Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
We would never challenge someone to a debate and if we got challenged to one we would decline.

Not how the challenge mechanics work.

The challenger only picks the challenged.

The Elder or Sect Official in charge of the challenge gives the challenged three options, which the challenged chooses between.

It's probably a fair match skillset wise, if we challenged CRX the Elder wouldn't make the match Settlers of Catan except with a real island, because it would be a roflstomp.

How much leeway does the elder have?

We don't know.

How much can politics affect the choices?

We don't know, but it was affecting the OS tourney brackets, which were higher vis.

Social skills in particular, should be part of the "So you're an imperial noble?" Skillset, like dueling, once we reach a certain level.

Though again, they probably wouldn't put us in a Roast Battle against Xiulan, which would be a roflstomp.

I kind of assumed it works like this with options as follows:
  1. Duel
  2. Shared/similar skills
  3. Challenger's skills
Challenger's skills because the challenged can always choose duel instead, but if the elder *ever* chose an option based solely on the challenged's skills then the elder would be giving them an automatic win.

I don't think duAL is an ever present option, though it probably is for us and most people we would challenge.

The challenges depend on:
1) Does either party need a blatant lesson in something important they are neglecting? If yes, then the Elders make the challenge into an object lesson. Since this would be pretty humiliating, this doesn't happen much unless someone had been seriously putting their future at risk or had been annoying the elders and need a slap on the wrist. If someone hyperspecialized into facepunch arts, facepunch domain and literally nothing else they might get this.

2) Elders determine the challenger and challenged skills worthy of the contested rank. Due to how the Sect is set up, combat is usually at least at a C rank compared to their A rank main, so you usually have it as a valid option unless you completely neglected combat...in which case refer to #1, the Elders teach you a lesson.

3) Elders take the two skillsets, overlap them and construct 3 challenges to offer. This may depend on how bored/annoyed the Elder is.

first time I'm hearing this

:Citation Needed:
Dance used to split from expression (if you looked at PLR last thread, it used expression, and dance as such didn't exist). However, given expression no longer exists on any form, it's as likely that Dance is uncapped as it's capped.

My belief here is that it depends on whether we get more Dance arts.

Right on point.

One thing that I'll add is that it doesn't have to be a symmetric challenge.

That is to say, we could absolutely get an infiltration challenge vs someone with Formations or a evade and escape challenege vs a hunter.

I'd point out that the idea that dance has anywhere close to the same level of development and narrative presence as music is clearly nonsensical. Our uncapped music is a result of our green breakthrough - which was clearly derived from what music meant to Ling Qi and thus her developimg way.

One really cannot say the same for dance. I don't think @yrsillar should allow it to be uncapped, and expression should probably be changed to music there.

If we want it to be uncapped, I would suggest we would need at least two more dance arts (which should be slotted), a teacher, and a couple of significant trials. And all the narrative focus that such would imply. Anything less would be silly.

When we do the archive dive, is there another vote for exactly what keywords to look for?

That's how it's been done historically, but Yrs said in the discord:

Ah
if you guys vote archive I'll probably change the format

So there will be another vote on what we get in the archive, and it likely will be a bit different than how it's worked before.

Hey guys. Why is our physical so much higher than our spiritual? I thought it'd be the other way around...

Because we are not at appraisal Green Soul (8), we are at Foundation Green Soul (9). You can see that the next Green Soul level needs double the xp compared to the physical.

edit: so yes, this means that you have found an error on the frontpage

Okay thanks for clarifying. @yrsillar Spiritual Cultivation should be at GS9, not 8. Right?
