Transposition, or: Ship Happens [Worm/Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio | Arpeggio of Blue Steel]

Evil cliffhanger is evil.

Really felt like we were in Taylor's (well distributed) head this chapter, though. The mild social anxiety with her friends' texts was well done. I also like the bit of fluff with Danny. We can see Taylor maturing, knowing the outcome that she wants (a healthy relationship with her father), knowing what she has to do to make that happen (initiate hard conversations and spend quality time), and made it happen.

Would a fleet of ships that fly, have shields, and fire particle beams be able to attack Ziz in orbit??? *ponders*

...well, ain't that some shit.

Also, @ensou? I am beyond amazed and in awe of the research you've put into this. Thank you for your hard work!

Also: I just got caught up with the Blue Steel manga and holy shit
Duuuuuude! Where were you when I had just finished reading the update and needed someone to geek over the whole thing with? :p

The manga's really, really awesome, and the crazy part is, there's not one point that I personally can point at and go, "yup, that's why this is awesome", it's the complete package.

This was an awesome update. The effort put into fleshing out the details were readily apparent and impressive. More than that though, I loved the character interaction. The playful awkwardness with Victoria, the tenuous extensions of trust with Danny and the sheer intensity and anxiety that surrounded Lisa's rebirth. It's all pretty awesome coupled with Taylor's awareness of her need for grounding.

I like how Taylor approached the brain transplant operation as carefully as possible to avoid any ship of Theseus repercussions - no entertaining of any off the cuff "I'll just start replacing parts of her brain" nonsense whatsoever. IMO, ethically speaking there's orders of magnitude difference between giving someone a full-body prosthetic and fiddling with the continuity of their consciousness, and I kinda totally agree with how Taylor approached this entire situation. These last few chapters have been really interesting, and really well done.

Also:

I shook my head. "Not really. Armsmaster might. Maybe. But Tinker-tech just doesn't make any sense. I… I don't trust it. If I can't understand how it works then it shouldn't be used. Not for something like this."

Really, really smart move. Clarktech is not to be trusted!

This chapter was nice. While nothing much actually happened, it was kinda like slowly inching a door open. Looking very much forward to see what is behind it when fully opened.

A week later.

Amy stared at her sister's phone, a flash of jealousy flickering through her before she squashed it flat and looked up at Victoria.

"You were flirting."

"What? No I wasn't!"

"Crystal?" Amy looked over at her cousin on the couch, who stood up and walked over to where Victoria and Amy stood, looking over the healer's shoulder at the phone screen, before reaching around and scrolling a bit.

"…You were totally flirting."

Victoria spluttered. "N-NO I WASN'T!!"

"I never took you for one to be in denial, Vicky~" Crystal sing-songed as she went back to the couch.

"I'm not!!"

Amy gave Victoria a flat look while Crystal hummed. "Mmm-hm. Somebody's got a cruuuush~"

Victora reached out and snatched the phone away from her sister's hands, her face burning red. "Screw you guys."

And with that final parting statement she spun on her heel and stalked off, muttering under her breath.

Amy noted suspiciously that her sister hadn't denied it.
Rest in peace and scotch Datcord. :V

and was building a catatonic girl a new body.
...how sure are you that she's catatonic? The level of brain activity going on wasn't mentioned much, I though there might be a "I have no mouth and I must scream" situation there without Taylor even noticing.

how unstable isotopes of uranium (236, for example) would break down into fission products and neutrons, the neutrons binding to other uranium atoms and making them unstable, thus creating a chain reaction.
236 doesn't work that way. Generally fissionable isotopes like that are supposed to have odd numbered atomic weights. U235 is the one classically used in fission plants (mined Uranium is a mix of U238 and U235, mostly U238), though breeder reactors will often use either U233 (made from thorium) or Pu239 (made from U238) for that purpose.

Taylor has been feeding Lisa a sedative, and has also been keeping an eye on her brain activity to make sure that she's unconscious. This was mentioned in both this chapter and Sonata 2.3.

Humans —physically— are complex things.
You know exactly how to hook people back into the story with a single sentence.
'building a body for a girl that I had to save by ripping her brain and spine out'
"... What?"
"What?"
Now… now all that was left was waiting for her to wake up.

And then at eight thirty-two, she did.
AND you don't screw around. I like that you didn't wait an entire arc to give us this resolution. Now to see if what wakes up is, indeed, Tattletale. Or at least all of her.
