And the Sands of Time Pile Ever Higher
"I have chosen not to break with tradition, and to end this book on The Collapse and Restoration of the Melkut Ymaryn with the death of Balthazar The Humble. However, I feel this is a decision that requires some defense. The practice of dividing time and history into regnal eras is one with little to recommend it after all. Kings are as much shaped by their circumstances as they shape their circumstances, and kings are explicitly those individuals given as much power to shape their circumstances as society can manage.

"This book must end somewhere, yet the reverberations of the Collapse and of the Restoration are felt to this day. The Rus Province was eventually annexed through diplomacy. The Victorious Alliance of Amber Road was nurtured into both a great power of vast strength and an extremely close alliance which has existed in personal union with the Kingdom of the People on three separate occasions despite both being elective monarchies with very different concerns. Perhaps most importantly, the New Kingdom has yet to recede into itself as the Old Kingdom did, maintaining diplomatic ties with the rest of the world.

"History is not so clean as to have clear beginnings and endings. The roots of the Collapse go back thousands of years before it happened, and the effects of the Restoration are still playing themselves out. While the reforms which give Brynn The Reformer her epithet were only possible thanks to the Collapse, they deserve to be given their own separate treatment. While Byrnn completed the reintegration of Thunder Mountain, Balthazar's last order before dying was to begin it. As such, I have elected to end here, when the final order goes out, rather than when it has finished being carried out."

YOU WIN!
VICTORY!

We successfully navigated the Collapse and prevented the splintering of the Melkut Ymaryn! Hurray!

I do hope this is a metaphorical end rather than an actual end to the quest.

And I do hope we manage to actually integrate the Amber Road via nominating their Melek heir at some point. The Double Crown REBORN!

The Kingdom opened up diplomatically and we managed to curb the Peacocks. All in all, I'd call it a good ending. Or a good enough ending if you want to be critical.

Whatever the case, It was a good ride and I'm glad to have managed to join in before the end.

Thanks to the Sacred Warding effort, deaf priests has traveled across the world and spread the Ymaryn Sign Language, and a whole bunch of new languages sprouted from YSL. Thanks to the diplomatic effort of the Kingdom, the rights of Deaf people has advanced across the world.

"So this is Valleyhome," Darfyd said, looking out from a forested hill.

"Only a few hundred years into the future," Yenyna said.

There were so much changes. Gone were the smokestacks and the pollution, but a sea of glasses and gardens on every rooptop as far as the eyes could see. There were glass skyscrappers intermixed with wooden skyscrappers in the city skylines. Then were little mixture of everything at the bottom as if the People can't decide what kind of places they want to live in. Single housing stood next to towering apartment buildings, while businesses and shops fit in and between residential neighborhoods. There were streetcars and bicycles, cars and vans as well huge numbers of pedestrians.

"I see that the People are still the same despite the changes," Darfyd said.

"Yes and no. The People are even less militant and even less prone to violence," Yenyna said. "It had been a consistent trend from my era to yours and to the future. But we are also always adapting and changing, even if some elements remain the same."

"So this is my labor, my work, part of it anyway. I am glad I helped bought a prosperous future. I only wish that you were in my position instead."

"I don't know if I agree, Dragon General. There can sometime be too much strength. Will there be the necessary change if I destroy the Great Khan? Will there would be a need to change if I went and conquer all the rebels in one fell stroke? I am well aware of lives lost, hero, and if I am in your shoe, I would have done just that. "

Then two figures sat on a bench and watched. The People, oblivious to the legendary figures, went around their business in the temple.

I am disappointed that we hadn't even begun a megaproject or much less start researching anything.

But I supposed we defeated every challenge that comes our way, so the quest has to end at some point.
