It's best not to underestimate DL level opponents. Especially since even THE Magnamon is... well he's not on the more powerful end of the RK spectrum.

As for the store? Indeed! If this mon is at the heavyweight class as Verge's senses have implied than there's really nothing that could prevent him from setting up shop. In fact, most places would try their best to have him join their city!
THE Magnamon is a bit of an oddball. All Royal Knights are going to be super high end Megas, but his strength is less about raw stats and more about concepthax. A weird 'nothing is outright impossible when I'm involved' type effect.

And yeah, having a Digimon that strong around is nice. Even if they are staying neutral, they'll still probably help out if the city itself comes under attack, simply because destroying the city is bad for business.

24th Of Water: *The First Bit Of News*
With Sparks's business in the marketplace concluded, you both start towards the assigned barracks. Stopping only briefly for your friend to buy something called a *newspaper* from a Salamon. You're more than a little curious about what's on the pages, but patiently wait for the Wizardmon sitting on your pauldron to finish reading before asking about it. He's more than happy to show you the contents, which turn out to be small columns of words detailing some of the world's recent events.

None of them are very long, but some of the information is interesting.

Glorious News From The Northern Frontier! Legendary Warriors Defeated!
Article Sponsored By The Blessed Host

You have that right folks! In the deadly clashes between Host Forces and the Nefarious Gloaming some purrrfect news has arisen! A pair of rising stars met two veteran Legendary Warriors in single combat during a siege on the now deceased Lord Phelesmon's unnamed fortress. And they gave those idols of the Sefirot Cult a good licking! With heroes like these set against them, the forces of evil and domination don't stand a chance!

Bellator "Verge" The mutant Gryzmon dueled the despicable mercenary Wolfmon who was blocking the entrance and even managed to break his armor! And rumor has it that he defeated a Growlmon right afterwords using only a single arm! Sources state have stated that he's the very largest Gryzmon on record and has even survived fighting a LadyDevimon! And we all know how nasty those tramps are! So watch out not to get crushed! You know who has issued a 40,000 to put him in the litterbox, but it might be a better idea to avoid trying to collect.

Bellator "Beat" (No not that one sillies, he's dead) the Stingmon overwhelmed the newly appeared Blitzmon and like his namesake would suggest forced the Legendary Warrior to flee in terror! Unlike the other members of his species this one seems to be more of a bruiser so don't think cornering him will get you victory! The reason for him using the name of Astamon's former confidant is unknown, but that big old grump is not happy! 100,000 bits bounty on his head so he's not kitten around. Watch out hero!

A leak who's identity will not be mentioned has put forth that there may be a LadyDevimon appearing on the Host's roster. But the info is sketchy at best. Watch out angels! You don't want another Catastrophic incident!

The Hero SlashAngemon Claims Another Victory!
Article Sponsored By The Blessed Host

In hisstoric news, the Host's most famous figure has lead his faction in finally triumphing over the northern theater. Firmly cementing the area within The Blessed Hosts control and defeating both Astamon and his new General NeoVamdemon in the process.

The Gloaming Lord Vamdemon and his servants have been pushed north into the Hazard Coast, which will make regrouping quite the hairball for them!

In other more minor news, Astamon has committed yet another atrocity. While the Hero was busy securing victory, the Gloaming's forces struck at The Host's largest set of fields, annihilating their most valuable crops. The Travel BreadTM will have to look into other sources to find their quotas.

Article:
Bulwark Strained?
Article Sponsored By Bulwark

With the Hazard Coast threat escalating again and the Savage Wilds exploding with new even more powerful ferals the good hunters from Bulwark are struggling to keep up. Which is bad news for civilized mon like us! Skin this smooth isn't meant for combat!

The Organization's mysterious leader has put out a call for assistance to prevent the overwhelming number of mindless digimon from expanding out into the other Zones. All mercenaries no matter the background are welcome in this tumultuous time and pay is plenty.

Rumour has it that the newly appeared mega "ImperialDramon" has been seen assisting them, but the source has so far been completely anonymous.

The last page... It's just a picture of a mon who you guess to be the writer laying on her back and winking at the camera. You really don't get why this would be included in the news, but Sparks rips it free for some reason and puts in his bag... you're not sure why that's so disconcerting.

While you're not normally one to concern your mind with monetary subjects, the news about *Chikarax Crystals* sends shivers down your sprne. Something about the material being so widespread feels...wrong. Even if you can't tell mentally, you trust your instincts on this matter. Next up, the the news about your fight against Wolfmon stings your fighting spirit. You didn't win that fight, he did... though the fact that news of your victory over Growlmon has spread across the world, or at least several City-States is quite flattering.

You're a bit surprised that the Gloaming would do something as meaningless as burn some fields. Considering how fast plants grow it can't be doing that much damage... right?

Lastly, is the news about Bulwark and it is rather interesting. You've dealt with Feral digimon before and if they're getting to be so numerous and powerful that a faction like Bulwark is having trouble, then there must be tens of thousands of them coming up. Hopefully the problem won't continue to grow.

Plus, another Mega-level digimon appearing is no small thing, especially considering the examples you've seen so far. You don't know much about this *ImperialDramon* aside from the name of course but he must be another creature capable to reshaping the landscape. It's all the more reminder of your own ambition to one day obtain such power... well. After rescuing your family and gaining revenge of course.

===Authors Note: I have a social obligation I need to attend. I'll have to last bit up later. Until then, feel free to continue voting on the book stuff.

Delete the extra "the" at the beginning.

Either Verge is seeing two minds in his body or you fucked up the phrasing a bit in this red section.

That's about what I'd expect from a newspaper around these parts. Very biased in the Host's favor, exaggerating the accomplishments of their warriors and outright fabricating atrocities committed by the enemy for some good old Two Minutes Hate. "Verge survived a fight with a LadyDevimon" is especially egregious, failing to mention that A. she wasn't an enemy soldier, B. Verge was taken out in one punch and only survived out of luck.

And I'm very concerned about Beat. Clearly he was Astamon's old GrandKuwagamon general, but that wouldn't explain why Astamon is so dead-set on having him specifically dead. Just hearing his name before had him immediately decide to kill him.

Edit: Drexal, something I forgot to ask last time: Is Magnamon unable to speak or is he just choosing not to?

Oh-ho-ho! so now we potentially have two Digimon connected in some fashion to the Royal Knights in play.
Magnamon(presently running a Digimental Shop), and ImperialDramon(potentially to be ImperialDramon PM?) who's with the Bulwark.

Hm...I wonder if there's a way we can lend a hand with the Bulwark? if the pay's good enough, it might be another finances option for getting Sparks a Digimental.
it'll probably be one of those 'Go to X Place, Kill off Y Amount of Ferals' sort of deals, but it's something Verge can pretty easily do. even as Drimogemon.

Wow I knew mon snorting the Tibeirum was a thing, but I have to admit I agree with Verge as well as with the Tree in being worried about it being so widespread.

Shiiiit, Beat and Verge both got bounties on their heads. Big ones.
You're a bit surprised that the Gloaming would do something as meaningless as burn some fields. Considering how fast plants go it can't be doing that much damage... right?
If they used something to taint the fields or otherwise render them incapable of growing afterwards, then yes, they certainly could have a massive impact.

Hello! Opportunity to make some cash!

Oh man, we got a bounty.
Yes. Fame comes with a cost. And as the quest continues that is likely to grow more and more, perhaps with other mon adding bounties of their own as well.
@justinkal thank you!

For the big sentences in red, it was meant to convey that Verge believes Wolfmon won that fight.

And I'm very concerned about Beat. Clearly he was Astamon's old GrandKuwagamon general, but that wouldn't explain why Astamon is so dead-set on having him specifically dead. Just hearing his name before had him immediately decide to kill him.
Consider this, there's no way for people to just magically plot convenient way for a digimon to find out whether another mon is the reincarnated version of their friend.

So for Astamon, an insect digimon shows up in the enemy army that bears the name of his trusted general, the same mon who died so he could escape.

He considers it an intentional insult by the Host. Mocking his dead friend. It's the exact kind of thing he would do.
Edit: Drexal, something I forgot to ask last time: Is Magnamon unable to speak or is he just choosing not to?

Curses. When thinking it up I really should have gone with a different color. Now people just call it Tiberium despite having its own name!

Edit: I should be able to start writing the final bit a couple hours.

To be fair even if his main confrontation where with a mercenary and a feral I'd want the monster level champion dealt with too, if only because I'd not want something like that evolving and being a problem later.

Sorry I can't help it, tiberium is just such a fitting nickname for the stuff and I'm more used to typing it so I do it out of habit.

Either way it's not like anyone expecting the Digimon Brotherhood of Nod to show up, as funny/dark as that would be.

24th-25th Of Water: The Barracks & *A New Leader*
It's several hours later, in the afternoon when you arrive at the assigned barracks and unsurprisingly the rest of your friends aren't there. Beat's going to be working out until the evening (how lucky of him) while Pit will more than likely be spending his time exploring the city.

The living space itself is made up from a trio of buildings, one built for more "normal" sized digimon complete with actual beds. While the other is built more like a storage area with simple large mats laid out on the floor. Not the most comfortable place to rest, but able to house a massive mon like yourself. Interestingly enough, the third building is a large trading post and the place where most of the barracks current inhabitants see, to be hanging out.

During lunch, you come upon an interesting realization regarding your ability to slide evolve. Namely that by spending two hours a day in your rookie form, you'll be able to cut your food costs in Tracel Bread by sixty bits every day. While it doesn't seem like much by itself, it's something that will build up quite a bit over time. Ten days would mean six hundred, twenty days would be twelve hundred, etc.

Unfortunately you're not able to get any letters written for the simple fact that this version of the building doesn't have a dedicated mail service. Instead that portion has been replaced with *a bar* which is supposed to serve special drinks. Judging by the powerful smells emanating from the establishment, it seems to be the same kind stuff Darcmon likes to drink.

Beat is the next member of your group to arrive and he continues his attempts to be more sociable. The Stingmon informs the both of you that he's not only found a fitting gym, but also acquired a set of four passes, one for each of you. Your friend, didn't think to mark it down on his map, but the champion offers to lead you there tomorrow for training. Naturally you agree.

Pit returns last but... the winged digimon doesn't seem entirely there. Instead of giving his normal boisterous greetings, the low-ranking angel just kind of hovers past a ridiculously happy grin showing beneath his helmet. You've never seen him act like this before, even the happiness he had after seeing SistermonNoir was more... content than overwhelmed. Sparks and Beat both notice the odd behavior as well and all three of you silently agree to go up and ask the Pidmon about it.

Upon asking him what happened however...

"Aaah. Friends, Sparks, Verge, Beat. Hyuk, hyuk. This day I have seen the glorious, undying holy light, and it was beautiful to behold."

... now what does that mean?

"Lord Pit, thine words lack actual descriptions. Please inform us of what occurred."

"The Lord blessed me this day my friends. The great Seraph Ophanimon was present in the cathedral and... so radiant. Beautiful. She truly embodied the very essence of holy light, even when so bound. Her power was magnificent and... haaaah. She smiled at me."

"Heh, hehehehe. Now I get it." Sparks begins cackling uncontrollably, much to the confusion of you and the Stingmon, but Pit doesn't seem to notice.

"I would give nearly anything to see her again. And if I could just... get close enough to bask in her aura..." The angel sighs again even as Sparks continues to crack up.

Does he know something we don't?

"Spit it out."

"Yes. Please inform us, I too am curious over... this."

"Alright, alright. *Mister Holy* over there is head over heels for this *Ophanimon* like those ridiculous fans of Blanc and Noir, he's been overwhelmed by her *Radiance*. Hehehe. Almost like thine tendency to stare at Ardat."

"What?!/What?!"

"I-I'm not-Ardat's my friend! It's-she's umm. I don't like... like looking at her that much. Even if-Beat! Please back me up!"

The Stingmon looks towards you his eyes lacking so much as a hint of mercy, then shakes his head.

"He's right."

No... it's not true! I'm not like that!... how many bits did you spend buying her gifts Verge? Uh... one, two books. Priced at... Oh crud. Thirty-four hundred bits! That's more than the albums those Garrison members bought!

While you're holding that little mental argument, Pit begins to mutter.

"No! Friend Sparks I can't like her like that. She's Ophanimon! The purest most holy, radiant, beautiful and amazing... I'm just a sergeant and she's one of the three orginal Seraphs! There's no way that would even work! I can't... what would those feelings even mean?"

No. I don't like her like that! You do! I don't! You do! I don't! You do! I don't!

Sparks continues to laugh at the obvious distress and you swear that Beat let's out a noise that sounds suspiciously like he's chuckling along.

The remnants of your squad assembles in the large training yard early next morning, strange devices called *Clocks* working to tell you the exact time. HolyAngemon isn't late, to the contrary by the time you've finished breakfast, he's already outside waiting for everyone else to arrive. Sparks is the last mon to line up, and your commanding officer begins speaking one tenth of a second after he comes to attention.

"Sergeant Pit, Bellators, Initiate. With Sergeant Scratch's demise your unit is in need of a new commanding officer."

"Holy Throne! I swear by the Lord to lead the others well!"

"Sergeant Pit, your dedication to the cause is admirable, but you lack the required experience and power for this post. For now you'll have to settle for being second in command." The Pidmon nods sadly at the officers words, but doesn't protest.

"Heh, if not Lord Pit, then whom was it that thine chose?"

"... *Sigh*"

Well, that doesn't sound good.

"So much as I detest making this decision, it is the correct one given the circumstances. My choice is-" His sentence is cut off as a piercing cry slices through the air.

Spirits above an attack?!

A large quadrupedal figure dives down from the sky, it's sharp beak and wicked talons gleaming dangerously in the morning light. You reflexively rear up into defensive stance as it slams to the earth, ready to defend yourself as it's green eyes narrow in challenge. It's larger than the flight-efficient shape might initially suggest, measuring ten feet tall when on all fours. Not exactly as tall as you but... it feels stronger.

Then, you spot the Ultimate digimon's rider and notice a familiar grin on the Darcmon's face.

Wait, is that.

"Sup guys! How're you all fucking doing?"

Her Imperius Angewomon?... no she's Darcmon now. So how would-

"Damnit we talked about this." HolyAngemon grumbles, frowning towards the pair. The Imperius smirks back, patting what you guess to be the evolved form of Maildramon. "Fine. Imperius Darcmon will take the role. She's served under me for months and despite her many, infuriating issues, is a competent enough stand in I can trust to prioritize the squad's survival over glory."

"Aaah. It's goddamn nice to her you compliment me sir!"

"She's also like a particularly tenacious Vamdemon when it comes to survival." He continues, shooting her a glare. "It's a shame she lacks their sense of class."

"Bah! I have plenty of class!.. whatever that is!"

"Wark!" The digimon under her barks(?) out in agreement.

"... enough of this." The robed angel growls. "Take over from here, I have duties to attend to."

"But sir!" You turn his way, and barely manage to avoid flinching as he turns his attention you way.

Focus! No hesitation! No fear!

"Why isn't Ardat here? I thought she just had to take some tests."

"That is none of your-" The annoyed digimon takes a deep breath. "Bellator Verge, her mental state is in critical condition as your near death can attest. She will be undergoing significant treatment and will not rejoin the squad until deemed fit for duty."

"Oh..."

I see, that is. At least I know where she is? I can visit right?

Before you can ask, the officer steps away and leaps up, flying out of verbal range.

Darnit.

"Alright! Listen up assholes! I'm taking over for now so I need to see what you can do! Because of that jackass SkullSatomon you're stronger than I am, so you'll be fighting me and my little helper here!"

"Wark!"

Wait! We'll be fighting?! But-

"Get the Gryzmon first!" And then there's not more time for thought as the feathered beast digimon launches itself your way, talons flashing.

We have physical power in spades, but as the Lobomon fight shows, we are lacking in speed.

Still, the fact that his stall exists at all is convenient and you go about browsing his wares for blank tomes. Going by the prices, a basic small blank book, little more than a manual isn't all that much. Just 200 bits. But that's not good enough for Ardat so you ignore those. Next up are somewhat tougher looking and thicker grimoires, these are actually fairly similar to your own spellbook and cost 400 bits. Sparks purchases a pair of them, one red, one yellow. Much to the impoverished merchant's delight.
Oh, so Sparks bought empty spellbooks?
Going to devise his own spells now?
That is odd. Some of them look... like digi-eggs. Why?
I'd personally guess from how Armor Evolution works, they might be converted Digieggs that work like the Spirits. A digimon's pattern stored as an object so that it can effectively function as a fusion, as long as you can synchronize with it. Spirits being Specific patterns and Digimentals being generic

Easier than DNA digivolution since the partner is a static embodiment, rather than a living creature with Opinions.
I... this feeling it's.. the gap is overwhelming. Stronger than... Count or HolyAngemon. Like... Astamon. I can't... No. I-refuse to be powerless again. Move.

With gritted teeth, you struggle through the immense pressure muscles burning to force your paws forward even a fraction of an inch.

Amusement.
Recognition.

What? This feeling. It's... familiar. By The Ten, By The Lord, By The Great Tree what's going on?!
Its practically a miracle to meet again isn't it?

We hit the big times! We got a bounty and all!
40,000 is kind of underpaying for a fight on Verge's magnitude though, which is good. Beat's bounty is more like it. He'd probably want to be on the lookout, because it'd be actually worth the time for a powerful Champion or a weak Ultimate to have a go at him.

Shit, thats not good. The Gloaming seems to be steadily winning the logistics war by inches, though fortunately for us the Holy Digimon tend to be pretty energy efficient as these things go, compared to the Evil Digimon.

Kek.
Its for her mental well being!

Incidentally looking at non-evil LadyDevimon evolutions(was bored and curious):
-Seraphimon - Probably not happening lol.
-Rosemon - A focus on beauty and seduction. Neither evil nor good, aligned Dominatrix. Think Ardat is a bit too chuuni for this yet.
-Ophanimon - Probably not happening lol.
-Minervamon - Childish and cheerful, unstable and violent if angry. Creates tornadoes with a sword. Greek-god. Ardat might wind up here with a more martial focus, but despite her high melee attack power she's never been interested.
-Mastemon - Would have to be a very weird day when a LadyDevimon and an Angewomon Jogress.
-Marsmon - Like Minervamon, but with more suplexes, more serious, less boobs and less happy. Unlikely.
-Lotusmon - Calm, graceful, and ladylike....good luck Ardat.
-Kuzuhamon - Not much info, but its basically an Impure Lewd Sakuyamon. If Ardat goes heavily into magic, its a possible route.
-Imperialdramon - Wat.

"No! Friend Sparks I can't like her like that. She's Ophanimon! The purest most holy, radiant, beautiful and amazing... I'm just a sergeant and she's one of the three orginal Seraphs! There's no way that would even work! I can't... what would those feelings even mean?"

So I've got a few questions about Digimon who get forcibly devolved to an earlier form, such as Angewomon -> Darcmon.
  1. Do they get higher stat caps in the lowered form than they did the first time around (likely due to higher Talents and/or a percentage of the higher form's stats)?
  2. When they re-evolve, is it possible for them to get a different evolved form than they had originally due to having higher stats at the time of evolution than they did originally?
  3. When they re-evolve, is it possible for them to get a different evolved form than they had originally because their personality changed between the time they first evolved and the time they devolved?
  4. Is it possible for them to find themselves in a Gramps-like state of being incapable of re-evolving because their personality changed between the time they first evolved and the time they devolved?
