I honestly think it speaks more of SV's demographics than anything else. In real life America soc dem would be too left to win (we might see an exception in 2020 but that's more due to a crowded Democratic primary than anything else). Normally you'd get most people preferring either social liberals or capitalists. Plus a small but present minority supporting libertarians.

This tally is for something in the discord.

[X][IDEALS] New Capitalist: Aims to restore the old system with badly-needed revisions to address some of the obvious flaws. Among other things, it mandates a living minimum wage tied to government-collected measures, writes into foundational law the de-personhood of anybody who is not, in fact, an actual person, and institutes broad protections for employees against their employers (protected right to unionize, protections for whistleblowers, pension laws for companies, etc.). The New Capitalists do not give a single shit about democratized workplaces, positively or negatively, as long as they pay their taxes.

[X][IDEALS] Social Democrat: Centered around the idea that it is the state's responsibility to ensure a bare-minimum standard of living, the Social Democrats add to the New Capitalist agenda with a push for a government guarantee of adequate housing, food, and water to all citizens -- itself a fairly titanic task. It remains rooted in the fundamental ideal of private enterprise. The Social Democrats have some interest in the potential of democratized workplaces and are willing to support them in an experimental measure.

[X][CRUSH] Some of the central tenets of the founding government's ideology are written into foundational law, making it difficult for even violently opposed successor governments to fully roll them back without immense popular support.

[X][POWER] You are a centralized federal state along the lines of the later United States.

[X][POWER] You are a devolved unitary state with subordinate governments formed or dissolved by central governmental decrees according to need

[X][TEXT] The Constitution serves as a broad guide for the structure of this document, and many legal concepts integral to it carry through, but it is rewritten from the ground up to serve its new situation rather than simply amending it until it fits.

[x][REVIEW] The new Constitution should be put to review and possible revision every thirty years.

as it turns out, out of the 64 65 voters for socialism, only seven eight have socialism as their only pick

what this means is left as an exercise to the reader

And loving America for all.

Edit: and taking those fucking Victoria traitors to the nooses, and watching them hang for their crimes against America.

It means that approval voting works as a way of figuring out what position along a spectrum people are comfortable adopting, and reaching a consensus solution that's acceptable to the greatest number of people.

That said, I should seriously think over whether I have a preference about which side wins, because my vote might actually be decisive in principle and right now it's split SD/DS. Huh.

Social Democrats have 29 voters voting solely for Social Democracy, out of 62. The only remaining target in this thought experiment is the Communists, who might actually have even fewer unique voters than the Socialists.

lmao there is exactly one unique communist, and it's Susano

everyone else in the Communist Party is absolutely onboard with being socialists if it moves the government further left

To round out the set, out of twelve New Capitalist voters 6 have voted solely for New Capitalism. Interesting trend, where the further right you go the less willing voters are to compromise, although the sample is so small to nearly be totally worthless.

Most modern communists, on some level, would like to win by masses of people voting for them in the end, because that is how communism is supposed to win in theory: sheer overwhelming mass support.

The Socialist Party of Chicago or what have you seems to have a reasonable chance of accomplishing this.

Okay but also consider that the people involved here in-universe are approximately a half-century of various fuckery distant from the modern United States, so RL political trends are less than indicative of "realistic" expectations.

Speaking for myself, as a voter here, I'm not authoritarian; it's why I voted not to enshrine economic/certain political ideologies into the constitution (beyond the universal declaration of human rights and etc). Everyone deserves to vote, capitalist and socialist alike.

Except Victorians. Fuck those guys.
