The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

[X] Yes, you would be honored. (Gain technique Warhound's Cry).

It won't be without cost, but I think it's worth it. Even as a technique we won't get to use very often, knowing how to pull on the Anam of bonded creatures like this could be a very potent tool.

Frankly, I'm not all that concerned by what some unnamed background NPCs think about this, and of our actual friends only Shouxi might take it badly, and we can work on that with social actions. The main concern is how the family will take it, but I think we can offset that by using it to continue to grow closer with Mo as instructed.

We've already decided to publicly align ourselves with Nokai, no point not getting a reward for it.

Heh, Hummingbirds Dance, Aurochs Spear, Warhounds Cry. We have a real Animal Kingdom theme going with our fighting techniques.

Well Tree Lady cant say we didnt try a but of everything before settling on Crafting now.

[X] No, you… you had best not. You've other business to attend to after all.

If we cared enough about filial piety to betray Mei to get closer to Mo Hanying, let's be consistent at least.

(That being said, learning the technique will certainly endear us to Mo, since she has that mentality of not caring what the crowd thinks + Nokai's her friend. So I can see the argument for learning the technique)

It's worth pointing out that our mother hasn't explicitly said don't get closer to Nokai. It's entirely possible she was referring to that dung peddler Jin Yazhu when she mentioned unfortunate Artists. :V

Only real worry is what our family will think

Eh, is everyone forgetting Mei Daiyu? Or have you all collectively given up on becoming friends once more with her?

She did lose to Nokai after all and while there's no hard feelings on Nokai's side, that doesn't mean Mei Daiyu doesn't feel something towards her. She's already upset at us and becoming closer with Nokai might make her more upset.

Then, there's also Jai Shouxi to consider. Remember, when he discovered our friendship with Nokai, he cooled noticably for a time. Going deeper in with Nokai could make him less likely to work with us. Jai Fa might not care, but Shouxi likely will.

Then there's the people in the Delving Heart who we don't know of yet whether in this circle or the next. They are not static existences. They could be future friends, enemies, or contacts, and taking this technique and deepening our friendship with Nokai will predispose them one way or another.

The last is not an immediate concern, but they're all people/things we should keep in mind about. Think hard, because this will have long-lasting effects one way or another.

Just because we're friends, doesn't mean we have to learn her technique. I'd rather leave it.

Also, learning it wouldn't just affect current relationships, but also any future ones we try to initiate.

Possibly. It might also mean the various hangers-on that are trying to attach themselves to her, like that fool who lied and said the pink scarf looked great since she couldn't tell it was a joke on Mo Hanying's part. That said, it could easily be about Nokai.

That also being said, our mother knows nothing of Nokai as a person, or that she helped us when we were in need.

I'm also going to note that Mo Hanying might be pleased with this development. The waste barbarian tribe(s) that Nokai is part of has apparently been conquered from the hints we've been given, and Nokai coming into the sect is likely part of an effort to integrate her and the tribes into the Radiant Empire. That she's sharing her tribe's techniques with Empire citizens? That's a good thing. It's a sign of the tribe integrating, and making their strength into the Empire's strength.

We're already friends with Nokai though, and if Mei Daiyu is too immature to get over losing what amounts to a glorified spar with Nokai then quite frankly I doubt she'll ever get over her issues with us. While I'd like to mend fences with Mei Daiyu and be at least cordial if not friends, if it's between being friends with Nokai or Mei Daiyu then I'll pick Nokai.

Then, there's also Jai Shouxi to consider. Remember, when he discovered our friendship with Nokai, he cooled noticably for a time. Going deeper in with Nokai could make him less likely to work with us. Jai Fa might not care, but Shouxi likely will.

I'm not under the impression that Shouxi has anything personal against Nokai or the barbarians. I think it's more that he's afraid of them, in a very general sense because barbarians are scary people. I believe Shouxi will get over his fear of her in time, especially if his sister is fine with Nokai.

Just because we get it doesn't mean we have to use it. But this is a kind of technique we didn't know was possible. This sounds like an educational experience.

That's fair. I was mainly trying to point out that not a few updates ago the entire thread was all about trying to reconcile with Mei Daiyu and that if anyone still wants that, they need to think hard about the vote.

Maybe, but that would require him to interact with Nokai or adopt the same views as his sister. So far, he's not done the former, does not seem likely to do the former any time soon (if ever), and is his own person that is going a different Way from his sister so the latter is possible but not probable IMO.

[X] Yes, you would be honored. (Gain technique Warhound's Cry).

If nothing else we can use the principles behind the technique to make our own charms synergize better with each other.

Even better this seems to be a Harmony based technique (where it syncs up a bunch of disparate power sources into one blast), studying the mechanics behind it so that we can make either ourselves or our charms more in tune with the world (and not just other people) seems like a significant boost in the long run.

Well, you convinced me!

[X] No, you… you had best not. You've other business to attend to after all.

>.>

More seriously, being taught someone else's technique is viewed as a pretty serious thing (also a flavor of why Mei was so hurt). And at this juncture, while I think Nokai's pretty cool and being friends is a good thing, jumping hard on this doesn't seem like the positives outweigh all the potential downsides.

We give up too much for this technique. I dont think our relationship with Jai Shouxi survives this if he finds out. Let alone others. See this for what it is, bait.
