We will have the opportunity to interact with Gan a lot more even after the expedition ends, as he is going to be entering the Inner Sect soon, but Ment Dan and Xia Lin are going to go away after it, so I'd like to focus on building some connections with them before it. That's not to say that we should just ignore GG while travelling, but for me, other two have higher priority for now.

Focus on two or three, effectively writing a scene of three characters with the rest as background, in my experience.

Or put it in a formal meeting setting, when you can safely shuffle people aside and not worry about them.
