The Urban Poor were about to riot from war-weariness, when Balthazar gained their trust that he had their interests in mind, wasn't going to spend their lives needlessly or engage in contests of pride, etc.

The same trust may not be extended toward Brynn, so with the Mass Levy active (and possibly after; there may be further narrative effects for the Ymaryn internal divide in having a popular figure like Balthazar) Balthazar has positive effects on stability.

...

Concerning Math Reform: it costs -1 Authority dice immediately, so we won't be able to do it at least until after the war ends--and even then, we have to think hard on whether that Authority dice would be first better used somewhere else (training up our diplomats on Build Ties, Khemetri Spy Network).
Math reform is going to be a big deal when the research system activates. Things like zero are a big deal when you start doing serious math.

Besides that, it is worth a good bit even now.

Surely if we're going to have an Admin genius hero at the helm soon, it only makes sense she would be *the* person of choice to lead the push administrative reforms like numerals and calendar?

In which case, perhaps Balthazar should do everything he can to give her a firm foundation of diplomatic and internal stability, rather than initiating reforms himself.

Brynn is "only" an admin hero, but I agree that having her lead the reforms would be most effective. The people trust Balthazar, so let him continue to provide the internal stability necessary in times of war.

It also costs a good bit (3 Treasury on top of the -1 Authority Dice and 2 Influence locked in). We need to spend at least 1 Treasury on Support Subordinate post-war, and there are probably other costs in demobilization.

So, I think we should spend the first decade using the Authority Dice on diplo/intrigue, paying off loans and amassing the needed Treasury, and then start Math Reform in the second decade.

However, the Collapse serves as an important enough event that a new calendar that begins at the end of the collapse would be warranted and allow the reform to occur thousands of years ahead of schedule. Ah, my mistake

e: I wonder what it would take to build an education system that reliably brings those with hero/genius skills to the attention of the National gov't, even if they don't come from nobility. Probably not possible at this tech level given we fail at it today, but maybe something something Ymaryn magic.
Alternatively, obsessing over individual skill has fucked us in the past, so such a system may be actively bad…

That will probably deepen inequality, even if these individuals don't come from nobility or upper class upbringing.

Meritocracy is a bad word. One should not mix greek and latin roots like that. A proper word that means the same thing would be "aristocracy" or "rule by the best".

News from the Front:

Dafydd and his army of almost a million men fall upon Western Wall like a crashing wave. All resistance is swept before him. Only months into the renewed offensive, enemy soldiers are fleeing and deserting rather than face him in battle.

By the end of the campaign season, all of Western Wall is in your hand. All of it, old and new.

[+1 Influence, +20 Prestige]

Touch The Cow, Do It Now, Thunder Plateau

Things continue to go surprisingly well. The Mythaldyst infrastructure is being rebuilt.

Train Thunder Plateau Administrators, Elective
Needed: 31+. Rolled: 24. Failure.

Work continues in electing and training new administrators.

[3/7]

Survey Thunder Plateau
Needed: ???. Rolled: 82. ???

A number of old deposits were rediscovered. As well as something new. It appears to be an ore of lead that is useful making yellow dye.

[Thunder Plateau only costs -1.7 income to reintegrate, not more]

Diplomatic Contact, Pulska
Needed: ???. Rolled: 6. Failure.

Diplomats were dispatched, and were never heard from again. They are presumed to have died on the journey.

Diplomatic Contact, Highlanders
Needed: ???. Rolled: 19. Failure.

Your diplomats are turned away. Still, they weren't beheaded like the last bunch were. That's something, right?

Melkut Ymaryn Restored!: The Eternal Empire has proven that epithet accurate. Brought low 30 years ago by a Great Khan, that most ancient of kingdoms has restored its old borders, and more! The world stands in awe at the recovery. The Giant is Back. Only their recent submission to Khemet mars their glorious return to ascendancy. (+1 Authority, +7 Prestige)

This turn doesn't seem so bad, sure we failed on the Diplo but that's fine. We got the important stuff down and the extra Authorities are very nice.

The wars are over at last. At least for now.

And combined with our initial 60 Prestige, and we're up to... 88. Literally one behind Khem's 89.

Hopefully we'll have some time to rebuild in peace instead of Khem demanding another submission or it's war.

Yeah, Authority on Demob. Sure there might be more rewarding things to spend it on for success, but I doubt there's anything to spend it on that has as grave consequences for failure.

I'm betting it's Chromium. A principle Chromium ore is crocoite, lead chromate, which appears as a yellow mineral, used for yellow dyes. And given what it allows for, well, that would certainly be an incredible result. Stainless Steel is incredible! (As long as it isn't covered by water. It ain't so stainless then.)

The Ymarin are back on the playground, now it's time to conquer the Arabian peninsula and terraform all that arid land into TREES!!!

Congratulations, everyone! We won the war; now it's up to us to win the peace.

We may or may not get the option to cut loose the Rus. Whatever we choose will have to result in an agreeable settlement, lest we be stabbed in the North during a Great Powers War--future or imminent.

We're once again knocking on the Khemetri's door, with 88 to their 89 Prestige. They may or may not come back into conflict.

We need to demobilize promptly and without issue, and prepare to deal with the internal faction divide.

And in all this, let us not forget that Amber Road, too, will soon be coming under threat. We will need to spare a thought for our present and future ally in the North. With the Mass Levy ended, now is the time to forgive their loan and give thought to a deeper alliance.

Their pyramids. We should summon massive flocks of crows to fly the pyramids all the way to Valleyhome as a giant middle finger.

Or ships if that doesn't work for some reason.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

In the Advisory Council, that's where.
