Time of the Gods: Into the Amber Age

Would our minor successes be enough to make "accept first deal, we put a shrine in his village and he tells us about the crone" reasonable enough for 2 years of no attacks to seem fair then? I'm really not sure how much successes are worth here... Also, you mentioned something about marriage involving sharing our abilities? Does that mean "tell each other what we can do", "help each other out with abilities", "discounts on each other's abilities", or something else?
If I'm too specific or mechanical when it comes to negotiation encounters, it takes away some of the ambiguity that makes it an interesting encounter. You don't go to a negotiating table with someone knowing exactly how far you can push, and for major things like this a wrong deal can be insulting rather than prompting haggling. If you're close, deals will get haggled down to an acceptable degree. If you're too giving, you lose out. If you're too demanding, you upset them.

The sharing of abilities is mostly a willingness to use your strengths for your partner's gain as well as receiving theirs for your own gain. It's the second classification, and you can manage a greater synergy of abilities that you would otherwise not be able to use yourself. Each of you can still pursue your own goals and spend your DE for yourself, but you can freely request the other's powers to help you with future issues (1 turn in advance, actual defense against threats is automatic).
Will growing dread provide bonii to vehemence?
Vehemence only comes about from especially powerful emotion. Simply looming over people with the threat of 'I will get you, someday, somewhere,' only has power for a short time when some people may snap from the paranoia, before the threat seems less serious or dangerous, and it slips out of immediate focus. Basically, you might get some Vehemence the turn you claim 'you shall arrive soooon' *spooky hands*, but like the boy who cried wolf, the reaction is less urgent every time you make the claim.

Can we ask about the Crone/his current situation/allies/enemies before agreeing to help marriage request, with another sunburn to finalize the deal knowing what were getting into?

-[] Acquiesce to Saiga's first condition (not voting for this is implicit refusal of the condition, can be difficult and will likely upset Saiga).
-[] Acquiesce to Saiga's second condition (binds Gaerig and Saiga together in marriage, much easier to refuse).
-[] Demand more in exchange for granted requests.
--[] That you would spare only those who would have an attractive young man and young woman of their close blood serve you well each year.
--[] That he builds you a shrine in his village, equal in grandeur to his own before you would marry him.

You know, we could leverage the demand we had going.
Because this means theres a limited number of slots for those who would be spared our wrath, and that we can break that agreement whenever said youths fail to meet our standards.

How's that?
Since it explicitly picks youths, they can't have priests who master the service over years to perfection. There will be slip ups whenever the young ones take over.

And then there will be punishment~

Your negotiation comes all at once. If you want knowledge on the Crone, but don't like how it sounds should you marry Saiga, the best you can do is renege on that part of the deal.

Actually, could we offer more than Saiga demanded? Like offer to allow him to build a shrine in our village.

Cause he's likely to ask for one anyway.

In that case, if anyone makes a plan that accepts the first but not second demand, and asks for information and a shrine, I'll vote for it (on phone atm). Oh, also PoM this is unrelated to this turn but do you think you can include stuff like Spirit of the Sea enhancing our abilities in the description? Like "improves water/sea based elemental abilities" added to the skill boosts? It'd be nice to know the full deal (aside from stuff like compulsions and blind spots which of course would be hidden)

That would cover a potentially massive number of minor effects for some abilities, especially if I had to start covering synergistic abilities that activate from having several particular traits at once. It's a lot simpler for me to leave those things unwritten.

Look guys, you don't just jump at the first and best husbando you find. Who knows if you get buyers remorse later on when it turns out he spends more time polishing his spear than he does attending us? I know it'll be possible to "divorce" Saiga later on, but do we really want to go through all that hassle?

There are more fish in the ocean, and in our case that phrase could even prove literal!

I agree about the second proposal, but I'll poi t out that we've just reached the point that Gaerig thinks that serving us is a blessing, not that our people do :p
We think it's a reward, therefore it's a reward. Now we just have to work to make sure everyone else recognizes that it is, in fact, a good thing.

Ahh that makes sense; I was underestimating how many such boosts there were; I guess depending on how many there are to keep track of, could you put any active ones in our character sheet? Unless I'm still underestimating them that shouldn't be many with the trait cap, and those would be relevant for when we need to decide what if any traits to get rid of (for example, I know for a fact that when we hit trait cap someonewill propose getting rid of spirit of the Sea because its "just skill points" :p)

Hmm, if we marry him it'd also establish courting, marriage customs, particularly amongst the influential(once Saiga gets the wedding his followers and ours will rise in prominence naturally as a result of blessings and not getting fucked).

So with my additional demands, the husband's family must see to the well being of the wife's comforts and build her a new home. He may must bring gifts to court the lady.

Survival rolled 10 vs 15
Saiga cannot find you in the sea despite being in Influence range (embarrassing); approaches your Holy Place instead!
This shit is hilarious. Basically Gaerig just wandered through his village drowning people and he just can't FIND her. Spoopy
You suddenly whip the sea into a mad frenzy, going into tantrums and fury that the mortals would dare draw near the sphere, which is yours and yours alone! Even those upon the shore are badly battered or dead, and those who dared ride their boats out to see it are best not mentioning.
...holy shit our Roils got swole.

I have to wonder what the mortal narrative looks like.
1) Saiga's worshippers amongst the outcasts were driven out by the wrath of the sea
2) They pled to their guardian spirit Saiga for deliverance.
3) Saiga goes over, sees a sexy piece of ass and taps that. Enthusiastically.
4) Gaerig appears to be somewhat miffed, tells him not to come back without presents.
5) Saiga spends a year in his shrine, probably making the present.
6) Gaerig is mad! Where is her present?! She spirits through their fishermen and starts drowning them liberally.
7) Another year passes and a piece of the moon appears from the sea. Saiga's LATE! He took so damned long to get her gift that she went shopping on her own for one shiny one!
8) Those who come to see Gaerig's gift were punished by the wrathful sea for Saiga's delay. People drown all over, and despite Saiga's best efforts, even on his own ground, he cannot find her while people die.
9) Saiga shows up with his gift at last at her home. It's not as awesome as what Gaerig had found, but it suffices. The sea calms.

I think the main issue is that Gaerig is a powerful oracle, fair explorer, elemental wrath dealer and seductress, but we have no artisan to decorate our shrines, no warrior to protect us when guile fails.

Saiga meanwhile appears to be a skilled bonecarver and stabby thing user. He meets both the needs.
Also that. Mother Earth and Mother Sea goddesses have a tendency to marry on their terms. It's not exclusive. Everyone ploughs the earth/waves.

I think we could just apply some common sense. Most of the traits and affinities are fairly obvious in what they buff.

That said for our traits, Spirit of the Sea is probably the best drop at the moment if we had to drop something. We get most of the effects already built into Water elemental affinities, while half the skills(Fishing) aren't going to be used.

Ah, that's fair. I suppose I can note whether or not a given trait specifically grants actions (not skill-granted) or improves actions.

That is part of the reason I track Legends of Gaerig. It's a countdown for various interactions before I put up bonus content relating to the thing in question, rewriting them as a sort of epic or grant narrative. The more interaction you guys go for, the more interludes and bonuses I write!
lso that. Mother Earth and Mother Sea goddesses have a tendency to marry on their terms. It's not exclusive. Everyone ploughs the earth/waves.
Considering the power typically assigned these figures, they're usually the ones doing the ploughing of everybody else.

Page 273 of the thread

MGTOW : People, don't marry the crazy.

Alphakisser : Come on, she is perfect for us. We are a Faith Innovation/Hunter awoken hero and she is probably a Fear Sea/Moon elemental spirit. Imagine all the demi-spirits/monster hybrids we could spawn into existence! We could end up with the Orphan of Kos's expy!

MGTOW : What r u doing?

Abyss Wanderer : I like the marriage thing, but what can we do to prevent Gaerig from simply continue killing our worshippers? I'm not sure divorce exist so soon in history.

MGTOW : People, don't marry the crazy.

Bits : If divine marriage is a thing, I suppose divine divorce too, @_Spiritovermatter? There is even a rhyme.

MGTOW : Stahp.

GM Spiritovermatter : Yes, should things not work out the way you intend to, then you will be able to split this union. It will mainly be political, break this marriage as you would an alliance.

Heidi Veryday : @_MGTOW You should stop spamming. And the idea is not that stupid, it would be a pain to take down that spirit, so better marry her and have her become our ally.

MGTOW : If the girl is such a pain in the ass that don't have any idea to make her stop, you should not try to marry her!! She is not a keeper, she will just try to suck all our DE away while ruining our Faith rating by drowning our people because she is a Fear spirit and it is what she does, that capricious trait or whatever she has will only add on that.

Alphakisser : Come on MGTOW, you're just fearmongering. Imagine all the profits with all the crazy moon monsters we will reap. We should have started as a Fear spirit anyway. It will be fun!

MGTOW : What's the worst is that she will divorce after she castrated our economy. She wil cry crocodile tears about "how we do nothing to help here" and how we are "patriarchist sexist asshole" when she is the one ruining everything. She will tell everyone we are prehistoric Zeus and cheated on her with that Crone she knows nothing about and our worshippers will be too scared of her sea of bullshit to tell anything against her.

Bits : That could happen?

GM Spiritovermatter : ......

[X] Plan No Husbando (yet)
[X] Acquiesce to Saiga's first condition (not voting for this is implicit refusal of the condition, can be difficult and will likely upset Saiga).
[X] Give something else instead of either condition (can upset Saiga regardless of what is offered if it doesn't include easing up on his fishers).
-[X] We will bless some of his people to make up for this year, as soon as we have a shrine in his village
[X] Demand more in exchange for granted requests.
-[X] A shrine to us in his village
-[X] Information about the island, especially any nearby villages and spirits; we need to know more before we make such a commitment.

I figure if we're going to spend a turn blessing instead of destroying his people we might as well use it to make the deal more likely

If we want to go for A&F we should probably ask for sacrifices. Maybe the old and the injured, to make it palatable.

Or set a condition that the sea is ours and any man we lure, will belong to us to do as we wish.

Or set it so that we can sacrifice the two youths we asked for. Blood for the Sea God! Skulls for the Moon Throne!

-[] ...On the condition that he becomes the wife.

Will not serve anyone, if marrying him binds us to the old bitch, then the crone needs to die first.

Also if were gonna ask for sacrifices they have to get something in return.

Edit: plan changed to better reflect the nature of the GaerigXSaiga relationship.

Edit: plan so as to vote for something that might actually win, and is better than the alternative.
