Didn't Nanoha break her godamn core (which in universe is like breaking your spine) from overworking and overtraining?

Nanoha isn't a example to follow at all
Not exactly.

Due to how hardcore she had been training for a really long time, what would have been a major wound in battle became a life threatening wound.

She learns that what she did wrong though, and continues to train intensely, but not to the point that it's a health hazard.

Ends up in a wheelchair and has to relearn how to walk

It's not that small

[X] No, you'll decide to opt out of this one. While you like Lunmaon quite a bit, you're not sure how this might go over with Gramps, thus it might be better if she dropped things here.

24th Day Of Darkness: Gazimon Strikes! & Auger To The Rescue!
Winning Votes:

[] Yes, you'll agree to help Lunamon by watching her practice and eventually talking to Gramps about her performing in the festival.

Might not but fit, but I liked listening to this while writing.

===

The decision does not prove to be a particularly difficult one, and after thinking it over for a few seconds you give a semi-reluctant nod.

"Y-yeah I'll help with that Lunamon. Both with the umm practice and... Talking to Gramps about. About the f-festival"

"Yay! You're the best big brother!" The small rookie shouts, even as he hops forward to wrap her arms around your neck.

"Erk-you're welcome Lunamon" You reply, trying not to since from the pressure. Sure the hug didn't actually hurt, but it reminded you of the recent very awful dreams of last week. Thus it takes you a minute to compreshend her words. She'd called you *Big Brother* before but you'd never really registered it, but now that you think about it....

Big-big brother? S-sparks calls Flamemon that so... She thinks of me like that?! Sh-she looks up to me?!

In truth you don't know whether to be proud or horrified by that particular fact.

Eventually Lunamon lets go of your neck and after saying a goodby skips free of the hut humming the song she's just performed for you under her breath. With the matter of your *Little Sister* (the thought of it is still more than a little off putting) dealt with, you follow her example and leave the hut. Immediately you begin heading for the gates, looking forward to an afternoon free of worry where you can just peacefully dig just outside the walls without having to worry about fighting anything.

For a while that is what you're able to accomplish, tunneling through the dirt and just letting your mind relax. However much like anything else, it doesn't last. Just over an hour later, you come up from the orignal hole for a breath or air and are immediately ambushed by Auger.

"Verge!"

"Gah!" You flinch away from The Upamon shriek, having to resist the urge to cover your eyes and curl up into a ball. After a moments time your mind processes just who did the shouting and you turn to face the In-Training digimon with a raised eyebrow. "Auger? Wh-what are you doing here?"

"Wann-o dig! Gettreasure" He replies with a somewhat dopey grin.

He means one of the m-mineshafts. There shouldn't be any G-goblimon there but...

"Grampsaid is okay." Auger continues. "Comeon uh...?" He pauses mid-sentence, looking off into the distance for a few secondsbefore coming back to his sense. "Please."

"Well umm. Okay Auger. Let's-let's go then. I mean if Gramps said it was okay then it should be s-safe"

"Woot"

So with a nervous gulp, you acquiesce to the In-Training digimons request and start traveling towards the nearest mineshaft. Technically speaking, you could probably reach it fairly quickly on your own given just how much faster you've become in the past weeks, but with Auger along you're forced to move at a brisk walk. Unfortunately you companion is not the most talkative fellow, rather the hopping digimon quite literally spends his time drooling over the thoughts of what the two of you will be able to find. Meaning that you're mostly left to your thoughts.

During the latter end of the journey there, perhaps four-fiths of the way along, you spot something odd. A small mound of freshly dirt laying directly in the chosen path. Naturally you give it a wide berth, not wanting to get near anything suspicious like that. Auger is not nearly so cautious and merely plods along towards it without a care in the world. Fearful of what might happen to him, you scamper forward intending to pick the In-training mon up and rush around.

You scoop up Auger not more than a foot from the mound, stand up and start moving away-

"Pitfall!"

-Only to flinch as the earth suddenly explodes, sending clods of dirt everywhere. You catch the feint sight of a grey streak before a line of pain opens up across your right side.

"Argh!" Dropping Auger, you raise your paws defensively and whirl towards the pained side, frantically looking around for the digimon who'd caused said wound.

Luckily, you manage to pivot just in time to see the speedy digimons seconds strike.

"Gazimon Claw!" A decidely feminine voice roars out

With a leaping charge, the furred rookies claw whistles through the air on a direct course for your eyes, but just before the Gazimons attack makes contact, your furred arm sweeps it aside. Instead of losing an eye you merely take another painful if shallow gash and the hostile rookie slams into your body. Several weeks and two feet of height ago the force of her tackle would have stumbled you, but you've grown quite a bit since then. The Gazimon bounces off of your stalwart frame and drops right to the ground.

You throw a jab down at their body but the mon snakes away from the blow, bending to avoid your strike before springing up to her hind legs lashing out with a quick swipe of her own. The next seconds pass in a constant flurry of exchanges as you block the attacks swipes while unsuccessfully trying to land counter. Unfortunately the enemy mon proves to be ridiculously fast and agile, twisting away from your punches and slaps. Meanwhile her attacks clip off bits and pieces of your heavy fur and draw shallow wounds across your arms. Soon it's clear that you're the more skilled combatant here, the problem is that this mon is just to fast for you to normally hit.

Then as she comes leaping in with claws poised to stab your throat, you finally manage to spot an opening. All it requires is looking down.

*Schlick*

"Gak!" The mon lets out a yowl of pain as your long and very sharp nose pierces her chest. She tries to pull back, but that leaves her next movement entirely predictable.

"Mach Jab!" In the next moment your fist crashes straight into her face.

She's sent flying back across the ground, before her hindquarters clip into a tree stopping her momentum. Wobbly the Gazimon gets back back to her and lets out a week snarl, you stay standing in front of Auger guarding him in case the rookie tries to target the weaker member of your party. The digimon doesn't charge straight back into combat, instead content to start padding around you looking for potential weaknesses. You try to put on a strong face, gritting your teeth through the pain and glaring back at the offending rookie.

A minute passes as you stay on the defensive, only making small steps to follow along with her position. At last she stops, turns towards you and gets low, crouching as if in preparation to leap in. You brace yourself for the definite charge, eyes narrowed to predict and potentially counter her next attack.

"Electric Stun Blast!"

Huh?!

Which leaves you completely unprepared as she breathes out a sudden burst of electricity. Pain wracks across your frame as the lighting strikes and suddenly you muscles stop responding. Even as you slump down she pounces. Now paralyzed and completely undefended you can't even do so much as scream as the Gazimon claws at your belly.

"Getoff im!"

"Upamon Digivolve To!"

"Armadillomon!"

"Rolling Stone!" The newly evolved Auger shouts before slamming into your foe.

*Crash*

Even without his prior strength and speed, your digging buddies weight is more than enough to send the virus-type digimon attacking you soaring away. While it gets up a few moments later seemingly non the worse for wear, the prospect of facing off against two rookies seem to be too much for it. She looks at the two of you gives a sudden whine then scurries away soon entirely vanishing from sight. It takes another few seconds for the paralyzing effects to wear off.

"Woot! I'm uh.. A rookie again" Auger grins looking down at his new(?) claws.

"Th-thanks Auger" You say with a sigh of relief.

If he hadn't helped then-then....

You shudder at the thought.

"Come on Verge we uh.. gotta dig." Auger says, turning towards the mine shaft and jogging forward. You hurriedly scramble after him, not wanting to be alone in case it comes back. He seems more energetic now than the last time you'd seen him as a rookie.

Upon arriving at the nearest mine shaft, the two of you discover that most of the expanded area has been stripped clean of crystal patches. But thankfully further near the back, you manage to find some crystals that haven't been mined out. Breaking them apart proves to be easier than ever, even if Auger isn't able to do much your newly developed strength, weight and skill allow you to easily dig out and break apart the *treasure* What's more thanks to your bag storing it is easy.

Auger is very happy to be able to dig again, and as you return to the village spends the entire time ripping at the ground with his claws.

We should try to get 100 in a few stats before we focus too heavily on magic right now. Healing magic is important yes, but so is being able to fight

So, Auger has become a rookie again. Is still pretty weak all things considered but at least he can potentially fight again.

Funny thing though. Verge is actually stronger and tougher than Aufer right now.

Yeah, going to want to up our speed here. Since without a range attack or AOE of any kind we are screwed if we run into anyone faster then us like this encounter just showed us.

5 more to go before we see any payout at all. Best do it while we're in a safe zone
I've heard of Precure before but I must admit I have no idea what that actually is.
Magical girls, they do fistfights more than colorful beams beyond the handholding powered finishers. I think the newer iterations are also sentai-based.

Magic! Magic! Magic! And unlocking those stats!

We're decently buff, and for all I know, we could have a bit of a breakthrough here.

Well Verge wasn't totally screwed in that fight. He actually won the melee engagement. He might even have won if it had co tinted and rage had been procced.

But yes as of right now, in a straight up fight Verge is more or less helpless against any kiting build that's faster than him.

Well, when not taking his ability to dig into account at least. At rookie level and indeed even champion level sometimes using the ground as a shield is quite effective, with the ambush potential being quite high.

Still useless against flyers though.

Huh, neat.
Also Auger was sure quick on getting his Rookie form back.
Indeed. As it turns out not having limbs kinda sucks, so he was very intent on getting back to his rookie form. The training really helped him advance, though I'll also note it has to do with de-digivolving itself. It doesn't knock someone back to square one of their previous evolution so Auger wasn't quite a *Fresh* In-Training mon. Normally it takes a couple weeks for one to become a rookie anyway so.... Yeah.

Beyond that, as far as stats go, interesting note is that compared to the last time around Auger is actually a bit stronger now than the last time he evolved. Mostly thanks to that training.

Anything to avoid the reflexive "gotta make the stats equal" vote. I honestly don't care about magic, I just feel like having those stats unlocked early would be beneficial.

After returning to the village, you make a beeline for Sorcerymon while Auger runs off to go inform the others of his recent evolution. The magical champion is more than happy to exchange the crystals you'd gathered for three thousand bits and even goes so far as to heal your scratches free of charge. Just before you leave to give Auger his share, Sorcerymon invites you to another evening of tutoring and of course you're more than happy to take him up on his offer.

Under his oversight, you continue your study of the first spell and start understand part of it. Or at least that's what you think at least. By your estimation perhaps it might take another four sessions before you're ready to recite it for real and actually succeed. While you're a bit sad that you haven't been able to spend more time with Flamemon, after what he said on the training hill... well, it hurts to admit but you're honestly glad to get a little space from him.

In the night you get yet another strange (if relatively harmless) dream. Once more it's a blurry affair almost akin to seeing through a thick layer of fog where you meet that strange Gabumon once again. From what you can remember in the morning It took place in a cave of some sort where you waved hello to the other rookie. He waved back, suddenly started grinning maliciously then started trying to steal your coat. Thankfully you managed to get away, waking up just before the digimon could catch you.

You ended up chalking the reason for these strange dreams up to something reasonable. Namely how much you miss Gnaw, the former BlackGabumon had been a good companion even if he'd been scary at times. Both his absence and how things he'd departed were still painful things to think about.

Coming up on the next day, things go more or less the same as last time. There's a few chores in the morning, you watch another one of Lunamon's performances and finally get some digging done to relax. However, when the afternoon comes along, something odd happens.

You enter through the village's gates during what would normally be lunch time, but instead of spotting the village's caretaker stirring the pot on a step-ladder like normal, Gramps is intently watching over a trio of recently fallen eggs. Morbidly curious over what's happening, you trek over to the old Elecmon's side and ask him what's going on.

"Hrm, Verge? Mm. Waiting until they hatch." He explains laconically, not taking his gaze off the weakly wobbling eggs for even a moment. "Some can fly, I have to grab them before they get away. Spirits above, if I told you what happened to..." Gramps suddenly trails off mid-sentence. "You've grown a lot, Verge." Elecmon suddenly continues, his face curled up into a warm smile. "By The Ten Legendary Warriors, let it be known that you've made me proud."

Wh-where's all this coming from? Why is he complimenting me? I-I'm not that different... Am I?

You feel your cheeks heat at the compliments, but before you can ask what he means there's a small *Crack*

The first of the three eggs gets a small crack near the top, something that rapidly expands as whatever is inside tries to break free. You watch with a nervous swallow, but manage to suppress your fear standing firm as the baby digimon inside continues its struggle. It goes on for roughly ten seconds before a final effort shatters the eggshell in its entirety revealing the newly born little red ball to the world at large.

"Graar" It growls 'viciously', his beady little black eyes glaring first at you, then towards Gramps. It takes a few moments to eye the two rookies standing in front of it then gives a small nod and turns to directly face you. Before you can so much as blink in surprise, the baby digimon attacks, blasting a stream of bubbles up at your chest. Despite your best attempt, you can't help but let out a low chuckle as the warm attack tickles your fur.

"A Jyarimon, huh?" Gramps mumbles, completely ignoring the *attack* on your person.

As if taking your laugh for a cry of pain, the baby digimon jumps forward and latches its jaw around the thick fur on your chest. The Jyarimon chews at your thick grey undercoat for a few seconds, but can't get through the overly fluffy material at all. You contemplate trying to pry it off, but decide not to risk harming the little guy, instead choosing to just let the baby tire itself biting at your fur.

Eventually It does manage to get through a small portion of your hair, though that only ends up having it fall back to the earth constantly spitting and coughing. After the tiny digimon finishes getting the fur out of his mouth, he lets out a tired yawn, growls threateningly up at you once again... Then proceeds to hop forward and snuggle against your leg.

"Been a while since one of those hatched here." Gramps says with a frown, peeking down at the resting baby mon. "Hrm, that one may be a troublemaker. Spirits Above let it not be so."

O-okay?

The next egg hatches in a different manner entirely. Instead of bursting open, the top part of the shell itself breaks off letting a small furry looking digimon pop free. Soon thereafter it does, and a small gust wind passes by, blowing it up into the air. In the next instant a red blur shoots out, snatching it out of the sky. The scarred Elecmon lands a moment later with the newly born digimon held firmly between his paws.

"A Yurmaon..." Gramps announces with a small wrinkle of his nose. "Hmm. Have to plan this somewhere." he muses to himself.

"P-plant it?"

"Yes." The village's caretaker promptly replies. "They settle on the ground in a safe place and absorb nutrients." he explains smiling warmly at the fresh mon. "Often they become plant digimon. Fu started off as one of these."

"Really?" you question, looking at the passive ball held in his hands. It's hard to even imagine Fu being one of these at any point in time.

"Mhm."

The last egg to hatch is the most violent out of all of them, with one side of the dark egg just suddenly bursting open to reveal a metallic looking fresh mon. It takes one look at you with its puny red eyes, then turns tail and starts fleeing across the ground. Not that it's all that successful given just how slow the mon proves to be, only moving at a small crawl. You're pretty sure that you could tunnel through stone faster than it can walk. All in all it takes Gramps perhaps three steps to catch up and then grab it.

"A Choromon." Gramps says, completely ignoring its struggles. The fact remains that this is a baby digimon, it has absolutely zero chance of escaping the caretaker's grasp; even its electricity just seems to bounce off his body.

"Verge," The old rookie starts, looking back down towards the small digimon sleeping against your leg. "Would you like to take care of one?"

A-another ward? I mean Lunamon is a rookie now so I guess she's fine but... should I?"
