And we meet the Zoat Diabolus ex Machina. I find it incredible hard to believe that someone who doesn't even know what a God is captured the soul of one.
What not? One lump of magic energy is much like another. He'd struggle to do anything clever with it, but then he doesn't really need to.
Plus you know he is a lame copy of Victor Von Doom Sorcerer Supreme.
They have part of their name in common, yes. Cursitor post-dates Victor by seven years so it isn't impossible that he was one of the inspirations, but given the differences in their characters I find it unlikely.

Don't old gods lose every time they face new gods for some reason?

And well, since you brought the Endless into this, don't mortals who try to take control of gods and so on always have a bad end?

Of course in the short term Grayven is screwed.

Reminds me of Pact.

Grayven is acting quite a bit like Conquest of Toronto in ways, and has fallen into the same issues.

He claimed himself the God of Conquest and then lost a fight to conquer the castle.
Conceptually, which seems to make up a sizable part of the New God power methodology, his power as a being of Conquest isn't really his now.
He lost, ergo, he was Conquered. His own theme says that Doom should have power over him now.
Doom beat him at his own game and is now reaping the spoils.

You can't really call yourself the God of Conquest if you yourself get conquered, can you?

One could say that Conquest =/= Victory. That in order to properly represent his cosmic subject, Grayven has to experience and understand both sides of it. He could potentially come out of this more godly than ever.

Ex: Can a god of marriage get a divorce?

I imagined Doom sounding like Christopher Lee.

Me too. Specifically Count Dooku.

So earth-16 gods seem to be really weak and easy to control as if the scene with eris and gavyern suggest. So earth magicins are above most gods. Then why do amazons who know of magic actually worship them?

It's not quite as clear cut as "wizards and witches and whatnot, thanks to their sorcerous arts, are more powerful than gods and can bully them or kill them at their leisure".

It's more like... there are a lot of rules. A practitioner of magic can exploit them, invoke them, twist them, and ignore (some of) them. Doing this the right way enable them to do lot of things, including force (or trick, or convince, etc) powerful entities to act as they wish.

A really really good practitioner (or a really ballsy one) can get away with A LOT, but he or she must be careful. Because there are a lot of rules.
Not everybody plays by the same ones.

Cursitor Doom seems.... bland. Hopefully he doesn't hang around the plot too much longer. Even disregarding my issues with casually Mastering people, he's just kind of generic and lacking in personality traits that would make him interesting to read about.

If magical connections were two-way, I'm pretty sure an experienced wizard would know about that and install some kind of protection. Like say... putting some protective wards around the vial in case the other guy tries sending magic through it. I mean, in the real world we've got all sorts of tools and guidelines for handling potentially dangerous, toxic, explosive, or radioactive materials. Do you really think Cursitor Doom is going to take some bits of some guy's soul and use it for magic without doing the wizard equivilent of sticking it in a ziplock bag first? Or put some wards on it to act like the magical equivalent of a lead box, or a surge protector, or a firewall, or whatever else he needs?

Second, even if the connection does go in two-directions that doesn't put both sides of the connection on equal footing. For example, the connection could be like a magical pair of jumper cables hooked to a magical car battery and clipped onto some part of Grayven's body that doesn't want jumper cables hooked up to it. Considering it's his soul that's making the connection... those jumper cables might as well be hooked up to Grayven's left eyeball right now.

"Aha! You may have a dagger pointed directly into my eye, but that just puts your hand within headbutting range! I bet you didn't think of that, did you? Oh, wait... you totally did. Rats, I was kind of expecting being totally at the mercy of someone experienced at putting people at their mercy would give me more of an advantage than it actually does."
Remember the precautions Constantine took when they tracked Klarion back in Atlantis? That was with a cat and to prevent Klarion from noticing, Doom has part of an Apokoliptian Conquest Soul and Grayven didn't even realize.

Grayven's not gonna blow up Doom with his NG powers, it doesn't seem to be where the story is headed, but the connection is still a risky business when grabbing hold of a souped up soul.

Hence, in a nutshell, why John Constantine is still alive.

Isn't it because his asshole brother needs him to commit suicide so he can revive himself?

Also he comes from a family of reality warpers. While is his twin brother who supposely got all the power John apparently got the brains since he always finds how to use what little power he has.

So, Are Grayven and Paul both on Earth-16? Because I thought Paul's Earth was Earth-16, but Grayven recently said the world they were in was Earth-16.
