The worst case scenario is that without Anakin's intervention in orbit the planet falls, both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan die because they are distracted by trying to protect Anakin, and then Anakin is captured and brought to Sideous.

Yes, letting things take their course means Qui-Gon dies, but this is unfortunately about the bigger picture.

Seriously though, sometimes the Force knows what it's doing. Qui-Gon is a sacrificial gambit by the Light for an essential win. The Dark wants him gone because Anakin is much more likely to fall with Qui-Gon dead, but for the Light, the alternatives are worse, and Qui-Gon's death doesn't mean the game is up. It's only just beginning.
