In this case, it seems like the chance for a strike against still Chu Yan exists, even though the time limit for a good withdrawal makes me anxious, the QM seems to want his showdown under his parameters. So, let's do it. His comments raised so many death flags, I kinda wanna see how it ends.

Honestly, yes.

The prudent thing would be to retreat, now that we have gotten those we could save to flee, thereby accomplishing, to a limited extent, our goals.

.... but it's just too dramatic not to attack. Dueling your father's killer in the blazing mansion of those who planned his death? Our elite hawks, some of whom are our family's longtime retainers facing off against the Swallows? Bringing Lu Lingqi to the Ge Manor, where she can confront Maiyu, who significantly brought this about due to her hubris?

It is glorious, and I see no more satisfying way we can resolve the Liang Qi/Bandit/Ge Clan plotline. We already did what we could to save the civilians, and the bulk of our army is safe, while cavalry becomes inefficient in the upcoming siege. How can I not vote for this?

"Hah...haha." He chuckles, raising a hand to the side of his face. "I am well aware of that. Go, do what you must! However, should an opportunity arise to slay or capture Chu Yan, do not hesitate. This may be a remarkable opportunity to turn the tides of this war."
Not to completely dismiss the pace of the main army, but I don't think it's as big of a risk as we might think. If Yu Zhong was afraid of that he would have advised us to return as fast as possible and not dally. Hell, he would have outright argued, he's done so in the past. Instead he encouraged us to look for an opportunity to get Chu Yan.

Well, Chu Yan is currently isolated from the main band and otherwise engaged. He genuinely has had no intention or preparation to fight us here, so we don't have to worry about him having some clever trap in store for us. I guarantee that will not be the case for our next fight with him.

Go Big or Go home and with Yi zhongs advice and the narrative time to take the risk.

We should both be equal right now since Chu Yan didnt expect us here and hes been fighting the Ge for awhile.

Also Ge shouldnt have any reason to suspect that we arent here to help them. They might try take us down after chu yan but we can just tke care of them ourselves after that if we cant bring them back to the city.

Whatever happens, Chu Yan will never be as vulnerable as he is right now. Given the fact, that he didn't expect us and is busy within the compound, we still have the advantage of him fighting on two fronts. Even if we dismount for close combat inside the house, our men are more than enough to carry the day. Personal vengeance (father + false flag) and the bigger picture (killing off an enemy commander who foolishly exposed himself) are both on our side. I see no reason not to attack and finish him off.

Yeah any risk is somethimg that will always exist when facing a competent enemy so we have to risk things either way and this is both a good and narratively awesome chance to take him down.

Damn it, while I would rather fall back, that would only Chu Yan time to prepare. Right now he is not ready to fight us, this is our best shot. Its risky, but thats war.

Reminder that Chu Yan also has access to Break the Cage (and what that trait entails)...
Break the Cage is exclusive for Liang Shu and Chu Yan.
A bird never truly loses his freedom. At moments of desperation or severe disadvantage, your willpower and sheer determination can help you make a stand against the odds.
When at a disadvantage against a superior foe, provides a +1d20 bonus to a roll that follows a failure.
Care should be exercised if we go after him. He may be caught off-guard, but he could still be able to beat us (or at least prevent us from finishing him off).

Oh come on can't we just get beyond thunderdome?

So… Birdiedome?

God damn it you son of a bitch ya got me, I'm in.

Birdiedome.

Well… If he's still busy railing up the Ge with his birds, I am sure he'll appreciate our reinforcements pushing him harder into the burning Ge wall.

If that's how you saw my comment then whatever. The biggest issue is people automatically thinking we're gonna lose when its mainly based on rolls 🤷
This is not quite correct and forgoes the part that determines how high a roll is needed, therefore a major simplification. Lu Bu with bad or average rolls is still a tough fight. A common bandit with bad or average rolls is absolute cannon fodder. To ignore this part is apparently your issue. It is not all rolls, else planning, preparing and strengthening our troops and officers would have been meaningless. The opposite has been proven to be the case again and again during the entire tenure of this quest.

Didn't some guys flee to him and inform him of our coming? I mean, the element of surprise seems to be lost, thanks to that. His situation remains the same, being in the compound, but he will be prepared. Biggest issue is really how the Ge will react. That Chu Yan will have his troops prepare seems a certainty, but will the Ge join in, stay safe or turn will be an important factor. Like Yu Zhong said, with their crimes, death is certain. I just hope Shu does not make more enemies for this fight than necessary.

Chu Yan is the end boss for our current arc, if he is not a hard fight, I would be extremely surprised.

BTW, if the fight is Chu Yan vs Shu and Lingqi vs Maiyu...that would be so cool. Bad for us, but still an awesome showdown.

[X] You will end this here, and you will end this now. Chu Yan must die. Take your vengeance, appease your father's spirit, and decapitate the head of the bandit army. Finish off Chu Yan, once and for all, with your own hands.

Death or glory!

[X] It is regrettable, but you cannot take the risk. You attempted what you came here to do, you can do no more today. You will allow Chu Yan to slip out of your grasp, and retreat back to your army. You have no choice but to deal with him another time.

We're likely going to have a better shot at Chu Yan once Yu Zhong springs his plan into action (and, since our enemies seem to be unaware of that plan or the fact that we've realized what some of their plans are, it is likely to be a success, but not a certainty). Let's withdraw and make sure whatever civilians we've managed to rescue are safe.

People choosing to befriend Ge Dejun really salts my apples, but besides that this quest has been really good.

Anyways, I say we just kill them all.
