In every age, a strong and heroic girl is selected to receive magical powers and fight the forces of darkness. The most recent choice goes by the name of Ranma.
This was based on an old series of stories from an Anime Fanzine called Anime Sqared from the 90s that I was helping to write for. This was one story that never saw the light in the ongoing series there based on a weird school and a few members of the cast had Ranma-style curses from the springs. Check out the notes at the end to learn more about the story.

Ranma didn't have many plans for the future, but he knew that getting engaged to some girl hadn't even met was not part of them. After a particularly ordinary -- by Nerima standards -- day, Ranma wakes up in a strange forest in the body of a small winged unicorn. As far as odd things go, this is certainly amongst the strangest she's ever dealt with.
Following the fall of the Silver Millennium, an important soul goes a little... astray. Fast forward to Nerima and Ranma Saotome is looking for a solution for the reoccurring magic issues in his life. The solution for some of them presents itself in a most curious form, a talking black cat with a golden crescent moon upon its forehead telling him that he's a Princess.
Ranma had always had an idea what was wrong, but never quite the words or the freedom to reach the truth, until she was knocked into the Spring of the Drowned Girl and everything became clear. Now, Ranma intends to make this liberation stick
