Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Xuan Shi let out a huff of dry laughter. "The Living Isle's brood is the mightiest and most fecund shoals, but others swim in distant seas. On the coast of distant Kem in the north, and far to the west beyond the land's end, where the Great Maelstrom churns. Those more kin to thy brother once walked amongst the lands beyond the Golden Fields as well, though none now know their disposition."
Hey some indications of what was beyond Golden Fields! Interesting. The Great Maelstrom sounds like the most interesting thing though, positionally things are kind of weird with Kem being north and all but it kind of sounds like a wall or eternal storm of sea aligned Qi that you can't pass through and probably guards the passage to the Forge Americas equivalent if I had to make a wild guess.

"No," Xuan Shi replied. It was surprisingly curt.

Ling Qi winced. "I apologize for my presumption. I didn't mean to offend. Are- Do they…" she stumbled on her words. Ling Qi cursed internally, she'd gone and made a mistake again.

"Miss Ling did not offend. I do not know their faces, so there is no pain in absence," Xuan Shi replied evenly. "This one is grateful for the attention given by the honored Admirals."
Huh. Curious.

You get more and more interesting as time goes by.

Xuan Shi chuckled, but it still sounded a little forced. "A tempting offer, but in that at least, this one has recently encountered some good fortune, Miss Ling."

"Oh?" Ling Qi asked. She hadn't sensed anything different at all. "When did that happen?"

"Just after our escape," Xuan Shi looked pleased. "In my meditations, a Spirit of the Liminal approached and wished to make a pact. It is temporary yet, but this one is hopeful."

"Huh, funny, didn't notice anybody around besides that jerk," Sixiang murmured blearily.

Well, neither of them had been in great condition, Ling Qi supposed. "Congratulations," she said earnestly. "I suppose I'll just have to find another way to help."
Oh god it's the jerk isn't it?

Eh, possibly not? Dunno. We don't actually know so.

Ling Qingge didn't reply at first. "I hope that you do, but your interactions with that young man gave me doubt."

"Xuan Shi?" Ling Qi asked in confusion. They were friendly enough, but he was…

"Ling Qi, even I could see that he held an interest in you," her Mother chided. "Are you truly saying that you were not making use of that?"

Ling Qi gave her a horrified look. Her Mother examined Ling Qi's face, and then slowly lowered her face into her hands.
Hahahahahahahahahhahaah wow.

Fucking fantastic scene right here. Great job!

(Great chapter, great worldbuilding, but right now my reaction is dominated with shouting at these two hopeless heterosexuals.)
Like I said on discord, they're basically the "They were both Bottoms" problem. *sigh*

Goddamit lol.

The guy was strung along by Cai before a bit, I'd prefer not to do that to him ourselves.

Talking about stuff has consistently worked better than ignoring it in Yrs' quests.

Just as an aside, I admire Ling Qi's new strat to avoid having people think she, as an unmarried young baroness, is courting when she hangs out with guys is "Lawl guess I'll just chill will ducal scions, none of them are gonna marry me."
Ling Qi: MY PERFECT STRAT, RUINED!

Yeah and like. Ling Qi is decidedly not entirely hopeless for this, and Six is here to give some kind of advice. She's hopeless at noticing things, but she can actually string words together without giving offence with a good bit of reliability.

Honestly, at this point, I feel like Ling Qi should just date a pillow with some abs painted on. An actual interpersonal relationship seems like too much of a stretch for the girl. Baby steps for now.

It's not even that she didn't notice, it's just that Xuan Shi doesn't fit in the box that she has labeled "Predatory Men" and the only reason she didn't just dismiss this being pointed out (Like she has literally every time it came up) was literally her mother telling her.

"Ling Qi please tell me that you have observed propriety," her mother cut her off with a pleading voice.

"Please do not tell me my daughter is a gold digger."

"Oh no, she's just an idiot."

I love it. And although worrying for her this could be good for Qingge, showing how even if Ling Qi is a cultivator she still has shortcomings she can help with.

Yeah pretty much. She had one track for what romance was and then it just got upended.

Regardless of who the thread wants Qi to marry, I really think Qi should address the scary elephant in the room instead of hoping it quietly goes away. The only risk here is Qi freaking out a bit, and she is entirely safe with him.

@yrsillar Is dream jerk something Ling Qi will bring to Xuan Shi's attention? It feels like if everyone in thread can make the connection, Ling Qi most certainly should as well, and probably discuss it.

Seems pretty straightforward vote-wise, drama now vs drama later. I'd prefer we do it now instead of having LQ second guess every past and future interaction with Xuan Shi for ulterior motives from him and exploitative behavior from her.

Amazing update. I think we're being unfair to Xuan shi by leading him on like this. It's about time we start to seriously consider and debate about whether Xuan Shi is a viable marriage partner for Ling Qi or not. Rather, this has been considered lots of times, but now LQ herself needs to consider it in character, and our votes may just influence or directly determine her decision. We have to confront this issue now. ...And we have to shoo away nightmare spirit if it turns out it is haunting Xuan Shi.

Ling Qi: "How do I talk to my mother now about my plan to build up a gigantic harem? ...Naah, Ill divert the topic and tell her about how I turned down Meizhen."

Do you think Quingge couldgive LQ advice on how to gently turn down romnce/proposals? It does look like she will break a lot of hearts at this rate.

I don't think Ling Qi should confront Xuan Shi about this. However I don't think she should try to continue as before. Ling Qi needs to talk more about this with her friends before anything and she shouldn't try to rush into anything without knowing more about Xuan Shi and what her personal feelings are.

(I have thought that they would be good together tho...)
