the bonus for a single turn, I just want Dress-Chan
