Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Approval voting here. Because I am fine with all the slotting in options.

[X][FVM] Though a path might be hard and lonely, it has worth if you can present something of beauty to those you care for at the end.

[X][FVM] Even if hardship and tribulation litter your path, it has worth if you have somewhere to return at the end.

[X][FSS] The end comes for all things, without exception. In accepting this, you are freed.

[X][FSS] There are endings and Endings, only the very last one is final. Just as winter ends in spring, small endings are new beginnings.

Planning ahead is the real problem with these insight votes. I like the insights for both FVM and FSS, but not enough to make cutting, say, TRF's potential insight from our build a sure thing. It would be pretty rough if we liked something like TRF or HDW when it came around.
To be completely honest I am not a huge fan of the narrative that TRF is trying to convey. It is a super good art for us and has treated us well and I like wood as a element, but I like wood in the vein of qi regen and the regrowth aspects not so much in it's enduring aspects. Right now I am totally fine in not betting on a TRF insight.

However I think that what this chapter conveys is that the insights provided by the arts can be quite unique and different than what I was first imaging. Right now it is really hard for me to even guess what the insight could be from TRF. Still though I like both of the insights presented in this update that I am willing to gamble on not liking TRF's insight.

Planning ahead with insights is just so difficult and I think that is on purpose. It forces a cultivator to be decisive and not wobble between different insights.

Edit: For voting

I think what we've forgotten about TRF is that it's at its core, a group art. It's not about just trees standing firm, it has the core of standing together with others being better than going alone, and I think that's an important lesson that if Ling Qi hasn't learned, she needs to (despite her going "Find some friends and stick with them" to little Bai - which tells me it's extremely core to her if that's her #1 lesson from the outer sect).

Strictly speaking, we can slot all 4 of our core arts here. We're not that tight on slots. And with the Domain score being easier to raise, we don't need to be that much of a miser.

And honestly, I suspect our FVM insight is liable to be iterated on in the incoming Tribulation anyway.

The first combo well with our home domain and the second fit well with zhengui renewal.
I think that the combination of them though is kinda awkward. One is really looking for security and stability, while the other is looking at embracing the opportunities given by the lack of such things.

if we get something it should be from FSS, the art Zeqing designed and taught us, rather than FVM we got from the moon.

[X][FSS] All things End, but one does not need to think of endings to live(No slot)

I feel like showing Zeqing a way to take her own path forward through Ling Qis insights will create a powerful synergy for both of them to take forward on their Way.

Zeqing, for all her foibles, still made her Home. In a lot of ways, Snow Mom is what Ling Qi wishes to be. So leaning into those parallels is a strong thematic message, and one which should resonate with her far into the future. I couldnt ask for anything more appropriate to add to her Domain.

I just want our domain to have some inkling of home.

And always fuck with ice mom by getting the wrong insight. :angry_barking:

Also, let's not count our chicken before they hatch: we don't know if TFR will provide a likable insight.

And I forgot to talk about it but FVM is our more narratively and thematically relevant art, not slotting it seems like treating the quest more like a video game than a story.

[x][FVM] Though it is beautiful, the travelers song is not Ling Qi's(No slot)

Well, we currently have 4 free slots, but we are getting 2 more slots this turn (+1 domain rank). So even if we, say, slot TRF/SCS/FVM/FSS, we'll have 2 free slots. We should be able to get more slots by the time we finish those 2 slots, I think.

I just have a feeling that... we'll have to hold back a little against opponents who accept a duel challenge against us. Like HR (used to be HC) just poisons a target until they dispell it or they... die (probably hyperbole, but I'm not too sure). CtE just straight out does incredible damage that ignores armor. And even FVM can be used to deal tremendous damage. I don't want to kill a guy when we are doing our challenges. Must have been what Sun Liling, Meizhen, and Cai felt when they were up against their respective yellows in the tournament.
@yrsillar, Ling Qi can stop Hoarfross Refrain as need be, right? She doesn't need to have someone else dispels it for it to end?

I'll probably switch to approval voting later on, but first I need to get my favorite ones.

I like all the options though, I just prefer those.

While this is a really good lesson to take from TRF I feel a little different about the end result. TRF is about enabling a group to endure anything. However how much of that enduring is unnecessary? The taller and stronger a tree the more tribulation it will receive. That tribulation may very well spill over into the forest around that central tree. Does being a tall and strong tree bring undue hardship to those around us? I don't know.

This is what makes domain planning so hard. I just have no idea what direction the TRF insight is going to go. You have a great view from it that would really help Ling Qi build and protect her home. I have a more pessimistic view of it. Until we view what the insight is from TRF we won't really know what Ling Qi could get out of TRF. Right now though I am willing to gamble on not liking TRF's insight. It might be really good but for now I feel very safe in slotting in FVM's and FSS insight.

Well, I'm hoping it's going to be working off the group "trees standing together" elements. If it doesn't though then yeah, I'm not interested.

One thing that we should keep in mind is that slotting a domain insight is choosing something that defines Ling Qi.

We aren't just choosing lessons that we think are useful or interesting; we are choosing lessons that we want to make fundamental.
Yes, perhaps a good way to think about this is: "what would a god of this idea be like?"
