Ah, the dreaded Hype Backlash.
Worm has been going strong in popularity on the SV/SB/QQ trifecta for years.

It is not "hype backlash" because I have never read Worm before. I just am tired of people talking about it like it is the Holy Grail or something. It is more Hype Aversion. I cannot really explain it, but I really don't think anything in it would be my cup of tea, especially with darker and edgier superheroes being overdone. The number of times "darker and edgier" in superheroes has been done right can be counted with one hand.

As for Madoka... my feelings for it are a bit more complicated. When I first watched Madoka, I loved it. But now I hate it, mostly because of how it destroys all other magical girl shows, even ones that are better than it in every aspect. Now, you cannot make an magical girl show at all without it trying to rip off Madoka in some way, shape, or form. Especially on this website.

Poot. "I'm a very mature eighteen." Feels really odd to be on this side of this conversation. "I have a steady job, I'm independently wealthy, I-."

She shakes her head. "And I'm sure you'll make a great boyfriend. For someone.. your own age. It.. wouldn't.. be-"

"When I mean mature, I mean I only look eighteen."

Selina paused. She blinked and peered at me inquisitively.
Fixed that for you.

Eh, I don't know about that, but it is definitely an improvement over what happened in there.

In all honesty, this story would be better without the shiptease. I liked it better when Paul suppressed his testosterone levels. Back then, there wasn't so much focus on that kind of garbage.

Oh yeah cause him being unable to tell when someone was interested in him (even though he has empathic vision and is supposed to be smart) was so much better, not that it has changed much considering he wasn't able to read Melinoë cues even though he was interested in her. Let's be honest the only reason he hasn't managed to get some the moment he wished to was because Zoat didn't want it to happen that way, for someone in his position it would be painfully easy to have sex.

I find this very odd. Like, what's wrong with it? It's just another form of character interaction and one that I think is quite reasonable and in-character. Not to mention it gives Paul another goal to work towards and shows another side of him that we don't get to see as frequently. In short, it makes him feel real, which is key in this type of story.

It gets hard to empathize with characters that lie to other characters for no good reason, and its harder to feel anything for characters who go out to try and find a girlfriend just because.

"Try and find a girlfriend just because"... He wants to have a relationship. Is he just supposed to sit on his thumb and wait for the universe to dump one onto his lap?

??? Are you telling me that you've never put up a facade that you later realized was completely pointless? He just hasn't realized the pointlessness of it yet is all. It's a very human trait, Orange Enlightenment or not.

...do you just not have hormones? Because seriously, being in a relationship is another very human urge, and I find it outright bizarre that you don't seem to understand that. I mean, I've never been on a date in my 21 years of life, but I still see where Paul's coming from here, so I'm not sure why you don't have any empathy for that desire. Humans are wired for connection, and romance is a deeper and more fulfilling form of connection (at least, assuming it's reciprocated on both sides).

His excuses at the time made some degree of sense, at this point he's just stuck in his lie. There's nothing surprising about wanting some a girlfriend.

And on another level, all of OL's needs on Maslow's hierarchy besides love/sex have been met for a while. It simply makes sense for him to cover it. Plus, it hasn't been all that long since Valentine's day in story.

No, he can just not get one. It's not that big a deal.

Yes, it is human, but we don't watch superheroes so that they can be realistic. I cannot empathize because it would not be something I would lie about. If I understood why he would lie, maybe it would make more sense. But he never explains. As for sex... I don't understand it at all. Romance might be wired into your brain, but I have never felt unfulfilled by not having a girlfriend. Paul's desire for a relationship comes across as the whining of a teenager who wants to get laid so he/she can brag to their friends about it.
