The obvious answer is to go ask Shenhua to make a living dress for our baby sis. Not only will it grow up with her, so it'll always fit, and she'll never have to get another dress, ever. Like her big sis! And flying goes early too!
Besides, it worked so well with CRX, right ?? what could possibly go wrong ??? :V
 
Got no real stake in this, keep in mind this is for a soon-to-be 5 year old kid and some of the votes are pretty ???.

If we were angling for something strategic then having a nerd/production cultivator in-house would be easier to get reasonable outcomes on (as opposed to another crazy adventurer type which requires some pretty divine favor). Still, way to early for that.

Atm going with the pretty pictures book. Who knows, maybe in a few months Biyu will know more about the region than LQ (or at least we do).

I'm not sure if I can really call this better than the last one though?

I'll be honest here; brainwash early, brainwash often. I do want our clan to become a musical moon mystery cult clan, and if you gets them while theys young, it stick better.
 
Nullvoid I hear what yer sayin but counterpoint, if we get her the shoes the clan theme would be branching into theater more variety for the clan no peer pressure to be a carbon copy of her big sis plus she gets to do what she loves which is currently be a little hellion while bring energy in a positive way and not setting her path on OUR Way like with CRX.
I see a lot of positives with the dancing shoes and not a lot of negatives.

The problem with that is, the more divergent she is from LQ, the harder it will be for her to progress.

The Ling clan isn't exactly an old clan with a a large library. The corner stone arts of the clan will almost certainly be passed from LQ to the others in her clan. It's either that or work with mostly sub par arts.


Really though. This isn't a modern society. There isn't so much social mobility that you can basically just do whatever you want, the family you are birthed in will heavily affect your options in life.

Comparing House Ling with House Cao at this point? One has just been created, its matriarch is Early Green/Early Bronze with a whole other cultivator at Early Red/Nothing; the other is the Ducal house for the Emerald Seas, its elder is a White and it has many cultivators, including CRX who is already stronger than our strongest (and I don't see that gap being bridged any time soon). I think we need to grow our strength before diversifying to shore up our weaknesses as a clan. The flute has the advantage of being part of family history, what with Qi have learned the basics from Qingge herself, so it helps in bonding. It's fine if she does pick up other arts, but I don't think we should be encouraging her to do the Loose Cultivator thing and have to piece her Way by herself. Leave that for when she reaches Green/Bronze.
 
The CRX example was a bit extreme I admit I suppose Im just a bit wary of her modeling after us.
Correct me if Im wrong but we also have movement arts of our own and a little fairy that can literally dance in our head so I think were covered with that area if we want to go down that route.
 
I mean, our way is pretty dependent on spirit patronage. Pretty specific spirit patronage, to be exact. If the moon doesn't find Biyu interesting enough, our main cultivation art route is closed. Our late yellow build is no where near coherent, and relies on having gone through a tribulation to be able to understand music qi, provided by a helpful Yuki Onna.

Our understanding of darkness also relies on loneliness and privation that Biyu will straight up never experience.

Like, we lack the relatively safe cheats older clans have, and with the Cai tablet we have a sufficiently broad base for Biyu to springboard in pretty much any direction. It's arguably safer for her to follow her own path, which she'll be better at, than try to follow our path which hasn't really been properly trail blazed. Most clans either are older, and thus have tested and corrected routes to follow, or new and the founder's path is the only one because arts are expensive.

With the Cai arts, we're in a good position to let Biyu follow her strengths, particularly when we have good reason to suspect they wont be the same as our strengths in cultivation.

You are making a lot of assumption. A Yuki Onna, for instance, isn't strictly required. Likewise, there is more than one facet to darkness.
And there have been entire clans devoted to the moon that lasted for thousands of years.

And we've flat out been promised that the future won't be easy, and frankly, it's unlikely the fam will remain completely untouched by that.

Anyway, The fact of the matter is, LQ has been unreasonably fortuitous in terms of patronage and connections. It's highly unlikely Biyu will have anywhere near the same amount of luck. The cai arts are literally a smattering of thing, and they aren't necessarily of the best quality either.

But we're still years away from any of this mattering.
