SALT is short for Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, and START I and II are the STrategic Armament Reduction Treaties.

You know, the "how about we don't nuke the world" treaties :V

Which are a good thing here, in real life. But make almost zero sense when there is walking, talking aliens standing across from you that tell you that if you don't have a strategy to fend off invaders from any one of the dozens or retardedly aggressive races out there that you will become a slave race soon. Oh, and that they have the know how to make what you need, the ability to make it, and the means, you just have to ok it. Did I mention that the 'alien' is a known superhero on a bullshit level? Ya, I'd consider changing laws.

That doesn't even get into the fact that the JLA could counter any nuclear launch fairly easily, even if the missiles are warded and they have to do it by eyeball.

Damn, now I wonder how this character assassination from Mr Zoat appears to other members of the JL in-story. We never see Dr Fate doing his thing because of the single Point Of View but everyone should keep in mind that Fate is a superhero, doing work for a superhero organization along with other things in his own time.

Please don't disrupt SALT and/or START
He sort of has to. The Earth needs bigger and better weapons and it needs some of them in space. His position is that as the League is a supernational entity it is free to build whatever weapons it wants to fulfil its UN mandate. Otherwise Superman violates it whenever he goes into space.
Although why is Hawkwoman acting so butthurt over Paul using a hypothetical example of Thanagarian privateers? Hawkman didn't say anything negative about that choice.
That sort of comes back to why they're on Earth in the first place.

Are the Hawks on Earth to do a secret long term assessment on whether or not Thanagar should be using privateers or expanding in the general area of Earth for their own interests? Or would the oddness of Earth and to an extent the Martians open up a Pandora's Box of shit?

How to put this with it being too much of a spoiler...

The races of 2814 are more advanced than any currently lying within the borders of Thanagarian space. There have been discussions on how Thanagar should deal with such peoples.

Oh, that box is already open. They just want to avoid getting too much of it on them.

You mean orange beetle. Cuz it will be orange. And it will be OLs

Thus it is written (By me)
Thus it shall be (if I am good at guessing)
Paul has experience with external stimuli attempting to change his priorities, and his body's integrity is constantly monitored and maintained.

As someone that can merely rip off the offended body chunks and grow new ones, he is uniquely suited to test out Kord's paperweight.

That's ominous, given Thanagarian Imperial proclivities.
Then again, failing to keep a precautionary eye on the shenanigans in Sol System would be stupid.
And Thanagarians aren't stupid.

Of course, sticking your todger into a star system with a Martian population and at least 3 Green Lanterns is very delicate business.
Wonder what Thanagarian Intelligence , or all the other intelligence agencies keeping an eye on a nexus of Lantern activity, thought when Klarion went ham on the time-space continuum.

I was pleased to note that the Watchtower's interdiction systems are back online, but you're still got a situation where anyone advanced enough to make it to this system can send sub-light probes towards the Earth
You've still got
How many characters in this story have orange speech marks?
Quite a few actually. It's just that the rest also have orange speech as well.
Kinda surprised he didn't mention the Reach among his examples.
In addition to the treaty they have with the Guardians, where they can't go anywhere they're not invited and stuff like that, it's similar to why he didn't really mention a serious attack by Apokolips: there is absolutely no hope for the League to even meaningfully slow them down. Beetles and New Gods are individually strong enough to fight even the toughest Leaguers in a straight fight, and it certainly won't be. Plus, there are many more New Gods and Beetles than the 6 or so Leaguers that can actually fight in space. It's like why you don't have emergency evacuation plans if your house is hit by a nuclear warhead; there's really nothing you can do to stop it or even minimize the damage.

It's part of why OL is so big on upgrading humanity in general and recruiting a Corps; there's only so much that a small number of superheroes can do. Something like, say, a Dannered humanity armed with mass-produced schizotech and a treaty with an Orange Lantern Corps would be a far harder target for alien conquerors.

This isn't restricted to post-Enlightenment Orange Lantern, though (and if it were, that would be weirdly inconsistent).

You also tend to have long conversations with no quote tags and little to no narration, and in those, it's often hard to tell who said something. Sometimes I have to go back a post or two and count carefully, but counting carefully assumes that you are using the official quote style and there are only two speakers.

Thank you, corrected.

I generally indicate if there's a change in speaker.

"I may be pushing my luck here, but how do you feel about me coming back in four months, gutting the green light systems from the Watchtower and bringing it up to full operating capacity with an orange battery?"

Didn't Abra Kadabra have some kind of fear about Orange Lanterns running wild in the future and the planet being overcome by the orange light? Also, Is it really a smart idea to surround the most powerful people in the planet in a constant glow of orange light?

Who is this? I am aware of Captain Atom, but not a Major? And I'm pretty sure his civilian identity (in which case it would be "Adam", not Atom) was only ever a Captain as well. Did he get promoted when I wasn't looking?

Yep, a while ago.

"Recognised, Atom, two two."

He turns back with a small smile. "Actually, it's 'Major'. Since I got cleared of murder the new guy in overall command decided I was worth promoting."

"Congratulations!"

Treaties which, in the context of a world where alien invasions are actually fairly likely and extraterritorial superhumans which could disarm or negate missiles in flight exist, are completely obsolete and actively harmful.

I mean, there are much better options in this complex world of laser gorillas and phase shifters.

Well, damn, guess I was just suffering a memory lapse, then. Awesome that he got some recognition!
Or just promoted at all. It's weird how in so many works - not just comics - a character with a particular rank will just stay at that rank indefinitely. It makes it stand out when someone is in fact actually promoted.

You'd think that someone who saves their country/civilization/the world/the galaxy every few episodes would get promoted for it, but apparently not.

They're probably going to consider this residual trauma from the simulation incident. :p

"Now, Paul, we understand why you think we need better space defenses. . ."
