I swear you put up some gifs about Lu Bu realising just why his daughter wanted to join Liang's campaign so badly, I just can't find them...
I think I know what you mean, but it wasn't me who posted them

In before nat 100 on Liang Shu speech rollAnyway probably time to start deciding who to play next given Lu Bu will catch up to Liang Shu soon.
I adore this idea. My only comment would be to allow some kind of relationship. Maybe at a decreased rate or something, but one of my favorite parts of this quest is forging bonds. If we made a Custom Officer, I'd love to see the relationship grow between everyone. This system is not yet implemented! I want to leave this open to discussion first. Good idea, bad idea? Thoughts or concerns? Let me know what you think!
First pass, I think the 80 cap is too high unless merit points are not handed out much. Then again average stat is 45 so you would either have a savant in one or two areas or a weak well rounded without additional point investment.

Lets see here . . . ElleonXan is owed for three Omakes, copypastaanon is owed for two Omakes, SwordsmanofS and Dovahsith are owed for one Omake each, and Athanor is owed for the Total War Bio.
And Leingod is owed for several exposition posts (I'm not sure how many. Could someone compile a list, please?).- Good discussion about the time period, the novel, or other Three Kingdoms related media
Is his name supposed to be Billy or Jimmy?
Would the person of merit have to be on Liang Shu's side or could you seed an enemy with them to create more of a challenge and balance the ones on our side?Firstly, apologies that this isn't the real update - been very busy this week and haven't had much time to write, plus I'm sorting out a few mechanical tweaks in the background. Thanks for your patience.
As some of you may be aware, I have been thinking for some time about offering rewards for omakes, fan work and discussion in this thread. However, as I have discussed on prior occasions, I do not wish to simply grant roll bonuses - I don't think they fit this particular Quest well and they are very difficult to balance. Instead, I have come up with another idea that will hopefully allow readers to make a small mark on the Quest rather than just giving some small roll bonus. This idea is Merit Points.
Merit Points can be earned a number of ways, and will be kept track of in a separate post. The following is a by-no-means complete list of ways to be rewarded with Merit Points.
- Making any kind of Omake or fan work
- Good discussion about the story, or recent choices
- Good discussion about the time period, the novel, or other Three Kingdoms related media
- Making and submitting a plan, Even if it doesn't win the vote
- Making a valid Write In, Even if it doesn't win the vote
- Making me laugh
- Me giving out points on a drunken whim (possibly easiest way to earn points)
"But Gaz?" I hear you ask, Billy, "What can I do with these wonderful Merit Points?"
Well, Jimmy, I'll tell you. You can spend Merit Points on making your very own, shiny officer or retainer to join the game! Yep! More and more retainers will be needed as Liang Shu's faction expands - so wouldn't it be cool to fill those ranks with men and women you guys created?
These Merit Point fuelled individuals are called Persons of Merit. They will be placed in their own "pool" separate from other free officers (both historical and OCs) and can be recruited for a very small cost. The pool will already have a handful of Persons of Merit placed in there by me of my creation, just so it's not entirely empty to begin with. Persons of Merit, once recruited, act like any other Retainer! However, they do not have a Satisfaction stat which means they functionally have perfect loyalty that does not need to be managed. This does also mean you cannot forge a Bond with them, however! Persons of Merit grow in stats like any other, and you can choose whatever you wish for them to focus on. I likely will not use Persons of Merit in large roles in the story, expect them as background characters at best! You are, however, encouraged to write your own stories about them - which is a way to earn even more Merit Points! Yay! Also be warned, Persons of Merit are NOT immune to defeat, injury and death, so please don't get overly attached to one of your creation.
By spending 3 Merit Points, you can make a Person of Merit! As well as deciding their name, birthyear, background and some other details, you also gain 225 Attribute Points to spend on your Person of Merit's stats - LEA, WAR, INT, GOV and CHA. There are a few limitations to this, you cannot have a stat of less than 15 or greater than 80.
This may feel a bit restricted, but fear not! By using more Merit Points on your creation, you can buy Perks! You are advised to save up Merit Points to spend on the Perks you wish, as once a Person of Merit is submitted, you cannot spend any more Merit Points on them. There is, however, no limit at all to how many Persons of Merit a single reader can create!
Perks are as follows -
Talented (Costs 5 MP) - Adds an additional 25 Attribute Points. Can be taken up to 5 times.
Exceptional (Costs 10 MP) - Select one stat - the maximum limit for that stat is raised to 85. Can be taken multiple times.
Quick Learner (Costs 5 MP) - Select one stat. That stat will grow at a faster rate. Can be taken multiple times.
Eager (Costs 5 MP) - The Person of Merit will immediately join Liang Shu's faction, for free, at the next reasonable opportunity in the story.
Equipped (Costs 2 MP) - Select a Quality I Weapon (of any type), Armour, Clotihng or Mount for your Person of Merit to begin with. Can be taken multiple times.
To make a Person of Merit, tag me and fill out the following form -
Name:
Appearance: (Optional, picture can be added but not needed, a brief description is more than fine)
Birthdate:
Stats:
LEA:
WAR:
INT:
GOV:
CHA:
Equipment: (Only if Equipped Perk was taken)
Backstory/Brief Blurb - (Can be as long or short as you like, just a sentence or two is enough. Subject to approval if it gets a bit kooky.)
Stat Growth - (As ever, the more you pick, the less focused the growth)
Perks Used -
And that's it! Have fun creating your own characters, and remember there is no limit to just how many you create, provided you have enough Merit!

In that case you could always get a basic outline of a character and the general feel for them from the author in question. I don't want to oversaturate the story with fanmade creations, but having a standing with one or two would be neat. I think it comes down to whether people would trust you to uphold their OC's basic personality. Given that I'm now of the mind to make my own in the near future, I at least certainly wouldn't mind it.I'd like that too, but my only worry is not being able to write someone else's OC accurately ^^ Custom officers can certainly gain bonds with each other, and any other retainer too! I could allow Liang Shu to gain bonds with them, but again I'm concerned about not being able to portray the characters correctly.
Question. Are they allowed to be of significant note and imprtance to the world at large? For example, spending an additional 15 MP for the character to be of Lu Bu or Dong Zhuo's lineagae. I assume if so, it would scale directly with just how important their relation to such a person would be. For example, making someone Lu Bu's secondborn son would have to be a rather taxing cost to it I assume.Oh THAT is an awesome idea. Yeah, cool, I can add a Perk that lets you add your character to any other faction/lord.

Was more for people we created in another faction. If we wanted to make some truly terrifying opposition in the future or something, and gave them some connections to others in the process.I'm a little concerned about doing that, especially if they are related to other lords but still serving Liang Shu. Would rather them be original rather than of pre-existing lineages

Would it be possible to take a variation of Eager that causes the character to join during a specific year in the future instead of at the next opportunity?
With that number of Attribute Points, you're looking at a decent but unremarkable straight 60 officer, or with a little trading around you can get someone with an 80-60-60-50-50 statline. That's someone who we might make a fair amount of use. Compared to almost all our retainers except for Yu Zhong, Xu Tong, and to a lesser degree Xu Jian, this would be a very competitive retainer who will feature prominently in their area of expertise. Basically equivalent in utility to Ce Xiang or Lu Lingqi.
It may be worth toning down the AP that characters have to start.
