In this story at least humans seem to have an inherent set of superpowers:
1) Metahumanity - a low chance of becoming a metahuman, which can give you pretty much any power imaginable, capable of making you stand on the level of cosmic entities. As a species it's one hell of an inherent superpower
2) Arcane plasticity. Out of all observed species humans are the only ones with high level of inherent ability to be modified by magic / soul engineering that we saw. There is a reason, I believe, why aliens don't have their own Atlantises with magically-modified subspecies, or Danner/Garrick formulas, and why only humans are compatible with New God ascension, while non-Earth species aren't.

What makes you think everyone is a potential metahuman in this fic? In the comics only 12% have the metagene, what makes you think Zoat increased it?

As for your second suggestion, that's already been proven false in this story. Dr Fate- Lord of Order from the planet Cilia, he says hi, while being an alien that used the ritual of ascension to connect his soul to the cosmic principle of order.

Zum, the white martian who gained superspeed through magic, also says hi.

Really? This asshole?
Well, we never did have a real resolution with him. Heck, his 'episode' was pretty much offscreen since Paul wasn't involved, so the first that was mentioned of him IC was when there was the idea to use the Sword of Beowulf to charge up Rob/Cornwall Boy.

One does have to wonder where/when he got the knowledge to pull this, though. It's been well over half a year since Halloween, so if he could always do so I would have expected him to have pulled something earlier if at all. And if he had been in a bad enough condition where he needed a lengthy recuperation period after facing Zatanna and Artemis, I would have thought it would have been mentioned one way or another.

So, two comments for tonight's installment!

First, Harm! For those who don't know his antecedents, Harm originated in the original Young Justice comic by Peter David. He's basically Evil Robin, in that he's a very competent teenage supervillain who was implied to have the potential to grow up to be as dangerous as Batman/Prometheus when he was full grown. In said comic, he defeated the entire Young Justice team singlehandedly, and in fact was only stopped when his foster father shot him by surprise because said foster father realized Harm was going to grow up to be an unstoppable murderous supervillain. In Young Justice the cartoon, he's rather less dangerous, but still worrisome, especially here as we're likely to see some of that Evil Potential as Mister Zoat likes taking semi-obscure comic ideas and running with them.

Second, on Thanagarian Demonology! While Onimar Synn is the most well known ancient Thanagarian Evil, there's also another, less commonly known one, Thasaro, the Fallen One. He's relevant because he was imprisoned on Earth by Shayera Thal's ancestor. To the best of my knowledge he only really showed up in a Prestige Format limited series, but it was a good one that worked off of the Silver Age Thanagarian Hawks. This may or may not be relevant given the YJ Hawks are former Thanagarian police. Since Mister Zoat has the YJ Hawks work out of Saint Roch like the more recent versions of the Golden Age Hawks rather than Midway City as the Silver Age Hawks did, I can't say one way or another whether Thasaro might show up.

It was mentioned by Mr Zoat, just not in-story. Harm ended up Harmed when he tried melee combat with a Dannered Artemis; the incident was much shorter and one sided than in canon.

Huh... I'd tried to check for WoG stuff, but I guess I ended up missing that one way or the other.

Ah well. Now we wait to see if he's actually a viable threat to Paul (who presumably has a decent charge level on his rings) and the Hawks, or is going to get the second surprise curbstomp of his rather lackluster-to-date career.

hmm, let's see. demonic magitch powered robot, with an atlantean runic array. well the light allied with hell and went through some trouble to retrieve ocean master's corpse. A direct line to hell might make getting ocean master back into the game easy if they could nip down to hell to nab his soul, so my guess is a demonically reanimated ocean master is acting as the lights non-crazy magic guy. So the robot was built by the Brain and ocean master, likely as either a lure or a test run. As for Mr uninteresting, my guess is a demon decided a heart of near pure evil made him a good pawn and sprung him before pumping him full of mojo. His patron may or may not be working with the light, given the timing I suspect he's there to retrieve the robot for his patron or to take care of what a presumably absent or malfunctioning self-destruct system didn't.

An Atlantean probably wouldn't go to Hell; wrong religious background. EDIT: And Zoatninjaed, I see,

He's probably been resurrected anyway, though.

Y'all're on the same page, here. Overall, a given Human has a higher chance of spontaneously developing abilities no other Human has, than any other species has of transcending their respective limitations.

Not if you don't have the metagene, not that a lack of metagene really stops people.

Like Starfire, and her sister, and her brother, and her husband, and her deity, in point of fact, who all gained super- for their species powers thanks to the Psions.

Although I suppose Zoat could always go with the cartoon and have energy blasts be a normal tamaranean trait, we'll just have to wait and see about that.

The thing about super origins is that some are explained by the metagene, in which case you can't really duplicate them. But some origins have nothing to do with the metagene, and so can be reproduce with anyone.

Magic is possible for other species, obviously (even if it seems humans have the most developed magics around). However, it's telling that only Earth-based life can be ascended to new godhood. I mean, I could buy Danner and Garrick formulas only working on Earth-based life because of it being developed for and by Earth-based life. But new godhood ascension is a combination of Apkolyptian and Maltusian technology. It shouldn't preferentiate humans, unless there was an objective reason for it.

So, ok, I'll concede that it might be possible for members of other species to get super powers (for their species), but it seems much easier for humans, and, more importantly, the changes seem to stick around.
Not if you don't have the metagene
The existence of meta-gene at all in a large portion of a population is a species-scale superpower.

Mr Zoat said a long time ago that it was essentially their version of Awakening; which is why when taken to the limit the result was a goddess.
