Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

Hrrmf...
So here's my take on it-we had a choice between clocktower and Gaia. We picked Gaia I think because Karen had been weaselly about the wording of her offer to protect and shelter Una. This, caused Cerys to flip out because massive trust issues in general, and then we have the tear-away into Gaia's faction and terrorizing humanity as her 'Monster'.
Now, do we trust Karen enough to make a deal with her?
Here's the problem: Cerys reacted poorly, but that doesn't change the fact she had something to react to in the first place-namely, Karen's duplicity. Admittedly, Karen's sneaky games WOULDN'T have made a difference if Cerys played it straight if I understood that chain of events properly, but the fact of the matter was, Karen basically had her fingers crossed while she was shaking Cerys' hand.

I think this presents a major problem. Because sure, Karen MIGHT have felt comfortable doing that thinking she was dealing with a singular agent, it's hard to believe she wouldn't try it again with Cerys as some sort of...IDK, Counter-Force leader. To make matters worse, Karen is MORE invested in getting a secret upper hand to boot-I imagine she would like to not have a peer that ultimately doesn't know what she's doing AND has demonstrated that she's vulnerable to being swayed...

It occurs to me suddenly if we say no, what precisely does that entail?
Does it just mean the buck gets passed to someone else as the other head?
Does it mean a fight to the death with Karen?
But then we get back to the matter of trust...
So.
Karen, point-blank range from us. Do we think we can take her?
The difference now is that we aren't relying on her to protect Una now. Then she lied about our crazy button and she had control of our entire environment which made the situation to risky to tolerate as she was our boss, landlord, and lead an army that surrounded us. The level of trust to have that much power over us is immense. Now we would be negotiating as a peer representing Gaia with a safe place to retreat to if she betrays us.

Now she has less opportunity to betray us and damage she could inflict isn't as great so we are willing to tolerate more risk of betrayal.

[] "I can work with you."
[] "Sure, not like we don't expect each other to try pulling shit."
[] "Maybe, if you can prove that you aren't going to stab me in the back again."
[] "No."
Going in the reverse order:

The fourth option I'd say goes contrary not just to Karen, but also to Gaia. It's Cerys being stubbornly obstinate, pure and simple. Rejected.
The third option I'd say is needlessly antagonistic. Certainly, Karen attempted to put a collar on us, but a stab in the back is an over-dramatization. If anything, sadly, Cerys fits this description better. I don't want Cerys to be pot calling the kettle back.
The second option sounds like Cerys expects to start "pulling shit" on Karen. I don't like that it sounds like a veiled declaration of hostility. Some things are better left unsaid.

[X] "I can work with you."

And so I pick the first option. As others have said, Karen no longer has leverage on us. She can no longer truly threaten what Cerys cherishes, which is exactly what makes this offer of partnership palatable.

Well, it actually means that both sides will expect the respective other to start something, sometime. Not that they will.

Mainly, it is supposed to imply "You know I don't trust you and I know you don't trust me, but it's fine that way".

Minor note here, it is not "working for" but "working with". Cerys will not be Karen's subordinate again, no matter what you vote.
Ah yeah there's that I guess that would work.
Only hope we don't indulge in our paranoia about Karen again.

So now, 7 months ago I wrote a post, on Karen's motivations on both the Vow, and how she acted right before Gaia gave the offer to switch.

However, I wrote it before the Crossroads update actually came out in thread (read it in the beta workshop :V), and so didn't post it as soon as I finished it as per usual.

Then somehow forgot to post it at all :V.

Anyway since we are talking about Karen right now, and an offer of alliance, I feel it prudent to talk about her so:

On the Vow

The first thing to look at is what the situation is.

Cerys had been gone for six days, kidnapped by Gaia, when the last MG kidnapped that way never returned. Because the Perluda attacked she had to try to replace Cerys (with Daiyu), because she couldn't afford to wait longer on the off chance Cerys would return.

However, giving up on someone after being MIA for six days, and trying to replace them hurts and so damages Cerys trust in her.

This moment was the moment that Cerys either stays with her or leaves.

She wants an unbreakable guarantee that her sister will be cared for to the best of her ability, or her most trusted person's ability, if Karen dies.

Logically, refusing to do so, or refusing to go to the closest thing, will make Cerys feel even more betrayed, like Karen's original promise to take care of Una when they first met was false.

This would probably end up with Cerys leaving the clocktower, with a grudge against Karen specifically.

The second thing to note is how utterly absurd what Cerys requested actually is, from Karen's Point of View.

That is even ignoring the fact that she wanted Karen to make the guarantee for her most trusted person, and making a guarantee for another is impossible in this case.

This is of course assuming, Karen cannot simply loophole that with the logic that the person Karen trusts the most is herself, which would result in it just being a guarantee about her.

Which technically is a valid loophole :V.

Now also consider that Karen is the head of an organization that spans and controls several countries.

That Karen, who has made herself immortal, is one who is very much not someone who wants to die at any time, ever, if she can help it.

If she has to do something to meet the condition of caring for Una to the best of her ability (rescuing her, accompanying her somewhere), etc at a time when the clocktower is in a state of emergency, or she has to deal with something important regarding it, would she sacrifice the organization she has spent decades building up, that allows her to be one of the most powerful people in the world not even including her magical abilities?

Would she be willing to sacrifice her life, walking into a trap in an attempt to save Una to the best of her ability?

The answer is no.

She wouldn't and so would suffer the negative effects of the geas, making her weaker, taking away her edge that allows her to be on top of the world, so that something can knock her down.

Furthermore, since Karen is obviously a person who sees immortality as better than mortality, wouldn't caring for Una to the best of her abilities involve making her immortal if possible?

Then it is a matter of Karen having to care for Una to the best of her ability for the rest of their immortal lives or else suffer greater and greater maluses each time she fails to do so.

On the other hand, not coming up with an unbreakable guarantee or a Geas would end up with Cerys leaving.

Which would end up with Daiyu leaving, and Sabina leaving.

She'd lose three of her greatest pieces in the upcoming conflicts ahead of her.

That is unacceptable.

So instead she must lie, convincingly.

We knew, from the very first time we met her that she could do so. After all:

. "Despite what it might look like, I don't have any sort of multiple personality disorder or mental health issues. My ability to radically change my personality and outlook on something is a by-product of my long life, I've seen pretty much every different type of person and who they can communicate best with socially."
She has already shown she can effortlessly change her personality or outlook to suit the situation at hand.

She could sell the lie easily.

From there, as a master of manipulation who can control the governments of several countries from the shadows, all that is left would be time.

With time she could make Cerys invested in her and the clocktower both emotionally and financially (well financially she has been in control since the beginning). To invested to simply leave.

Furthermore while she was lying about an unbreakable guarantee, she wasn't lying about her intent to protect Una. After all:

Karen had lived a long time, seen many plans fall apart and tried her best to learn from her mistakes. The two sisters sitting across the garden from her were her latest effort, her attempts to right some of the many wrongs she had committed in the past, such was the origin of her promise.
I vowed to keep her safe.
She just became a magical girl.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

This is from her perspective, a clear sign that she took the promise seriously, that she has seen it as a way to try to right wrongs.

It is ideally something she would follow through on, unless it hits a breaking point where she runs into something that is more important to her than keeping Una safe.

So ideally, with time, Cerys would also see that while the promise wasn't unbreakable, the fact that Karen had not broken it after a long stretch is a sign she still took it seriously. In that case, having already proven her sincerity, Cerys would still be mad, but also could be easy for Karen to talk down.

Since, you know, Karen has already proved at that point that she cares about protecting Una.

And well, if she did have to break it, or Cerys found out about it before enough time has passed to get Cerys to see what Karen sees as sense, Cerys would come to her directly, based on her personality.

So either Karen then defuses the situation, or it comes to a fight, and Cerys, having not having enough time to grow, is outclassed against Karen and so loses.

And honestly based on Cerys actions since joining the Clocktower, she had little reason to suspect Cerys would find out quickly.

She asked questions before coming and on the initial meeting, but besides that has been rather content with her lot at the clocktower.

She asked for world news to be collected weekly, yet never actually looks at it, and so shows being uninterested in it despite that access.

She lives in the clocktower, but doesn't actually interact with many of the people. Usually only enforcers, Morgan, and Karen. She hasn't even once tried to see what the other divisions of the clocktower does, she doesn't even try to understand anything about the clocktower that isn't related to the top (Karen), or her job (enforcers).

Once she feels safe, she no longer sees the need to asks questions.

So once Karen makes her feel safe again, she doesn't need to fear Cerys asking, and finding out about the fact that such vows can be rescinded is extremely unlikely, since Cerys isn't really around people who make them.

It was a gamble, but again, the alternative, telling her the truth, would have resulted in a Geas, that Karen found unacceptable, or would have resulted in Cerys leaving, with a grudge against Karen, and having had no reason to hate any of Karen's enemies yet.

Cerys could have been easily in the position for her enemies to pick her up, and turn her into an actually effective weapon against her.

So it was Lie, tell the truth and let her go whilst hating Karen, or tell the truth and potentially kill her so that she can't be used by her enemies.

Of course it might have been possible to get Cerys on her side whilst telling the truth and not undergoing a Geas, but remember what Karen thinks of Cerys:

Seeing Cerys rather drastic shift in attitude now that her sister is safe just confirms every thought you'd had previously. Absolutely reliant, protective past the point of sanity. Gil sends you a disproving glance out of the corner of his eye, but doesn't say anything more. You ignore him, even if you feel the slightly childish urge to let some of your smugness show. Try to tell me that I'm wrong about people.

She thinks that Cerys is not sane in how protective she is of Una.

And frankly, being betrayed by Karen by her trying to replace her, and Karen showing she is unwilling to go the extra mile in proving she would protect Una?

The chances of Cerys staying at that point is astronomically low.

Much lower than the chances of her succeeding on her gamble.

(the section above was written before the current chapter, hence there is probably redundant explanations in it.)

Crossroads:

First she stays with the lie to confirm the truth has been revealed. If it was something easily mendable she would be able to steer Cerys around the issue or into believing it again.

Or perhaps, she acts like she doesn't know what Cerys is talking about because she doesn't know which lie Cerys found out.

Once, without a doubt it is confirmed that that Cerys knew about the false vow, and that it is clear that not enough time has built up to ease Cerys into it, not enough time has passed to make Cerys think that Karen would take care of Una anyway, she is forced to drop pretenses. Cerys not being calm, not being accepting here, means that Karen can't try to dance around the issue, she can't sweep it under the rug. Cerys won't be able to be as easily manipulated in the moment, except by rage and anger.

She takes the position of lounging in the chair, because she can't afford to act like she is not in complete control, can't afford to seem intimidated. Perhaps she could have sat normally, but she refuses to set this up as a conversation between equals.

She doesn't straight up lie by saying a better alternative didn't exist, because now Cerys ability to trust her been tanked too hard. To risky to say it because Cerys doesn't feel safe anymore, she'll ask questions to others.

She'll get answers. She'll know about Geas, eventually. Though Karen isn't going to spell it out to her, when she is so emotionally charged.

Knowing that Cerys will not ever be comforted by the false vow, she releases it. Better now, than in the future, especially if she has a need to break the vow in the future, which would tip Cerys off.

She explains herself, the reason why she lied, but does so without stating in what situations that she would have broken the vow. First because it is obviously not going to help the current situation, and second, because she wouldn't want Cerys on alert when it does come time to break the vow and she sees the signs.

She wants to continue working with Cerys, but knows the relationship between them is irreversibly damaged.

On the other side, unlike the situation with the vow, Cerys now has reason to hate the Counter Force. To not trust them.

If she cannot trust Karen without an unbreakable guarantee, then she definitely can't trust the Counter Force's offer of neutrality after they attempted to bomb Una.

Though, and I actually doubt it's an act here, she does somewhat bizarrely compliment Cerys on the strength of her bond to her sister. I say bizarrely only because Karen has been taking a clearly superior position, with the point of view that Cerys was the irrational one here.

This I believe was actually genuine. Perhaps something she can emphasize with, in regards to her mentor who passed away?

Perhaps the only part of this conversation that isn't carefully constructed by her.

She segues from Cerys comment about her being able to choose who is on top, to her prejudice against normals, to, as Cerys has surmised, deflect the issue.

As Cerys is in the state she is in, a happier interjection would have fallen flat.

Instead she introduces something that she'll know Cerys will take issue with, but ultimately take less issue with than the Una situation. An issue that would eventually have to be brought up to her anyway.

It would keep her angry yes, but the intensity of the anger would not be at the same level as the anger anything that is a danger to Una.

Cerys knowing about it now is better than it being the last straw later down the line when she is actually powerful enough to pose a threat to Karen.

Cerys eventually realizes that Karen intentionally changed the topic, but Karen's intention worked, she can't build up to the same level of anger, and realized that the situation she is in is hopeless currently.

Of course Karen does know that choosing to bind Cerys by force is not possible in the long term. Not conducive to living.

She also knows that she'll never be seen in a good light by Cerys again. She'll always be a villain in Cerys' eyes.

So she thinks of a way to bind Cerys to her organization without relying on force. Apparently a very good one.

Because Gaia reads her thoughts, and decides that she has let Karen play long enough, she'll not let Karen outright make Cerys hers.

Now lets talk about things a bit more recent then events of 7 months ago irl :V

Such as how much happier Karen was, the last time we saw her, during Dinner for Kneight because

Karen leans back in her seat, patting her stomach, a tiny burp escaping her mouth before she covers it with a giggle. "Why am I in a good mood?" She sits up straight. "For the first time in over a decade, your Mother has finally stopped poking at my thoughts, I've just had a delicious meal and this seat is very comfortable." She wiggles in it a little, propping one of her arms on the rest. "What reason don't I have to be happy?"

Gaia had let up on prodding Karen's mind.

and how she is back to normal now, which isn't really surprising because:

"You probably know why I'm here." She nods, picking up the rest of the cake with her fingers and eating it whole.

"I have a good idea, it helps that Gaia is rather strongly urging me to as well."

Gaia is back with prodding her once more.

I can't help but wonder if the reason that the reason why Cerys isn't as angry with Karen as she normally is despite not being tampered with by Gaia:

Gaia, are you dampening my emotions again? I feel like I should be much angrier with her than I am. [Nope, I learned that lesson.] Mmm. She probably isn't lying to you. Probably.

Is because for her, Dinner for Kneight was a bit more recent than for us, and because she is now more subconsciously sympathetic to Karen after Gaia's emotion removal stunt.

At the very least, Dinner for Kneight makes me wonder how different it would have been to work under a Karen that Gaia wasn't constantly poking the mind of.

[X] "I can work with you."

I think the lack of trust goes without saying here, and bringing it up would probably sour things a bit.

[X] "I can work with you."
Really just had a bit of a communication break-down due to some very odd priorities (I.E Cerys is one of those cray-cray MGs if Una gets involved.)

Just so that we're clear, here's a couple of facts about Karen. She is absurdly powerful.

You see that "Attack" spell, of level 186? Now, look at Karen having Laser as part of her offensive Protean abilities. Her final damage clocks at 2325*187=434'775 just from that alone.

Impressive? Depending on how her spellcasting is generated, she might do a one-turn charged blast of 20x the base damage. Additionally, look at her "Fists" weapon. It has Mana Steal, and Spell Boost. Besides the fact her strongest blast now clocks 500+ k, their combination allows her to reliably punch through our Alpha and Omega with spells, or specifically "Attacking Spells MM must be higher than yours or it be negated, otherwise doing 25% less damage."

So yeah, picking a fight with The Pinnacle is a bad, bad idea. Behind that cute face is a powerhouse that can send high tier demons packing. Or meet their most potent spells with one of her own (via Laser-Intercept), to utterly overwhelm the fools who dare confront her so.

Also, interesting thing to note - her "Attack" spell level, 186, is exactly twice her age, 93. Coincidence? Perhaps not. Best not expect her to remain static, is what I want to say.

Our "best chance" of killing her is catching her within Alpha and Omega by surprise while in Daiyu's company (should be enough to force her save-from-death), followed by a swift decapitation courtesy of Endless Soul. A team effort and a high risk strategy. Best not bother at all.

Laser allows to charge an attack, expending ApT for additional stacks of its Base Damage in a 1:1 ratio.

It does not multiply the damage with the attack's level.

That aside, you are rather accurate in that Karen is still plenty strong despite the growing Cerys did. She is The Pinnacle after all.

Laser allows to charge an attack across multiple turns though, to the limit of Laser stacks equal to spell/weapon level.

So damage x level is still the correct estimate for peak effort.

You do realise Karen would have to charge up for 35 turns to get there, right? That is close to six minutes of just doing nothing else and having no actions to defend herself with. It is suicide against anyone who warrants that level of power.

And even if she managed, it would just ping off Omega because Laser does not increase the MM.

Hence, why her Mana Steal and Spell Boost are important, as it halves our MM and grafts it to her spell on top of her own considerable contributions (all at a minimum 90%).

Also, in the hypothetical situation that kind of damage is warranted, she would not act alone, but would likely have an entourage to hold off the attackers.

We have seen those static defenses during the summoning rituals.

Finally, she also happens to have Lockdown as her attack Protean. Merely "big, strong and tough" will get paralyzed and then disposed of. It's the tricky ones that will give her trouble, and those are rarely tough.

I expect her "fair fight" battle with Cerys to consist of punching Cerys for Mana Steal, then pelting her with Lockdown bullets to disable her. Magic Surge or no, Alpha and Omega or no, she can at least stalemate us, if not launch a staggered salvo of spells to hit us for Synchronized Damage that overwhelms us.

Okay, look.

I would have to talk to Rukia how Spell Boost MM interacts with A&O's negation. But even if it added up to the Spell's MM, the stolen magic from Cerys would not count to it. Rather, I would think Omega steals it right back if Karen tries that.
Edit: We talked about it and concluded that Spell Boost's MM counts against the threshold, but Mana Steal's MM gets stolen back in the same instance.

Next, Cerys is an armykiller. No entourage that can not defeat Cerys by itself will live long enough to buy significant amounts of time for Karen.

Thanks to Omega, any Lockdown would not work for long and recasting it might even cancel the Laser-charge. If Omega is up, it would not even work in the first place.

Do not get me wrong, Karen has ways to reliably dispose of Cerys if need be. The strategy you are outlining is not among them, though.

Rereading some chapters, Karen and Cerys do have one thing in common:
They have a goal and Woe to all who stand in their way.

For Cerys it's her sister.
For Karen it's only been alluded to in DINNER FOR KNEIGHT.

'TIS A TIMESKIP
"You'll betray me eventually." Her smile doesn't waver in the slightest. "And I have no intentions of playing to your whims." If anything, she looks pleased.

"It's good to know how far you can trust someone." She stops leaning forwards, relaxing into her chair. "Only a fool would believe me if I said I would work with you honestly." You grunt, reluctantly agreeing with both the spoken and unspoken.

"Do as you like, but-" You narrow your eyes at her. "Leave my sister out of this. I don't care what plans you have for her, if I get even the slightest hint you have intentions towards her then I'll destroy you." She nods easily and you sigh. I don't know if I can actually take you, but your minions aren't as strong as you.

"I look forward to working with you." She slides out of her seat, nodding down at you as she moves past you. It takes an effort to restrain your twitch when she suddenly disappears from your sense, an eye over your shoulder finding an empty street. You don't know whether she's actually gone, or showing that she has some way to avoid your eye, but either way you drop your head back onto your seat with a long sigh.

"Gaia, just take me back." For once, she doesn't argue with you or try to prove some point and you find yourself draped over your Girlfriend's lap. She doesn't react beyond shifting so you aren't sitting on just one of her legs, letting you close your eyes as you get comfortable, the quiet thump of her heart against your ear lulling you to sleep.

The smell of food slowly pulls you from your rest, the sun gently creeping across your skin as it moves. "Mhgm." Your eyes feel oddly heavy as you force them open, Daiyu's amused gaze looking down at you as you rub at the sleep lining them. "What time is it?" She winces slightly as you sit up, the metal of your armour poking her as you uncurl from her lap. "Sorry." You move to get off, but she grabs your shoulder, pulling you back against her chest, your legs automatically curling up so you can fit on her lap.

"It's five." You nod, blinking as a thought occurs to you. Stupid. Your armour quickly fades, a quiet sigh of relief coming from your pillow. "Thank you." You nod before putting your head back down, listening to the thump of her heart beating. "Dinner will be ready soon." Dinner? You turn your eyes to the window, squinting as you look through the glare. The sun it setting.

"How long was I asleep for?" One of her hands starts running through your hair, the protest dying on your lips as her fingers rub against your scalp. Mhmm, this is good too.

"A day and a bit." You pause, her hands not stopping as you process the words. A day? You flex your leg, wincing at the way the muscles protest. Yeah, I can believe that. You bite your lip as a thought crosses your mind.

"I've been sleeping on you for an entire day?" She nods, her chin brushing against your hair. Oh. You wince sympathetically. That's really going to suck when she gets up. "I'm sorry, you should have moved me." She shakes her head, a lock of her hair swishing across your nose, leaving a tingling line across your skin.

"It's fine, I don't mind." You raise an eyebrow, though you know she can't see it. She hasn't gotten up at all? What about... You bite your lip, a tiny blush colouring your cheeks. I need to move. You sit up, slowly raising your arms and stretching, letting out tiny grunts as you feel your joints pop and crack. Ooh, that's better. You notice Daiyu watching you with wide eyes as a little moan slips out of your lips at the blissful feeling of pressure being released. What? Is there something on me? You let your arms drop onto the sofa behind her head, a hand resting either side as you look down at your clothes, the shirt hanging loosely on your chest. Nothing, just a little ruffled.

You jump slightly when she clears her throat, the deep noise rumbling in her chest as she quickly blinks, eyes somewhere below your own. "I can see your plate being served?" You blink, looking over to the quiet table, the occupants looking faintly uncomfortable as they look back. Eh? You push off of the sofa, legs sliding against Daiyu's until your feet meet the floor, hissing as you feel your muscles protest at your weight. You hear a quiet sigh behind you, sounding faintly relieved. Her legs probably hurt from me sitting there for so long. You try your best apologetic smile as she also stands, rubbing her numb legs.

"Don't wait for me to start." She calls over to the table, slowly making her way towards the stairs. "I'll be back in a minute." You watch her shakily climb the stairs, feeling a little bad at being the cause of so much of her discomfort. I'll have to do something to make it up to you... You shake your head, turning back to the table as you shelve the idea. A small wall of smiles greets you, even if your sister's looks a little shaky, she's trying her best. I need to talk to her.

"Thanks for waiting." A wave of nods as everyone starts picking up their cutlery, a plate full of sausages wrapped in bacon sitting before you. The meal passes in a semi-awkward silence, no-one really sure what they should say, if anything at all. The voice that breaks the silence, at least in your head, sounds strangely faint compared to her usual. [I guess that's the best resolution I could have hoped for.] You don't bother reacting, just taking another bite of your meal, confident that she already knows your question. [The two of you really are stubborn.] Ignore Ignore Ignore Ignore. Her body sighs, rolling her eyes slightly. [And petty, so very petty.]

You snort as you hear Daiyu on the stairs again. And you aren't? Her lips push up into a little pout, one her face really isn't made for, it makes her look slightly piggish. [Pssh, rude too.] I'm not the one constantly reading my mind. Besides, you shouldn't be offended by the truth. Wordless grumbling pokes you in the brain for a moment as you smile up at Daiyu, releasing the bit of control you'd been using to keep her food warm. She smiles back, lips curling further when she notices the still steaming food. Thank you. She mouths the words to you before she takes her cutlery and starts eating.

[Just about everyone is done then.] You cast your eyes around, finding that it is so. [On to your new job.] You frown, staring into space as you think at her. Can't we just... not? Just, give me some time to think? You blink at the silence following your statement, expecting an immediate refusal. [Well, you have been working hard... and I suppose that you can afford a week off...]

You set your cutlery on the table as gently as you can, staring at Gaia's avatar with wide eyes. Are you actually being reasonable for once? She twitches. [Don't push it.] No- no, thank you. It's nice to know that you aren't completely heartless. She mumbles something you can't make out and you reclaim your cutlery, musing as you finish your meal. A week of free time huh?

Just so we are all definitely on the same page:

Social votes are not counted to the action limit. You have two, no more.

Una's and Cerys' training draw from the same pool.

Edit: In addition, you are voting for the social focus, not the social actions. Those are on automatic and outside of your control.

I don't have the attention span to think about distributing 20 training actions atm, probably a couple should be into figuring out what the fuck Infinite Engine ACTUALLY does tho.

Confirmation from Discord that getting Una from Pre-Flight to Flight is two training actions.

Should we work on something like Gilgamesh's swordspam via Levitate + Limitless?

Working on our fundamentals seems like a good plan, as does figuring out what's up with Infinite Engine. Getting Una flight is also a good plan, as improved mobility means she can get out of danger much better, additionally, improving her magic should help with her support abilities, and improving her sword skill should help her defend herself better.

[X] Social Focus
-[X] Daiyu

Spending time with Daiyu is important, and we should probably get to know Cuifen better.

EDIT: we need to make sure Una is doing ok, and not trying to repress her emotions like us.

Would asking Gaia if we have any abilities that she gave us but we haven't found yet require a training action or would that fall more into social since it is less training and more talking?

Also could we ask Gaia for more in depth information about the various factions involved in the war? When I say in depth I mean literally anything about them. We know effectively nothing about the origins, organizational structure, attitudes or overall goals of either the Counter Force or the Clocktower beyond "they don't like each other and Gaia wanted them to fight to prepare them for when the barrier goes down". We also don't know what actions led up to the war and the reasons each faction has for fighting despite the imminent threat of demonic invasion. We have no idea what has happened in the war since it started to the point where I honestly don't think we were even told where we just fought which was supposedly where the heaviest fighting was. Like, who is winning? Who are the political/military leaders on either side and what are they like? Where is the fighting happening? How many people are fighting on either side? Who is attacking/defending? What military resources, such as magical girls or experimental equipment, does either side have? What does the public think about us and the war? You know, basic stuff so that when we arrive as the supposed counterpart of Karen and people are talking about the battle of X or about some important person on either side other than Karen, we actually have a basic understanding of what people are talking about.

You certainly could have, at literally any point before now. Any time in last 300k words.

Not now though, she's moving you from out under her wing, she'll help you get set up, but after that she's mostly going to leave you alone.
