[X] Zhengui who shared some of her combat roles. (Increase group combat synergy)

Xia Lin is making it clear that she wants to be there on a stricter 'combat role', and as such the most important thing she is asking is to be aware of combat capabilities of Ling Qi, rather than be aware of the social details. I think we should respect her wishes there.
Yeah. And arguably the same is true if we want to get to know her better - talk to her about her interests!

Sucks to be her then, a bodyguard of a diplomat, is also a diplomat.
She needs to know when and where to not do anything that might look even slightly like it might become threatening anywhere in the near future.
She needs to understand social details to avoid critical missteps.
Not saying picking Zhengui is wrong, could be great, even useful, and i doubt not going for Hanyi will doom us or anything, just pointing that there is a reason to stick the "strictly combat" cultivator through the social wringer.

She... already knows all that she needs to know? Like, the diplomatic training of the secret services is not the same diplomatic training of the president. A bodyguard of a diplomat isn't in fact a diplomat as much as is in a situation where they have to show they are a bodyguard.

She is well aware of the thing she needs to know not to mess up here, and talking about Hanyi isn't going to give her any specific details either.

Does she?
She kept reaching for her Halberd, that is a twitch that is not going to be helpfull.
Ling Qi and Hanyi are unlikely to be like the diplomats she has experience with (if any).
I'm not saying we must go for social here, but it is a potentially useful route to take, and the one i am more worried of.

Focus on combat with her now that we know how to talk to her a bit. Hopefully we get a chance to focus on the social side with the Meng guy.

[X] Hanyi, whose nature was a key to the mission. (Increase group social cohesion)

I think this is going to be most helpful in the long-term narrative sense.

As others have said, until she is trained out of reflexively twitching for her halberd every time she sees a spirit she's a diplomatic liability even as a bodyguard. Once she's to that point of basic diplomatic competence we can move back to combat things.

Hmm, narrative is kind of king for me. It's not really clear how a social focus on Hanyi really ties into the current arc, though. It's been conspicuously absent heretofore, despite multiple opportunities for Ling Qi to even just think about it. Which, yes, seems a little bit odd, but it's also the narrative foundation we have to work with.

Further, Xia Lin has more or less admitted to being a poor vehicle for social ambitions in the context of the mission. I think there's a good argument that in terms of building rapport with her, which was nominally the purpose of the last vote we just had, focusing on martial matters is the more sensible choice, not just practically but narratively as well. Followup opening her social guard with our weirdness, which we've just accomplished, with a finisher that's more grounded in familiar context for her.

Xia Lin's friendship will be ours! Mwahahahaha!

Yes she does. She kept going for her Halberd, but that's actually good for her role? And when we meet the actual people we need to talk to, she isn't going to be an idiot there, though she might be cautious. The ice witch isn't exactly a spirit, she is at worse like Meizhen. And, well... she responds well to Meizhen.

The vote about Hanyi is also definitely not about teaching her diplomacy, it's about social group cohesion. It is definitely useful, but she kind of told us her priorities, and I think it's good for Ling Qi to show she respects her?

I'm not sold on Hanyi being relevant at all, tbh. The way the icy girl responded showed she prioritized Ling Qi over Hanyi, so it seems to me it's less about Hanyi/Zeqing and more about Ling Qi's own lineage + being bound to a ice spirit. Basically, it's the combination I think, and Hanyi alone wouldn't be important enough.

I want to see our giant doofy son/brother (pick one and stick with it, dammit LQ) bond with the srsface warrior over being a tank.

No, it is not, she needs to be able to not act like she is about to stab someone when not about to stab someone.
She might be, we don't know.
Meizhen is imperial, ice witch is not, there is no telling how Xia Lin will react to her if she is not cured of her twitchiness, or how the people we are going to meet will react to her.

I wanna brag about our very strong son.

Also, if this is the kind of mission that needs a bodyguard, will FenFen be coming? Or does she need to be a full green before she can start doing offical clan things?
