Sbouldn't that be "ontology"? Epistemology is the study of knowledge, whereas ontology is the study of being. The above seems to be saying "the nature of superheroes / the way superheroes do their thing", which is a matter of being.

I think this one was guessed on one of the SB threads and dismissed. If I had to speculate (sorry, @Silverias!), I'd say it's Chander or one of its permutations.
