[X] Ask him about the song. It is beautiful, even in its simplicity. You're curious about the musical traditions of the Emerald Seas.

The thing about Bao Qian undercutting competitors is just par for the course. It's also not particularly damaging for two reasons:
1- Bao Qian will not be here indefinitely, is not setting up a permanent business that may send representatives to do the work later, and he can't possibly take all of the jobs for these ruined-recovering areas of Emerald Seas. Barons in need of finance will still have jobs, and will soon be getting a rather large increase in work what with the war.

2- networked connections of a Bao scion to a Liege who spends their finances to hire problem solvers for a practically endless process of reclamation and building . . . honestly so long as the liege continues to pay for work to be done any prosperity for the liege can be expected to benefit the hired barons as well. Trickle Down economics doesn't work because you can easily cut individuals out of the system. However, if the Barons continue to be hired into the system (as opposed to an endless stream of "Bao Qian's" taking all available jobs in a circuit which cuts them out in perpetuity) then it'll be net benefit in the long term for them. IF Bao Qian utilizes these connections for wealth flow at some point (likely).

What I'm saying is that Bao Qian's behavior would only be an issue if:
there were a lot of students doing similar things in the same region Bao Qian is doing it
the Baronies are teetering on disaster and are completely reliant on taking these specific jobs for these few years
it's expected that jobs like these will likely run out in the near future

I find it unlikely that Bao Qian would network with a region that is that close to collapse. Unless perhaps he's trying to poach some talents from the collapse? I could see a Bao doing that at some point in history. Perhaps it's even a contemporary practice. I think that practice would be rather frowned upon by Cai Shenhua though, so if it's common they've been keeping it a secret from her. Or it's a practice done on holdings that seem to be severely underperforming or otherwise are not accomplishing the goal of recovery/reclamation? I could see Cai Shenhua accepting the cannibalizing of stagnant regions in the name of progress.

We only recently got a Hui lore dump. Music now should be a good balance.

[x] Follow up regarding the Hui, you're a little curious to hear Bao Qian's thoughts on the recent history of the Emerald Seas.

Even if we got the snooty family tree as our major loot, we still acquired a nice collection of music, including good stuff that requires shen to properly play, since the last time we touched on this subject with him. I think it would be entirely valid and potentially useful to try and learn more about musical traditions, now that we have stuff we can go look at afterwards with what we learn in mind.

I feel that Ling Qi is way more interested in music than some dead people.

Don't feel too bad Ling Qi. I mean to be honest that was pretty rude of him. Especially since he said this not a minute earlier:

Even if his parents are legitimately important and very busy holy hell was that rude.

The language choice around his sort of not actually an apology doesn't help either. Emphasis mine:

Honestly this interlude has actually made me like Bao Qiuan a bit less

[Edit: and I liked him a fair bit before]. His casual talk of how he's using his wealth to undercut the local baron's children when talking to Ling Qi the baroness and former streetrat didn't do him any favours even before we got to that part.
Very true. Even if her mother is a stay at home while his parents are business people. Her mother is building a noble household from the ground. Is he deliberately blunt because that's what Ling Qi supposedly wants?

Another point against him is his mother. Peaks and its allies are our enemies.

Will Ling Qi even meet his parents? His mother lives in another Duchy and his father in the other end of the duchy.

Ling Qi is too ignorant about unfair business practices to care about her fellow barons. Maybe if she ever talks to them she'd change her mind.

Ling Qi doesn't notice a lot. But Bao Qian is just an acquaintance and sometime business manager so far and shows little signs of advancing.

Bao's insights about the Hui were very mediocre so far. At least we know his knowledge about musical history is is good.
