Can I get a short and concise explanation of what the hell is going on!
This is the SI's first moments on the China dominated Earth that we've been seeing for the last two updates. The entire episode seems to be a glimpse of an alternate timeline created by a foe of the Legion of Superheroes called the Timetrapper, who is apparently a Controller here. Presumably we'll get a bit of an explanation over the next week (did anyone see any invisitext?)

These would be fine to explore in like, off-shoot stories that don't affect the actual update rate. Like, if Zoat released an update of regular Paul and this Paul daily, until this Paul vanishes forever.

Zoat is writing another pointless alt universe that's probably not going to effect anything, and will be forgotten about in a month.

'member when people talked about Renegade like this? I 'member.

I don't really mind the alternate timeline/universe stuff itself, it's just frustrating that it feels like Paul has no significant agency right now. Everyone wants Enlinghtened!Paul back, but Current!Paul doesn't know that he's a victim of time travel shenanigans and so it seems that the only way for him to return to himself is outside intervention. Meanwhile he'll be bumbling around in the new world, completely unaware of the problem.

My problem with early-Renegade was that it was just some asshole getting away with everything and we didn't get to see him struggle. It was just the main universe, but worse. Alt-China-Paul isn't like early Renegade. It's an entirely different universe.

This is an interesting change of pace (the relationship talk last update was a bit of an odd choice), and I find it neat. Even if I didn't like it, so what? If this thread were updated weekly, I could understand complaints, but as is, we get daily updates, and as such, I find any complaints about 'this update/plot/arc is a waste of time!' to be a bit absurd.

Well I guess the issue with that is, Regular Paul doesn't currently exist. Time Trapper blasted our Paul back to 2011, allowing the timeline changes to affect him, transforming him into who I am tentatively calling Anime Paul due to the Asia-dominated Earth.

I would agree with you, but Zoat has made some really odd, really bad design choices during the last two episodes so I'm not optimistic that this one will be interesting and actually worthwhile. So far, he's already made some odd choices this episode. Will the trend of badly designed or badly organized episodes continue? The verdict is still out.

I, for one, am looking forward to when Primary-Insert-Orange Lantern has to integrate the memories of Secondary-Sino-Insert-Orange Lantern, and really look forward to see what sorts of technology he will then bring to the timeline.

I actually really dig the alt universe stuff.

One of my favorite parts of a story is when the protagonist is just getting his/hear bearings, learning about the world, and pressured by unknown and potentially more powerful foes. Right now in the main story, Paul has built up so much strength and advantage that it's kind of low stakes, especially when if things get truly dire he can call in an entire lantern corp, the Darkstars, some Controllers, multiple fleets from other miscellaneous space faring allies, and the friggen Ophidian on top of all the other things he's acquired or done to strengthen himself.

With the alt timeline, we get to enjoy the lower power early/midgame cape dynamic again, which I find really compelling.

the most recent part (and the next one) are a flashback to show this version of the SI's first day in this world. Except where Paragon and Renegade were orbiting a fairly standard DC Earth, this one is dealing with a rather different Earth. Parts 5 and 6 will be back to the 'present'.

I am curious if Timetrapper planned for this or if the timestream being destabilized caused this timelime accidentally (either way, doing that to OL probably got the Legionaires mad at the Trapper, not to mention the Superfangirl)

Just because the last two episodes didn't appeal to your tastes doesn't mean they were 'bad choices'. I for one enjoyed the last couple episodes.

Is that the Ophidian egging him on?

It kinda seems like when OL got time-whammied it wasn't able to get rid of the Ophidian, but OL has to start over.

No, or at least I'm pretty sure it's not. It might be a while since you read it, but before OL's enlightenment, he would have... pulses of avarice, for lack of a better term.

Since he's reached the point that he's constantly aware of his wants, and their priority, he hasn't had any of those pulses. In this alternate timeline, we're back to seeing his wants in fits and starts, where one of them comes to the forefront.

But hey, it gives him another chance to mishear "My name's Eris" as "Seris"

It's even less arcane than that. He's panicking because he's not at home, he's in a world with supervillains and all the horrors of the DC universe and one of his two advantages is now worthless - hiss prior kbnowledge is inapplicable and his other great advantage is on a ticking clock, because the ring will run out of power.

So right now Paul is scared, confused and has a power ring amplifying his greed and worry. Not a good combination.

Mmm no, I quite remember Ambush bug, the Queen of Fables, and the boy love tease that was Black Mercy.

You know, it's almost as if Zoat has this big ass time skip to chew through between the Young Justice seasons. So on one hand, he has a lot of time to fill, and on the other, he's wide open to do just about any kind of story that appeals to him. And that's important you know, that Zoat continues to enjoy what he's doing as, quite frankly, he's not getting paid and can quit any time.

There is also the matter of not changing too many things between the start of the timeskip, and the end of it, so those plots can still go forward. Also, given that he's played around with alternate Paul's before, and there was bitching then, only for the majority to go "Well that was trippy and fun, weird arc, but cool nonetheless." So, how about you all just chill?

Except for Hmmaster. Who is here because for the love of all the gods, we need someone to tell us how terrible things are, and have been. Let us all appreciate his sacrifice.

To the point, I get it, it boils down to Zoat's update style. He updates every day yes, but we get little chunks, and then you have to wait till tomorrow. Frustrating, because god damn it, I wanna know what happens.

Huh...kinda like the monthly issue of a comic book no?
